  • luv it!!

  • great job, love the photos!! for half a century our worries lies all about: the waist!!!!! kkkkkkkkkk Woman, the most amazing animal ever!!!

  • Remember you all the dead people because of broken ribs. :/ It's not just a rumor, it's fact.

  • @Ophelide And I don't say every corsets are dangerous, but some are.

  • It's amazing of how fashion has come so far. I'm wantin 2 get a corset just 2 help get me 2 my ideal figure

  • and for those who say that corsets did nothing, well u're wrong, there are several documentaries on corsets and the damaged they did, of course they were waayy tight, like the ones of 1900's and before, they made stomaches to be absurdly small, like 2 inch diameter, and ribs to bend to the insides, and yes it all depends on how hard u go with the corset, but back in the day it was beautifull to have a 40 cm waist, so they had serious stomach problems. don't go crazy on them

  • weirdly 50's corsets were way tighter than 20-30's corsets, awesome how everything changes and comes back

  • As the girl below me says

I wear a chemise corset. It helps with posture and is warm in the winter. I don't need the shape but it makes you move in away. Your back straight ppl take notice.

  • that's true I'm 18 years old and I started to wear corsets at age 16 it is so comfortable and sexy I can't go a day without wearing one because i feel naked. Corsets are just beautiful and very feminine. So people it is not going to kill you c'mon wear one first before you talk crap.

  • I love this video & corsets !!!

  • People need to start learning their facts before they post. Pregnancy causes organs to move more than corsets ever did. No women ever died from tightlacing and there is plenty of modern medical evidence to support this. It's bad attitudes like yours that prevent women from enjoying this beautiful and COMFORTABLE garment today.

  • hey do you know a similar site with these video, i need it for an exam praesentation....

  • tp provent from looking like a starved dinosour, they started wearing hoop skirts.

  • At least I can breathe, though.

  • Very wonderful comments made here by the readers.

I honestly cannot find anything ''ugly'' about yesteryear's fashions. They may be ''weird'' in one respect in that ladies were compelled by the standards of the day to wear too many layers of undergarments. It should be rememberd, however, that this was done in the interest of lady like modesty.

  • The main rason was for a fashiionable shape. In the 1900's you diid not have to wear lots of layers to be modest but you had to in order to be fashionable. In the 1860's not everbody wore the wide dresses held out by a crinoline. Women without the hoop was just as modest.

  • corset have been the cause of death of some ladies during 1900s.. small waist is a big deal for them that time.. too tight corsets leads to vital organs deformation causing some death..

  • what reputable source did you get that information from?

Ive done extensive research and worn a corset for lengthy periods before and, from what i understand, child birth is more likely to kill a woman that a corset.

  • only the s shaped corsets which is pictures in this video. the other corset isn't so bad it doesn't do any damage. they realised after that the s shape corset caused major deformity's

  • in reality its how tight and severe u go with the lacing and the severity of the actual corset

  • Women at the time even had their bottom ribs removed surgically.

This may not seem too extreme, but remember that this was before anti-biootics!!

  • i think that was rare to none

probably closer to urban legend than a common reality

what is how ever unkomonly known is that women had more electric cars than not at that time

  • Actually that's a ridiculous rumor. No women have EVER done this. The rumor even persists today regarding people like Cher. Trust me, it's wrong, and very silly to believe it.

  • Gosh!...but you've done your homework!!

  • Maybe it's cause I'm getting old, but somehow, I find yesteryear's fashions to be more beautiful, charming, and sexier than today's fashions.

    Very nice video.

  • I think I can safely say I'm still young and I find it is not *more* beautiful and charming, it simply *is* these things at all - what is worn today is ugly. Espescially womans clothing seems to either immitate men's (doesn't go well with our figure) or be designed to be only sex-y (hollow and also ugly).

  • You have a great point.

  • You can still look nice today if you shop at places like Cato's. You can find nice stuff online too.

  • I've been obsessed with these sort of fashions because they are the embodiment of elegance and poise, even if one's body isn't the 'right' body type. Women back then, fat or skinny looked gorgeous in these fashions. At times I wish we could revert back to these times instead of clothes being made for one body type and being too focused on sex.

But by all means, the fascination with this sort of style spans all age groups. It's not just you and your age.

  • I heard that some of the underwear was really hot and uncomfortable.

  • @kissiebooashes Ah ha! But these fashions *were* about sex. The woman with the ideal body type of the time was more likely to attract a mate, so most women strove to achieve that ideal. It's a bit different today, but we're still trying to attract the opposite sex - just not always for a marriage proposal! In fact, women of the past played just as much to men's fantasies as they do today (an issue that really should be resolved - women are still objectified tremendously).

  • @1400deadwood I think Its more beautiful too. Wish it would come back in style.

  • what is the name of the piano song? i love it!

  • Debussy's Arabesque No 1 followed by his Arabesque 2. You can download them free at the Piano Society website.

  • thank you!

  • how are you , great job

  • very good movie!

  • Well I never! The young ladies in the later years let their midriffs run wild!

  • 1920-30 stuff is the best.....very better of the actual modern fashion!!!

  • I like the late 1910's the best followed by the 1920's and 1930's. I think the 1920's and 1930's were a lot better for comfort. I couldn't have worn the S-shaped corsets of the 1900's or the tight 1950's girdles. You can dress nice today without the tight underwear.

  • LOL at those bras that made womens breasts look like bullets! ^_^

  • Yes, what IS the name of the 1st piece of music? Very beautiful.

Interesting subject. I read someplace that steel "boned" corsets went by the wayside because the steel/iron was needed for warships in WWI.

  • I don't know the name but the scale part at the beginning it is one of the default ringers on my cell phone.

  • The music is Debussy's Arabesque no1 followed by no2. Apparently when the US government asked women to stop wearing corsets in 1917 it resulted in an amount of steel being saved that was the equivalent to that needed to construct two battleships.

  • I must know the name of the piece playing. It was absolutely lovely, and perfectly captured that beauty, grace and elegance of those golden fashion years.

  • Reminds me of a cartoon I saw recently...some modern women were looking at a photo from 1900 and remarking how beautiful and graceful ladies were back then. The next panel shows what was going through the women's heads when the photo was taken...one woman is thinking about how her corset was crushing her...one woman was thinking about how tight her pointed toe shoes were...you get the idea...^_^

  • All these eras were beautiful but I couldn't have worn the 1900's S-shaped corset because that was painful to shape your body like that or the girdles. I think the the late 1910's, the 1920's, and the 1930's were the best in comfort and fashion.

  • Really enjoyed this! Well put together!

  • It's cool to see how the designs change through the many era's.

  • I see my corset from wikimedia commons. ;-)

  • stop talking with big words, it makes my head hurt

  • You did a wonderful job with this video. I have been gathering pics for my own corset video from the wikimedia commons, but I like this video a lot more than what I had in mind. Great job and very informative.
