It's a manual or an automatic transmission ? Or better said, could you equip your car with this adaptive cruise control in combination with a manual transmission, or just with an automatic one? Thanks.
Airline pilots do far less with their hands and feet at cruising speed, yet no aircraft designer would cancel the autopilot because it risks putting the pilots asleep. It's just a matter of doing your duty as a pilot ... and as a driver
its very good but with this application in to the car... you get SLEEP EASY... you are not in action when you drive... so you can easy sleep... this you can you when you are normal and for 10-15 minutes to be relax you foots only this...
do you know of any kits to upgrade vehicles without? when i was young, early 80's, my family would travel from indiana to florida to visit family for the holidays. i had lots of time to think on that 15 hour trip. i thought about developing this type of system due to the constant on and off again cruise control. cruise control was a high end feature then in our new road cruiser of a cadi. loved that car. i could sleep flat on backseat. anyway, should have done this but glad to see it out now.
Hey guys...I found the best written literature on....... MyCarMyChoice (dot) com..... under tech funda it says how does adaptive cruise control actually work..and trust me it explains with the same conviction....
@erik4727 shit mate,in a long journey 50 km straight road you get bored to death just to drive straight and only on 120 km/h,just relax and let the CC do its job.
First, great system, and definitely a stepping stone to much safer, efficient driving. However, I'm a little uncomfortable with the road discipline (or lack) that this system exhibits, and what would happen if everyone was using this.
For example, when the car first goes into the slow (right) lane, it is still going 140kph until it get close enough to the car in front. The camera does not look up as this is happening, but the Audi overtakes the car in the centre lane while this is happening.
Hmm, I see one problem: If your on the right or middle lane, you're not allowed to drive faster than a cars to your left!
So if you change lane to the right (eg. to make room for a faster car behind you) and there is a car on it in a big distance, the ACC can make you go faster than the cars to your left. It can even make you overtake a car to your left. It should acquire cars to your left, too. Great technology anyway.
Thank you for this highly informative video! Can you please tell me what happens if traffic is very bad and all traffic comes to a complete stop (not suddenly, but just ends up stopping)? Does the car remain stopped, do you have to put your foot on the brake during the stop at all, or how does that work (at least with Audi)? Thank you!
Hi grate Demonstration, if the car in front slammed its brakes on hard would the adaptive cruise control do the same or would you have to brake hard? thanks.
Excellent demo! Are you able to utilize conventional (non-radar) cruise control? I had an Infiniti that allowed you to use adaptive, or regular CC depending on your preference. The biggest reason for this for me is in case the radar has problems (rain, driving into the sun, or a radar malfunction) or when driving around turns, in which case ACC usually slows you down due to the turn itself (cosine angle effect.) Regardless, looks like a nice system and kudos for a great demo!
Good demo. Wondering if the sensors are affected by rain and snow. If you have wet snow falling does the car tell you "no" because of the snow. Also does it work with in joint with traction control or ESP or ABS?
@DannyHubbz thx. It works perfectly save in snow and ice, as the system is connected to the ESP and ESP. In fact, I recently had an ESP failure, and the cruise control was shut down automatically
there is a law (in germany) that the car behind you has to choose a distance that is save in respect to the speed they (two cars) driving. so no. wouldn't make sense to crash into the car in front of you just because the idiot behind you can't drive his car adequate.
@TheHappyKamper You have to remember, fi the car behind you crashes into you because you had to do an emergency brake maneuver, he was to close to you. Braking to slow, in case something happens, is not an option
this is a major step in achieving fully autonomous automobiles. the next car i get i will be sure it has adaptive cruise control because it is complete genius
Question: When u start it. Can you start the car without the key in the ignition? Like having the smart key in your pocket and pushing the button in the middle.
It also works in (not too narrow) turns. That means that the system must be "looking" sideways when the car makes a turn. It probably gets a hint from the position of the wheels
mostly you use the adaptive cruis control on european highways or especially the autobahn. so there are no narrow curves, would be extream deadly at speeds up to 250 kph. and if there are narrow curves then there is a speed limit. and if you watched the video you know that the system works with seconds instead of distances. so at low speed the distance is closer than at higher speeds. so the target doesn't get out of sight.
What if there was a car tailgating you and another one drives onto your lane. Would the system brake and possibly cause the rear car to crash into yours?
I never wanted to find out what would happen if you let the system take care of situation all by itself. In emergencies I step on the brakes instinctively, but the system always beats me to it. So it works fine.
What happens if you go up a steep hill - will it lose the radar lock on the car in front of you and therefore accelerate and the car in front which has now encountered this hill may well be slowing down. Zusammen-stoss perhaps ?
The radar does not seem to pick-up objects that are stationary (e.g. the through of a down-hill strech). It will just lose the lock. Sounds a bit academic, because in terrain that is that hilly, I wouldn't be using the ACC
does the cruise control work if you put your max speed at 20 km ph? i mean can you use the adaptive cruise control in traffic congestion? and is the cruisecontrol capable to bring the car to a complete stop while holding your foot on the gas pedal?
Actually, it nowhere says that these values represent a certain time rather than a certain distance, but is makes sense, as the distance increases with speed, without ACC setting having been changed.
Value 1 (the smallest distance) keeps you at about 1-2 seconds from the car in front., so it's not possible (for safety reasons, no doubt) to "hug its tail" with this system.
No, it's is not sensitive to external radar waves.
What's funny though is that from time to time I see fast riders hit the brakes when the pass my car, for no apparent reason. Probably because they have a radar detector installed, and the radar of the ACC plays havoc with it ...
