@tessalia87 Your image must be in Grayscale Mode, so you need to convert it to RGB. With your black & white photo open, go under the top menu - Image-Mode and select RGB. Now your Hue Saturation should be available.
Mama this is the best tutorial on this subject i have seen, and I have seen quite a few. Keep up the great work, why dont you write a book on your techniques.you are better than Kelby in my opinion.
@jazg41 Oh thanks! My son-in-law has bugged me for over 5 years to write a book but I feel that Video Tutorials are a more complete demonstration and a more efficient vehicle for teaching the masses. I can show a lot more in a video in a shorter amount of time than if I had to write about it and do screen captures for every step. As voice recognition technology improves, I hope to have running text captions below the videos so that deaf people could also learn from them.
I honestly think the way this woman explains things is absolutely awful. She's getting off on her own voice and not at all showing in precise good detail what's going on.
At the bottom of the Layers palette is a black/white circle, click that to add a Hue/Saturation Adjustment layer. Dial in each color there adding one at a time by clicking the "Colorize" option in the HueSat dialog box. Then Ctrl I to invert the mask of the Adjustment Layers. It's in the tutorial plus you can go to my shanzcan dot com site and download the PDF with written instructions.
I disagree. Nora looks absolutely stunning here! I don't even recognize her until you said so... And even when you did, I thought you might have had another daughter we don't know about... Beautiful, artsy and very very creative.
Thank you! Nora was about 20 years old here. She has always been extremely photogenic, the camera lover her, she is a chameleon and has always been a great poser, which helps her to pose and photograph others. She is now 29 and still photogenic. Don't know if you saw the November 2009 Cover of Professional Photographer Magazine, but she WAS the cover!
Yep! you have told me before in a previous comment, and I checked it out and she was extremely amazing, what a milestone! Why do I feel a sense of pride for your daughter... lol.
Awe thanks...me too! I'm blessed to have two wonderful daughters, both artists! Nora, the photographer and Shayna is a sculptress and draws really well, too. Have a son, Zac, too! He's still finding himself...he writes and raps! Ha!
He's actually pretty good with the free flow stuff, I could never talk so fast an make poetic observations on the fly like he does....but that's a very hard industry to make a living in. That's one reason he still lives with us, I guess! Ha.
hahah! Well it's always good to know you will never be short of work stories at the table! But seriously, the combined effort between Nora and you achieve is astonishing. (*Warning, lifestory*) Would like to make my hobby in Photography a profession, but stuck living my parents dreams instead, and stuck in New Zealand far from hope. You have a very lucky family, I envy you guys!
If your dream comes true and you are successful and happy, how could parents not be happy for you. There is always opportunity. Have faith! Sometimes, it means just taking one little step at a time.
Don't mind these fools... This is a great tutorial. You do a great job, and your teachings are very educational. Thank you for keeping on posting this vids.

I'm simply stating my observation based on what I just witnessed. And no, my mind is NOT in the "gutter." It's just that I've grown up in San Francisco and this reminded me of people I saw all the time in my neighborhood... Sorry if I offended you. But you should grow a little sense of humor. Maybe the word "hooker" was inappropriate. I probably should've used "homeless." No?
I absolutely do have a sense of humor but the nature of your post would probably cause any mother to take offense. You may think hooker, homeless, but I think of haute coutur as seen in Givenchy Fashion Shows, which you probably would also think hooker or homeless. Also I may be a bit sensitive today, as I am recovering from toe surgery and on pain meds, so I will agree to let us disagree with our interpretations of this image and just hope it's the concepts of Photoshop editing that r important
This once again proves my point that we are all a product of our own environment and experiences. I personally do NOT know anything about Givenchy Fashion Shows or any fashion shows for that matter. My comment derives from my past experinces of where I've been and what I've seen with my own eyes. And you can not fault me on that. Had I been more knowledgeable in the "haute coutur" world, my comment may have been quite different. That said, I do think your tutorials are very nicely done!
Please remember, my videos are free, but you can show appreciation as payment by doing all of the following--Subscribing to my Channel, Commenting, Add to Favorites, Add Rating, Sharing and adding to your Playlists and of course, viewing the whole video! Much appreciated if you do! Thanks--spread the word!
Thanks Mama, another great tutorial for me to try out like I do all your vids....Mahalo for your time and effort on all your past and future vids...as usual you ROCK! Aloha~
You're viewing in draft mode! The video quality will be great HD when it finishes processing. Note the green bar at the top indicates it is not done! I just now uploaded, usually takes 20-30 minutes for the HD to kick in.
Thanks for the tutorial! This way of coloring B&W photos is really fun and easy . . . I've been practicing it all night long, lol.

Great video demo. I'm using CS4 but the hue/saturation is grayed out when I open a black & white photo. How do I activate the hue/saturation feature?
