I think they are both good singers, but Nightwish's original style was this syren vs the guitar, and unfortunately Anette doesn't have that syren in her... her voice isn't really opera-type, unlike Tarja. So for Nightwish, in my opinion, Tarja is deffinitely the one.

I really love both Tarja and Anette but Anette is just SO different! When I hear "Dark Passion Play" I think it is awesome because Anette's voice is just WOW on that CD but compared to Nightwish's earlier songs it's really like a kiddie version of how Tarja used to sing...

Both has very very good voice. But I would rather Anette in a little bit. On Tarjas record I miss Anettes "hep! hep" and "Nemo sailing home! Nemo letting go" which Tarja doesn't used to sing. And I think Anette voice is more interesting & stronger, especially in verses. Tarjas classic voice is for me in a little bit thin when she doesn't sing hight and louder

Anette Olson's voice is weak and her vocal range is limited. We have to admit that Olson is doing her best effort to give us the very best of her; she's not trying to replace Turunen because each of them have their own style. But Tarja Turunen's majestic presence and voice on stage are simply unique. I'm not saying that Anette is bad singer, is just that she's not Nightwish type at all, she's more punk than metal. anette isn't able to sing "falsetto", so its quite difficult for her to catch the high notes.. perhaps she should practice this, then this terrible screaming would end... and you do not really have to sing with a vibrato in your voice, look at sharon den adel... she also has no vibrato in it, and it sounds at least good enough (okay okay.. some might like her, she has a good voice, no doubt).. but anette just tries to hard.. practising to sing with the headvoice might help^^

So, i try again... I know that singing high is "Soprano", and a deep female voice is alto.. yes, sure.. but i thought of "headvoice" .. and for that you can also use the synonyme "falsetto"....

in german you almost never use the expression "falsetto" for a female voice, but i was under the impression (my dearest dictionary..) that in english it is quite okay to use it to describe the "head-voice"-thing. So... and because Anette is Alto, and has to sing the Songs... which are written for a soprano voice, it sounds really really bad. She could try to use her headvoice. Perhaps she gets higher with that. That was what I meant.
