The only way to look at it is as a series of bands with different time lines that came together to shape metal's sound. Blue Cheer may have come earlier, but Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin were a bit more popular and changed the sound a bit, and made it their own. This cycle of creation and change involved to some extent almost every band of the era in some way or another. Its like chaos theory really. And that, is my original deep thought for the day.
