  • Nice video. I wanst born for another two years and 364 days after you filmed this. I wish we saw more seaboard and chessie power these days. Very nice K5LA horn on the lead.

  • 1/28/1990 huh?? I was'nt born 4 another 9 month's & 26 day's after this film was made...

  • Excellent video! 1:13 *cough* *cough*

  • nice video Jack! :-)

  • nice vieo Jack! :-)

  • What is the engine next to the last Chessie unit with the yellow and red logo? I know I've seen it before but can't make it out.

  • @carriersignal That was a Seaboard Systems SD50. Thanks for watching...

  • The bridge in the background as the helpers go away...is that apart of the old Western Maryland? Same as the track that crosses this line over Keystone bridge?

  • @Seaboard1321 Yes it is. Its a bike trail now. Thanks for watching...

  • @1jackdk Is there any part of this line that is still active? Wonderful new sets of uploads btw, ive been watching them. Keep up the amazing string of uploads. Its great to see someone captured this era of pure epicness on the CSX.

  • Or turbo "burp", EMD's use a clutched in gear for the turbo at slow RPM's, if it "catches" at high speed, this is the result.

  • That trailing SD40-2 has a bad turbo...poor girl. She's coughing! D:

  • is now CSX with light blue and dark blue paint now exsist

  • aftrer the merger is now CSX with light and dark blue paint

  • Fantastic video! Thank you for sharing!

  • Love all those Chessie SD50's! Those helpers were working hard I think a few gallons of diesel went up in the air lol

  • Obviously CSX's footprint is starting to manifest itself here, but it's still GREAT to see Chessies in their original paint scheme! Great view of the WMRY viaduct as well! Driven beneath it on, I believe, US 219 which was still 2-lane last I passed here.

  • csx number 2 in the back is saying eat this EPA

  • Super! This is how I remember railfanning. Now everything is two wide cabs and all looks the same.

  • On the head end units 1,2,3,5,6 are SD50's, the 4th one is a GP40-2.

On the rear pushing 1st was a GP35, 2nd was a SD40-2, 3rd and 4th are SD50's. The next couple of years saw most of the GP30's and 35's and SD35's retired

  • Great video! This is LONG after the merger...how often do you see pure Chessie consists into the 90's?

  • That's Chessie's K5LA is just stunning. Boy, if only they sounded that nice these days.

  • WOW!

  • What a horn! Excellent video.

  • Nice video, miss those Chessie units.

  • 10 loco's, to easy

  • thats pretty sweet its a fav.

  • hhhhmmm 219 to Altoona, thought it was 22

  • just wondering, what happened to all these great horns? CSX just can't stand looking good, even their executive units look bad!

  • We drive up 219 all the time to get to Altoona. It sure doesn't look like this anymore.

  • Okay, who doesn't know their power? The 4th; 5th; and 6th Units on the head-end look more like GP40-2's to me.

  • @KB1NWR No. Just the 4th! Its a GP40-2. The 5th and 6th units are SD50's, as are the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Pause it at each unit, and you will see. Glad to see you know your power. LOL Thanks for watching. Jackmp294...

  • @1jackdk You're absolutely right, Jack. I missed one key feature on the 5th and 6th Units. They are indeed SD50's. Anyways, it's nice to see a SOLID CAT Lash-Up like that. I've favorited this video. Good stuff.

  • lol that second helper was lookin like an alco

  • nice catch

  • Great seeing that Chessie power in action again. Fabulous video thanks for posting.

  • Nice - I came real close to visiting this area in a side trip when I was in Cresson a week ago. I'm hoping to include it for sure the next time I'm up. It will be interesting to see how much it has changed.

  • Wow listen to all those SD50s. As problematic as they were I loved those 645s pushed to their limits.

  • Great video, Jack!

  • Wow what a colorful consist of locos! Great Catch! back then.

  • GOLD MINE! Excellent stuff Jack, the sound of the helpers, and that Chessie K5LA are mindblowing!

  • wow really like that vid jack....if we had that kind of power on the NS trains in shire oaks we would have no problem moving trains lol

  • hahah this was tooking 3 days before i was born lol

  • great video great chat , and indeed great railfanin spot! thumbs up mate

  • This is the best chessie video i've seen in years.. Love your work bro.

  • Love the 1980's k5la!

  • What's causing the 2nd pusher locomotive to belch smoke like that?

  • @4223037 Don't know for sure, But something is wrong! Not the first EMD that I saw do that. It keeps seems like it kept over reving for some reason. Might be some kind of fuel problem

  • @1jackdk It happens at the same time, without the throttle changing. Probably an oil leak in a cylinder.

  • @1jackdk

I've seen this before in some other videos. One says this is caused by blown or failing turbo-gaskets. The pressure cannot be contained any longer beyond a certain point aaand pfoooot! There it goes up the stack... :) Again and again...

  • @SPTunnelMotor That would only make sense! I have another video, almost in the same place, with a Conrail SD50 shoving on the rear. Its doing the same thing, and you can hear it real well. I will see if I can edit it and put it up. Thanks for watching. Jackmp294...

  • @4223037 It could be anything from carbon build-up in the turbo to bad rings.

  • @4223037 It's hatred for the EPA?

  • @4223037 Turbo bark.

  • whats all the horning for and why does it need more then one eginge after all it uses more fuel

  • @MarkieBhoy17 The horn is for the railroad crossing I'm standing at. I also think its over powered, but they did have well over 100 cars of loaded coal, at 100 tons each. The grade up to the summit at Sand Patch gets pretty steep. They will take the 4 off the back at Sand Patch tunnel, and the 6 units will be used for braking down the other side the mountain. Thanks for watching...

  • @1jackdk true

  • @MarkieBhoy17 One engine is not capable of pulling that. It would simply slide back down hill.

  • @gt3corn SURE BUT IT WILL BE FUNNY

  • @MarkieBhoy17 I think there's actually a few vids of that happening on here. And wonderful vid you have here Jack, I love the old vintage vids.
