This band easily had the most talent of all the glam groups from the 1980's. Sheehan is a monster on bass, Gilbert is one of the best guitarists of all time, Martin has a decent voice for this type of music and let's not forget Pat Torpey is no slouch on the drums.

Even though I'm from this era (so to speak), and loved the "athletic" musicianship back in the day, looking back on it now I have to say that as far as songwriting, this has really nothing to offer other than "look at me" self indulgence.

It's really not a surprise that Nirvana and company put this stuff to death. This music had jumped the shark and become a characiture of itself.

Their upbeat songs are playful and energetic; the songwriting isn't trying to be meaningful, not every band needs to have a 'point' other than making you feel energised. Besides, this song is just at the beginning of their career as a band, they certainly matured musically and relaxed on the note-count.
