i have been doing this at the gym for 3 months people stare at me when i hit the mitts and the bag. lol i was going to ge get a drink of water and they all moved to the side and let me go first lol.
This is complete shit which only lead to injury, if you want to build punching power then practice punching, get on the floor to ceiling ball because power is useless without timing and if you insist on using some sort of resistance exercise then invest in some decent resistance bands!
Fedor does do this I have seen a video of it. Doesn't mean it's suitable for all hitters though. One one hand it may increase power, but on the other it may slow you down slightly. Everyone is different and obviously the little magic word of 'technique' which is above any power you can think of.
There are studies that show adding weight resistance for sport training like boxing, baseball doesnt help with speed. It doesnt help develope the "twich"muscles that are used in explosive speed. You need to develope bare hand(unweighted) speed on a speed bag or work with a trainer on mitts
this is bullshit. I have been a boxer for years and boxing power does not come from strength. It comes from technique, how to use your whole body, from your feet to your hands and include them all in the punch. Why do you think someone like the pacman has such power for such a small guy? it is all about technique. this man just looks like a retard.
@TimeToDwell A guy with perfect technique that weighs 180 pounds vs a guy with perfect technique that weighs 230 pounds obviously will have less power. A stronger guy with perfect technique vs a weaker guy with perfect technique will have more power. Some people are just born with power and some aren't.
@13Doses you are saying the obvious. Lets break it down: you take a a guy at 180 with perfect technique and a guy at 180 with zero technique, who will punch the hardest? always the guy with the technique. that was my original point. of course if one guy at 230 and one guy at 180 have great technique then the 230 guy will usually hit hardest. if you take manny vs an amateur who is 50 pounds heavier, manny will hit hardest. its not all about size or strength, it is about technique. follow?
@TimeToDwell I've seen boxers use this (without the jumping however). Look up Marquez' training for Pacquiao-Marquez III. Technique has always been my highest priority too, but you hone your body to give it your best. Give it a go, you might surprise yourself.
**Warning to others** my elbow started screwing up after doing this for awhile, so it might not be for everyone.
@TimeToDwell You bring up Pac, but the fact is another fighter with great power , and of course technique, Fedor does use this exercise in his training . No matter what you can't argue with success. Maybe someone is looking for anything and comes across this, uses it and develops better power , muscular endurance or anything. For that guy it worked . Bottom line . How are you the expert about everyone else ? I'm sure there is stuff u do that wouldn't work for others ..
Weighted pushups are ok. Basic pushups with claps. ..great. used to do them when was in wrestling. But this exercise teaches you balance while standing, essential in mma.
This is actually a very stupid thing to do. You are better off doing that in a lying/bench position. Think about it, when you use an olympic bar, (20kg) you are also using gravity against you, which strengthens the muscles that help keep your arm up working against punching strength. You kids watch too much DragonballZ
@ProCrowZer0 It's not for strength. Punch power is about proprioception and that's what this trains. Body mechanics makes a good punch more than muscle strength.
People will look at you funny if you do fucking deadlifts. Forget the ppl at the gym - most of them will never go beyond bicep curls and stair masters. Train.
@mackGUNS Yeahhh and that's why they're all gym monkeys who think they're great and that's why Fedor is awesome and humble and one of if not the greatest fighter to ever live.
punching is 50 born 50 made bro. saying it is not made is fucking ignorant and stupid, they train (punching, weights) etc relentlessly = made u FUCKING NOOB
@Teddybear419 You probably also expected the bar to fly out of his hands and smash into the mirror. I saw that coming. As the gym owner I think I would ask him to relocate.
Iwas doing this where I train Muay Thai and everybody looked at me like "Look at this asshole" but then I told them Fedor does this and everybody looked away :D
Those who say Fedor don't do this and all this...I've seen him do It In one of his training videos...Hence, why this guy made this video? Quit bitching.
wouldnt pushups where u explode and leave the ground then land again be a better exercise? More explosive power developed + ur arms wont get ripped out of their sockets. I used to use light d/bells when I trained punches, then got shoulder problems, but kept training that way. When I realized that I was actually training to pull my punches to avoid shoulder pain, I dropped the idea of using d/bells
the title is wrong then. should have been only: "one of the ways to improve punching power". its THIS, and about 100 more things that are between a human punch and the one fedor can throw. very good exercise tho. keep it up.

@IRealBored Yes of course. My point is that I get annoyed when people who do not punch hard ask questions like 'How do you get punching power like Mike Tyson?' which do not really make sense once you know boxing.
@funkysc100 They did train but they were born punchers meaning if Tyson was 20 years old and never trained in his life, if he punched you he would leave you paralyzed. You can train for power but not for their type of power.
@matouseknl i dunno about elbows but after doing this 3 times a week for a few weeks my shoulders and triceps are really not feeling good - and not in a mass building way either! i tried to bench press at the gym yesterday and my shoulders gave out.
THIS EXERCISE DOES BUILD POWER FOLKS BUT IF YOU'RE A FREQUENT WEIGHT TRAINER I WOULD NOT DO IT!

It won't tear your arms out of socket and yes I do fight. But please I know Fedor does it but it isn't the sole reason the man hits like a truck. Technique and form have a lot to do with it...even in the weight room. Stay strong and work hard!
@TacticalGearJunkie Well Im guessing your shoulders, chest and arms are more developed or your in good fitness shape. I was directing more towrds anyone who hasn't developed yet punching wise and decides to start off with this...cause for anyone in average condition it is very dangerous. But like I always say if it works, it works.
i train with trainers who trian fighters such as sean sherk matt hughes brock lesnar brad t watever it is and nick lentz i asked them if this exercise helped they said yes but u cant just do this exercise and hope to get knockout power u have to incorporate other "quick twitch" muslce exercses for this to give u benifts
again, your trying to sound intellectual after you just said "Don't need a knockut puch to fuck someone up with a sword or a knife" that isn't something i know about but i do claim to have knowledge AND experience in this field, if you don't wish to enter a very one sided argument with me, stop replying and get educated. What was the point in posting the link if it wasn't to prove you know best? I think it is apparent you don't good day, don't get stabbed luv ;)
@sionlow69 Just calling it as I see it, mate. Take the boulder off your shoulder.
I never claimed to be knowledgeable about either of those topics. I linked a video clip which depicted FE performing the exercise here and directed it at your original comment.
Relax, old boy, and take the time to read. I know it's hard for you, but do try. It's terribly important. Misreading what people write makes you look like one of the morons you profess to hate, and you don't want that, do you?
@halfassedfart like i said just trying to educate the many, the FEW already know the fundamentals and will be aware of the benefits of plyometric training. Having the top rated comment is a clearly food for brainless idiots looking to incite an argument but ho hum, bring it on.....
@sionlow69 Honestly, I posted a goddamn link and said it works for Fedor. I never claimed to be an expert. Get the fuck over it and stop whining.
I study WMA, specifically the use of the longsword. Jumping to conclusions is really not helping your cause, mate. It makes you look like an imbecile.
I'm going to let you have the last word, you really look like you need it. Good day, and try not to injure yourself by walking into things. That chip on your shoulder must really obscure your vision.
for the person who said this wont increase ur punching power u r sadly mistaken....... this will improve ur power and speed IF and IF u have the right form and actually know how to punch
i like this workout. i like how it feels. nobody at the gym looks at me funny, but i also have alot of unusual looking workouts and they all know that so they probably dont care.
@sionlow69 your partially right. form does help with alot of where the punching power comes from. but for example training with a heavy bag your able to work on certain muscle fibers and when your build those it builds your strength this guy is explaining how to work out those muscles that will later help with the punching power. i agree form is Ideal and #1 but you can gain punching power from building the muscles you use to punch.
@Ostrasize that was a constructive reply, you must REALLY know your shit, technique and weight transfer ARE the 2 most important factors when throwing a punch, you sir a re a fucking idiot if you think trowing a bar infront of you and catching it is more important. Jog on sunshine.
@sionlow69 I'm aware they're the 2 most important factors, they're not the ONLY factors though. You said technique is the way you gain punching power, which is true, it's not the only way. Do you think Sam Langford and Willy Pep had the same punching power due to technique? No, there's other factors that determine punching power, and gaining punching power. Not once did I say the bar thing works, so don't say I did. I'm dealing with someone of inferior intelligence, RETARD.
@Ostrasize ok, i can see where your comming from now, your first reply was just a fucking insult frankly. Sorry for bitin and that don't wanna start a fuckin keyboard fight with ya ;) I assure you i'm no retard and i retract my idiot comment from earlier. You at no point said this works, and in actual fact it 'might' benefit, but i was just trying to say there are other things people should really be focussing on. It's all luv cuz.
@sionlow69 Technique defines how uch weight you can transfer. I agree though, Its all good that you train your fast twitch muscle fibers but that only defines how fast you can extend your arm so the weight can be transfered to the target. Real punching power comes from technique but of course strong muscles help so less weight is absorbed on impact. in this case its just about how fast you can extent your arms probably 5-10% of punch power AT BEST.
@Jersm5 One of the most important things about punching power is confidence to throw the big shots, guys who hit hard are not scared of getting hit so they let their hands go.
@Jimmynable if you ask me its not about confidence but about pracice... the confidence to throw a shot is developed as you practice punching. Like bruce lee would have said, "i do not fear a man who has thrown 10 000 punches but the man who practices one punch 10 000 times"..
Confidence to punch doesnt just pop up one day.. it takes lots of practice to perfect the weight transfer for one punch. mastering he muscle memmory to throw that hard punch in any situation your foot work bring you in.
Bottom line...Fedor likes it . Are all you guys w negative comments so much better than Fedor that your telling others not to try it ?

Technique and form have a lot to do with it...even in the weight room. Stay strong and work hard!

@TacticalGearJunkie Well Im guessing your shoulders, chest and arms are more developed or your in good fitness shape. I was directing more towrds anyone who hasn't developed yet punching wise and decides to start off with this...cause for anyone in average condition it is very dangerous. But like I always say if it works, it works.

manbeargip 9 months ago
again, your trying to sound intellectual after you just said "Don't need a knockut puch to fuck someone up with a sword or a knife" that isn't something i know about but i do claim to have knowledge AND experience in this field, if you don't wish to enter a very one sided argument with me, stop replying and get educated. What was the point in posting the link if it wasn't to prove you know best? I think it is apparent you don't good day, don't get stabbed luv ;)
sionlow69 9 months ago
@sionlow69 Just calling it as I see it, mate. Take the boulder off your shoulder.
I never claimed to be knowledgeable about either of those topics. I linked a video clip which depicted FE performing the exercise here and directed it at your original comment.
Relax, old boy, and take the time to read. I know it's hard for you, but do try. It's terribly important. Misreading what people write makes you look like one of the morons you profess to hate, and you don't want that, do you?
halfassedfart 9 months ago
@halfassedfart like i said just trying to educate the many, the FEW already know the fundamentals and will be aware of the benefits of plyometric training. Having the top rated comment is a clearly food for brainless idiots looking to incite an argument but ho hum, bring it on.....
sionlow69 9 months ago

@jgagne91681 cool story bro.
wogacelli 9 months ago
@sionlow69 your partially right. form does help with alot of where the punching power comes from. but for example training with a heavy bag your able to work on certain muscle fibers and when your build those it builds your strength this guy is explaining how to work out those muscles that will later help with the punching power. i agree form is Ideal and #1 but you can gain punching power from building the muscles you use to punch.
jgagne91681 9 months ago
@jgagne91681 i completely agree with what your saying, ty for forming a constructive reply.

I don't know about punching power, but Fedor does do this alright.

@sionlow69 You think it only comes from Technique? Then you're a fucking idiot.
Ostrasize 10 months ago 11
@Ostrasize that was a constructive reply, you must REALLY know your shit, technique and weight transfer ARE the 2 most important factors when throwing a punch, you sir a re a fucking idiot if you think trowing a bar infront of you and catching it is more important. Jog on sunshine.
sionlow69 10 months ago 14
@sionlow69 I'm aware they're the 2 most important factors, they're not the ONLY factors though. You said technique is the way you gain punching power, which is true, it's not the only way. Do you think Sam Langford and Willy Pep had the same punching power due to technique? No, there's other factors that determine punching power, and gaining punching power. Not once did I say the bar thing works, so don't say I did. I'm dealing with someone of inferior intelligence, RETARD.
Ostrasize 10 months ago
@Ostrasize ok, i can see where your comming from now, your first reply was just a fucking insult frankly. Sorry for bitin and that don't wanna start a fuckin keyboard fight with ya ;) I assure you i'm no retard and i retract my idiot comment from earlier. You at no point said this works, and in actual fact it 'might' benefit, but i was just trying to say there are other things people should really be focussing on. It's all luv cuz.
sionlow69 10 months ago
@sionlow69 dude im so sorry , you insulted so I did. Im high right no.ww. I love you dude, I'm sos orry about what I said !!
Ostrasize 10 months ago
@sionlow69 Technique defines how uch weight you can transfer. I agree though, Its all good that you train your fast twitch muscle fibers but that only defines how fast you can extend your arm so the weight can be transfered to the target. Real punching power comes from technique but of course strong muscles help so less weight is absorbed on impact. in this case its just about how fast you can extent your arms probably 5-10% of punch power AT BEST.
Jersm5 8 months ago
@Jersm5 One of the most important things about punching power is confidence to throw the big shots, guys who hit hard are not scared of getting hit so they let their hands go.
Jimmynable 8 months ago
@Jimmynable if you ask me its not about confidence but about pracice... the confidence to throw a shot is developed as you practice punching. Like bruce lee would have said, "i do not fear a man who has thrown 10 000 punches but the man who practices one punch 10 000 times"..
Confidence to punch doesnt just pop up one day.. it takes lots of practice to perfect the weight transfer for one punch. mastering he muscle memmory to throw that hard punch in any situation your foot work bring you in.
