Nice video. I wanst born for another two years and 364 days after you filmed this. I wish we saw more seaboard and chessie power these days. Very nice K5LA horn on the lead.
The bridge in the background as the helpers go away...is that apart of the old Western Maryland? Same as the track that crosses this line over Keystone bridge?
@1jackdk Is there any part of this line that is still active? Wonderful new sets of uploads btw, ive been watching them. Keep up the amazing string of uploads. Its great to see someone captured this era of pure epicness on the CSX.
Obviously CSX's footprint is starting to manifest itself here, but it's still GREAT to see Chessies in their original paint scheme! Great view of the WMRY viaduct as well! Driven beneath it on, I believe, US 219 which was still 2-lane last I passed here.
On the head end units 1,2,3,5,6 are SD50's, the 4th one is a GP40-2.
On the rear pushing 1st was a GP35, 2nd was a SD40-2, 3rd and 4th are SD50's. The next couple of years saw most of the GP30's and 35's and SD35's retired
@KB1NWR No. Just the 4th! Its a GP40-2. The 5th and 6th units are SD50's, as are the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Pause it at each unit, and you will see. Glad to see you know your power. LOL Thanks for watching. Jackmp294...
@1jackdk You're absolutely right, Jack. I missed one key feature on the 5th and 6th Units. They are indeed SD50's. Anyways, it's nice to see a SOLID CAT Lash-Up like that. I've favorited this video. Good stuff.
Nice - I came real close to visiting this area in a side trip when I was in Cresson a week ago. I'm hoping to include it for sure the next time I'm up. It will be interesting to see how much it has changed.
@4223037 Don't know for sure, But something is wrong! Not the first EMD that I saw do that. It keeps seems like it kept over reving for some reason. Might be some kind of fuel problem
I've seen this before in some other videos. One says this is caused by blown or failing turbo-gaskets. The pressure cannot be contained any longer beyond a certain point aaand pfoooot! There it goes up the stack... :) Again and again...
@SPTunnelMotor That would only make sense! I have another video, almost in the same place, with a Conrail SD50 shoving on the rear. Its doing the same thing, and you can hear it real well. I will see if I can edit it and put it up. Thanks for watching. Jackmp294...
@MarkieBhoy17 The horn is for the railroad crossing I'm standing at. I also think its over powered, but they did have well over 100 cars of loaded coal, at 100 tons each. The grade up to the summit at Sand Patch gets pretty steep. They will take the 4 off the back at Sand Patch tunnel, and the 6 units will be used for braking down the other side the mountain. Thanks for watching...

Or turbo "burp", EMD's use a clutched in gear for the turbo at slow RPM's, if it "catches" at high speed, this is the result.

That trailing SD40-2 has a bad turbo...poor girl. She's coughing! D:

just wondering, what happened to all these great horns? CSX just can't stand looking good, even their executive units look bad!

We drive up 219 all the time to get to Altoona. It sure doesn't look like this anymore.

@1jackdk It happens at the same time, without the throttle changing. Probably an oil leak in a cylinder.
