and now we have had the "enquiery" or did i mean white-wash? the port is not fit for purpose by its design! narrowing the entrance will do NOTHING ..a breakwater is what is needed to to stop the swell DUH its obvious,Brandon you want tourism(dead trade) try adding a ferry it may help, it's obvious!Be our MP and do something instead of dreaming of olympic tourists that won't come here
its no longer about politics or image..it's about survival of the town, the sinking standard of living(started before the bankers recession)...my gauntlet is thrown down to take a tour with me and i will show you where the votes grow or vanish ...a warts and all tour not the polished biased tv image
infact its so healthy that even the seafront arcades are closing down! the market place has less and less each year,we dont need giant TV's on the beach and market place spouting propaganda...it feels like another GREAT yarmouth GREAT oppertunity lost! i would gladly meet with you and take you on a tour of the real yarmouth that many don't see and discuss the state and fate of this once thriving gem on the east coast before it becomes what its getting known as( un-postable) you may be shocked
this is a vital link that would bring trade not just from holland but the whole of north ern and central europe,at the same time easing the stress on the dreaded A14(if A47 was dualled, which was part of the port deal according to locals) but just ask the dockers if the town/port is thriving and they will laugh at the question...poverty breeds unrest, ill health and crime and the town is sick if it were a person it would be in intensive care
i realise you were not part of the team at the time but those who were knew that the town was waiting for that ferry and associated trade and many have lost a lot of money as their hopes were dashed,i have watched the town slowly die and it's sad to see,i have no agenda but like many average to poorer people in the area are getting tired of our hopes dashed, you know the town is in trouble when industry is not replaced(birds eye, omnipac, harris foods...endless list of lost industry)
a few jobs at the at the grain terminal is not really consolation, how much did the town lose with no ferry this year?millions with ferry travel at a premium this year with air travel in chaos, guest houses, eateries, taxis and buses and rail all lost out,the town is continually reminded "its a tourist resort" with few and penniless tourists...wake up we need all year round income not 5 piddling weeks of the year...get the ferry running and expand the trade coming into the town
great harbour, absolutely useless,no trade,no ferry and the short sightedness of themanagement lost out on trade through the air travel probs this year, how many containers?NONE!!how many ferries NONE but millions spent on another white elephant How many LOCAL jobs created? NONE well done yet another waste of money for no local benefit! the town is dieing and they waste money.the cranes are to be shipped out as they never lifted any containers, thanks for destroying 2 beaches to line few pockets
@mudhogbiker I was not part of the team who put the deal together all those years ago. From my experience, since May and as an observer in the few years before that, I can say that I know we have a number of companies now in the area with jobs because we have the Harbour, not that the harbour is yet the full success we would all like to see and as the economy picks up hopefully that will develop. News of the new company locating there, along with the new grain terminal is a good sign and start.
