it didnt get closed down, not untill at least 2002. and, give Chris a Break. He was memorializing his roommate. We are fortunate to see the song in this form. Temple of the Dog, nor Pearl Jam didnt eally exist
This is some awesome footage, from a historical perspective. Chris is clearly having some pitch problems..and Eddie's vocals are sadly missing, of course...but it's really neat to see what I assume was the first performance of this song. Which is just an epic song by any yardstick! Thanks so much for posting this! Great stuff!
@Blueledbetter1 hahahahaha... i just realized that i posted that comment on the wrong vid...it was supposed to be on a cover..Chris Cornell is my fav!
I mean i respect el corazon, because of the history there, but honestly its a dive. I saw UFO there a while ago, maybe it was just that night, but the sound system sounded horrible, and it was over packed, it there was a fire everyone is pretty much dead. And they oversell shows.
that's a good point, an old vhs tends to tweak the sound, especially if it's been sitting in the sun... props to him singing this song and screwing up and not caring ! he rocks either way! besides, as I said.. I saw him live at OC Fairgrounds in Çosta Mesa CA with a different band playing backup and he rocked!
Nirvana played one of their best gigs ever here less than 2 weeks later (and one of their first with davey g). and i think pearl jam played their first show a week or so after that. I'm pissed beyond belief this place got closed down.
It did not get closed down. Just a new name. It's now El Corazon. I was there last September and it gives you chills just to be in the same room where grunge began, not to mention the one and only PJ
well its a fact that when u are bending over u can hit higher notes. and the chorus has a very high pitched part. he still seemed to have some trouble with it though.
or maybe he didnt raise it cause he was drunk. haha ya never know ;)
Pearl Jam (as Mookie Blaylock) played their first gig at the same venue about 3 weeks prior to this one. Eddie was very much a part of TOTD by this point, but didn't feature in this show at all, not sure why.
No eddie was in seattle by that point because he the mookie demo had been recorded and he says on the 10/6/91 hollywood bootleg that it had been one year and a day since he went to seattle
Thats Matt Cameron singing back up. He does the same on Reach Down from this show. Eddie hadn't arrived in Seattle at this point. Chris Cornell had control of his voice from hte mid 80's. He was classical trained, and a chorister.
Eddie arrived in Seattle on Wednesday, October 17, 1990.
As Mookie Blaylock they played their first gig on October 22. And yes, Eddie was already introduced to the TOTD project by this point, but he was not part of it.
this is a Temple concert they only did one or a couple concerts for tha albim. its chris up front singing eddies in tha back he usually stands in tha back or outta sight when chris is singing.
its temple with just chris no eddie, i think its fair to say that chris handt quite control of his voice at this stage! and also the recording isnt good! great vid tho
I can't see it very well, but I think I only see one person singing - probably Eddie. This is a duet and it looks like Eddie is singing Chris's part here too, which is out of his range. That is the big pitch problem... I think this is just a live performance by Pearl Jam and not Temple... right?
Wow, this brings back serious memories. I played at the Offramp with my band Love Brother Nine a few times in 91-92'a this is great stuff , where did you get this video?
wiwif - the vocals sound ropey on this vid purely because of the quality of the sound. Listen to Slaves and Bulldozers from Badmotorfinger and take it from me that he used to do that exactly the same live. Truly a great live voice. Watch the live Outshined and Jesus Christ pose videos and you'll see what I mean.
I HAVE heard some great vocal performances from this guy... but if u listen to 2:48+ in this video u can hear what I mean: WAY off pitch, and he's pitchy in way too many of his live performances for my liking. He seriously lacks concistency. I still worship him tho ;)
this is pure gold!!!!!!!!!!

I bet all those people in the crowd didn't imagine this would go down as one of the best songs of the 90's!

toys, yes, but the mad season album wasn't released till 1995, so it was a surprise to hear him play the intro at this show.

well, I heard him at the OC Fair and it was an awesome show ! incredible vocals, guitar playing, etc... but this show sucked !

its the sound quality of the vid. damn thing is 20 years old and probably ripped off a VHS in the first place.

I love this song, but Chris singing live is always strange... I have never found a video with him singing like the cd! NEVER!
domrafones 2 years ago
i would rather they sound different live.its the whole point isnt it?
jendgtrydeoosmkwq 2 years ago 3
his live version of birth ritual on the movie "singles" is pretty close to the studio version
goblinob 2 years ago
@domrafones i had, and for the strange ones, they're probably greater than the studio ones, he always loves to hit higher on live.

mad season and temple of the dog were the best grunge sideprojects!

wow, awesome, I also picked up on that on the river melody right away. Mad Planet wasn't formed until 4 + years after this. Pretty amazing stuff !

Closed down? Didn't it just change names a couple times?
"Graceland" for a while, now it's "El Corazon"
A few remodels inside but it's still pretty much a solid seattle concert venue.
