  • thank you for this upload

  • great video of this wonderful performance...Steely Dan...not much better than them!

  • damn good chord changes in here

  • I see them every time they tour my city . They're great .

  • 25 people died behind the wheel

  • @MrGooie rofl

  • love this...tell me why the background singers steal the show! They're the stars!!

  • Keith Carlock, one of the top drummers today.

  • One of the saddest songs I know beautifully rendered. Nobody can bend Becker's lyrics like Fagen, not even Beckham!

  • it took me 3 years to truly understand the lyrics of this song

  • I am so in love with Ms. Lionheart!!!!

  • @davseb222 isn't she breath taking!

  • Stupid ass people again with the dislikes who don't appreciate good music like this

  • This goes out to all the LSU Loosers

  • this one goes out to all you LSU fans out there

  • 25 people do not know good music when they hear it.

  • Walk Weiskopf bad solo@6:13

  • @ericfontainejazz .....maybe but that's just YOUR opinion.....I like it.

  • I farted.

  • MrLudijak, scotch-whisky is good. Moderation is the key.

  • fuck me, what a great song, good live performance too, could have done without teh sax solos, but thats just me. donald fagen is a genius!

  • I want to die behind wheels after drinking scotch-whisky, best way to go to hell.

  • I just Love Steely Dan!!!!!

  • Perhaps the greatest duo ever.

  • ROLL TIDE ROLL...ALABAMA

  • They got a name for the winners in the world I want a name when I Loose...They call Alabama The Crimson Tide... Call me.....

  • I think this band came in 8'th in "The Steely Dan Sound-alike Concert" in Spjöhnfüht. poor feeling, lousy singer (sings false in the chorus). Good thing its not the real thing!

(The above is of course a joke - but honestly not one of their finest moments.. And before you label me a deaf noob - Im a huge SD fan, have all their recordings including the rare bootleggs, and I even had a 14-man tribute band copying every note down to the soloes. So I DO know SD better than you do ^^)

  • The original is one of my favorites by the way. But.... there was good reasons to why they went into such detail in the recording studio; it just isnt going to work live. Sorry - but the concept of SD kinda has to be the fine tuned perfection of hard studio work - and not some live gig throwing one of the greatests songs with what seems to be their left hands...

  • @adamtoensberg...your comment shows you no nothing of the concept of Steely Dan

  • one of the best songs by the greatest band ever, there is NO better duo than Fagen and Becker.

  • um, that a tenor sax, not a baritone.

  • Probably there greatest song..this it

  • Akja427 to add to the answer Wake Forest (Demon Deacons) is at the opposite ends of the College sports world from Alabama (the Crimson Tide) the song name is in reference to the Deacons..... and the "blues" they have...

  • 3 questions:

    1. What's the significance of The Alabama Crimson Tide?

    2. What kind of Scotch Whiskey does he drink; Jack Daniels?

    3. Does one ALWAYS have to be depressed to perform the Blues?

I could never figure this stuff out when I hear this tune. If someone could help me out, I'd appreciate it.

  • @kja427 1 University of Alabama has been one of the premiere teams in college football. Their nickname? The Crimson Tide. Symbol for the winners of the world.

2 Jack Daniels is not a scotch whiskey.

3 Nope...blues just conveys deep emotions

  • @kja427 1. Bama is a premier sports team that traditionally wins

    2. Johnie Walker Blue 3. No but it helps...lol

The Deacon Blues is in reference to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (a perineal loser)

    hence forth the "Deacon Blues"!

  • @peelumba Your right he's talking about Wake Forest.

  • @kja427 jack daniels aint SCOTCH WHISKEY

How u feel about blues tunes DEPENDS on yer mood and sounds .good blues can b a gr8 uppper. try a nice scots whisky

  • i love this music... I will not let my kids listen to current music in general. There music players all have 80's music on them. Todays music is just full of violence and sex.... ridiculous! Little kids dont need to hear that junk.....

  • @ltdorn The more you try to restrict them the more they'll want to listen to what you don't want them to.

  • @ltdorn LOL! 80's music isn't about Sex?? The term "Rock & Roll" means to have Sex!!

I grew up during the 70's and 80's MOST of the music was about Sex and Drugs!!

  • best two man band of all time

  • way cool!

  • I'd eat that purple dress out in front of my mom. ;p

  • @levinethemachine You'd hafta stand in line.

  • Very rarely do Live version get so close to studio versions. I love it!

  • Possibly my favorite song... ever.

  • this is still the best

  • one of the very few bands whose music doesn't sound stale after 30 years

  • Du vast

  • A true classic for all time.

  • Pure Genius

  • Drink Scotch whiskey all night long and die behind the wheel? Nice! :)

  • I once enjoyed a heavy doobie while driving to this great masterpiece...

  • @pallallan been there done that : )) sweet

  • @pallallan been there done that : )) sweet

  • @mtavares Why R U shouting? This music should be mellowing you out if you are listening and not hating. "it's not blues!" duh. Read the lyrics if you want to know what you are talking about. Maybe they don't belong in the RRHoF because their songs aren't like Zeppelin. But consider this... Jazz inspired rock and maybe these guys are turning it back to jazz to be different? Personally I think all these awards and HoF are bogus. But they have had an impact.

  • Love the sax! One of my ALL TIME FAVORITE bands!!

  • Love the sax! One of my ALL TIME FAVORITE bands!!

  • He moves away from the mic to breathe.

  • I don't care...I find Donald Fagen one of the sexiest men I've ever seen. You just have to "get it."

  • total cool.. absolute song perfection...the baddest collection of notes..

  • THIS ISNT BLUES PEOPLE !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 10/15/11.... 24 dildos don't like Donald, Carolyn and Jon Herrington..... I don't even wanna know what THEY're listening to......... Jeff

  • These guys were REAL artists.

Where have all of the great ones, from years gone by.

  • @mtavares92 you are so wrong...The Dan are rock and roll with style and talent

  • @mtavares92 Give it a rest, pal.

  • I love this song, and this is the first time i have watched it being performed live. Very Cool but that sax performer should have stuck to the original version...... I didnt like his freestyle ?? Anyone else have the same feeling?

  • @mrbrancat I agree with you!

  • shit

  • sorry the girls didnt do it for me...... heard a lot better ....

  • this band influence my youth and many indonesian kids in year 1977...and till today still live in our life...great band performance of Donald Fagen and friends!

  • @mlovmo it's dive behind the wheel. Just saying.

  • excellent but sack the sax player

  • @misty8718 Agreed. Not great. While they're at it, they should sack the overly vibrato backup singer. Yer not backin' up Beyonce, dial it down, lady!

  • Cette chanson vous prend aux tripes!

Le refrain est fabuleux et les arrangements sont d'une finesse absolue.

    MON morceau préféré!

  • i think of taking away worries bathing on the beach sailing

  • Great song!!

  • Those backup singers are overdoing it! Fucking egomaniacal cunts!

  • Walt Weiskopf is burning on this.

  • I bought a sax and started drinking scotch because of this song.

  • @WhoShotJR666 good for you! two worthwhile pursuits.

one of my sax player friends even soaks his reeds in it (the scotch).

    PS: please drink responsably

  • @WhoShotJR666

    ...don't die behind the wheel.

  • @WhoShotJR666 So close to my own experience. You made me laugh! What better could you wish?

  • @WhoShotJR666 One hell of a fine combination!

  • @WhoShotJR666 Inexplicably (if not unsurprisingly) I bet thousands, if not millions of us did the same thing.

    I find that totally Cool.

  • @WhoShotJR666 Irish whiskey

  • todays music aint shit

  • @Bexly Today's music IS shit!

  • I disagree. Every generation has had their music criticized by the generation before it. I can remember my grandfather saying the Beatles were just noise and not music, like his beloved Glen Miller or Aretha Franklin. My father saying Led Zepplin was painful to hear, not like his Beatles and Elvis and Beach Boys. My kids say my Steely Dan and Eric Clapton suck, not like thier precious Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber. And on and on it goes. Every set of ears hears what it likes :)

  • @smacman68 i'll say this: when these kids take the time to study and listen and understand. saying you dont like Bach doesnt mean that his genious cant be appreciated, like the Beattles, Aretha, Elvis, Armstrong. i'm talking real talent that inspires, and influence the art..not necessarily the industry. i'm talking about people that not only sing but they play and write. todays music OVERALL lacks idealism and creativity. i can clearly see influences on gaga and beiber thus its no suprise...

  • @Bexly OK. I'll give you that it has become overly industrialized. And I know any 4th grade dropout with a drum machine and some ignorant poetry thinks he's the Chaiman Of The Board (a Soppranos line) and that Gaga and Beiber are just products of that machine. Perhaps they were poor examples. There are many talented, inspired & excellent musicians still out there, waiting for their chance.

  • @smacman68 hey, i understand you cant write an essay..lol. my point is, think about it. what do you think your kids will listen to when they get older after making friends from all over the world? the very common "hey you listen to that? my dads the only person i thought listened to that" will come up for sure.i was fortunate as an african american to grow up in an eclectic environ. mowtown, classic rock,,jazz, country.

watched bandstand, soul train, heehaw, etc. music i know well :)

  • amen!

  • this is the day

  • Me too. best concert I have ever been to.

  • Saw them this past Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, AL...when they did this gem, and got to that famous line, "They call Alabama the Crimson Tide", the crowd went absolutely NUTS. Hope SD dropped this one from their set list if they played Auburn...would've been a few boos...

  • Best concert EVER in George Washington Gorge!!!

  • In my TOP 5 bands of ALL TIME, LOVE Them!

  • This music is OUR RELIGION, "make joy to our soul"!!! What we have to do with the music of present time? I really cannot understand. This music you can Hear for the rest of the life, never make tired!!!!!

  • Tuscaloosa Amphitheatre tonight.

    TTown Never Down!

  • RTR!!

  • Love it., going to see them live saturday and sunday!!

  • ANY Steely Dan song takes me back 35 years. Those were the days.

  • 19 people have obviously never bought the dream.

  • I love, love, love Donald Fagen...he's the best! He uses every bit of that gorgeous mouth of his when he sings!

  • Just seen them at Merriweather Post Pavillion in Maryland and they were fantastic!!! Its nice to attend a concert thats all about the music, where most everybody is sober and behaving themselves as respectful fans. The band sounded as good as their CD's on almost every song. Thanks guys you were great!!!

  • friggin' awesome

  • I'm a 22 year old female and I like this just as much as any 53 year old male that grew up with it.

  • For all you oldies out there - I'm 24 and grew up on Dan, and am obsessed with it. My dad would listen to every album (especially Aja) all the time when I was in grade school, and its grown on me ever since. This fall we'll be going to NY to see them play at Beacon... Some of the most amazing musicians I've ever listened to. So believe you me - It's not lost in time.

  • wow that drum set is tuned weird

  • Seriously? Who would dislike this?!

  • @TheSupersaxman94 Ga Ga fans, Beiber fans and all the lovers of the music that no longer requires any talent era that is now. That's my best guess.

  • Backup singers have way too much vibrato. They sound like the husband and wife duo Marty Culp and Bobbi Moughan-Culp on Saturday Night Live.

I like the studio track singers better.

  • @pressrolls . Yep, a bit distracting. Sometimes that hides pitch problems (not saying that's happening here at first listen though....)

  • amazing....what happened to music??.....you never hear stuff like this anymore....what a shame

  • I love there music but they have to be the two ugliest people in rock.

  • @ToniMattTony Seal gets my vote for ugliest

  • @Fend4urself You know what I was wrong you were right. Seal is the ugliest.

  • From my timeline, do miss it...

  • they are touring this summer. I am seeing them tonight in central New York. Can't wait,, had to come here for a preview.

  • Wow, so timeless. Glad I saw them 4 times in concert. Hope they tour again but play more early works from Countdown to Ecstacy and Pretzel Logic.

  • Donald Fagen moves away from the mike to breathe.

  • i agree

i might be young but i appreciate the ancestors of good rock music.

  • @psyckonuts I'm glad that other young people also appreciate good music.

  • Donald Fagen? you sound like shit

  • 18 people listen to crappy bar band music...

  • If more old music could hold up like this has, I wouldn't be so sick of oldies stations. I can't take any more Elton John or BIlly Joel. They never had the depth this music does.

  • Perfection! That's it and that's all. Songs that had EVERYTHING. Just perfect - and on so many levels and in so many ways. Then and now - Steely Dan set the bar. Long live Fagen & Becker!!!

  • "I want a name when I lose..

  • dann those girls can sing..

  • god damn, their song writing is something else..very visual..

  • I have one MP3 CD in my car stereo; Citizen Steely Dan along with solo albums by Fagan and that's all I need. Rock, Jazz, Pop and just good music all in one, thank G'd for Steely Dan.

  • I'm singing along I love it!!!

  • They call Oklahoma the Soooooners. OU 38, Alabama 21 Nat. Title Game 2012.

  • ROLL TIDE

  • The song takes as an image the contrast between the perennial powerhouse, Crimson Tide football team, and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, who had won only 7 games in the 1972-1975 period.

  • @rgaddyable holy crap i didnt know what the refenece was about. went to alabama everybody erupts when this comes onbut never knew what it was about. thanks you have untavelled a decades long mystery(that i could have theoretically found out about, but am way too lazy)

  • CLASSIC. I was 11 when I HAD to have this album. I listened to it in my room for hours and hours with my ear against the speaker of my tiny record player speaker holes. I worked all kinds of odd jobs to save up to get a REAL stereo (the cheapest Sears offered) to listen to the Aja album with the respect I knew it deserved. I was a LONELY 11 year old, but Steely Dan made it okay. Today at 45 I am still the biggest Dan Fan I know and hold ALL of their music in an almost religified esteem.

  • @truedtaylor Well put they are great, saw them 4 years ago at New Orleans Jazzfest, the best..............

  • @truedtaylor Yeah yeah yeah, wonderful, brilliant musicians, intelligent lyrics. Too Good for the idiot brigade (Of which there are many) LOL

  • Got a name for the winners in the world.....They call Alabama The Crimson Tide.....

  • @jbailey87 War Eagle sucka :p

  • do you know what a steel dan is its a vibrator for women to pleasure themselves!

  • Fagen & Becker. Two of the greatest musical composers ever.

  • The Dan is COOL!

  • This one's for real. I already bought the dream..

  • Drink scotch whiskey all night long...

  • Das ist das Lied meines lebens. Dazu war ich jung und alt. Best Song ever.

  • I first heard this song when i was 8 years old, and the words "learn to work the saxophone...drink scotch whisky all night long and die behind the wheel" came on, I knew I was doomed to be a saxophonist for the rest of my life. Pete Christlieb's solo on the original version spoke to me in a way nothing ever had. as an adult, I learned what it meant to "take once last drag [of a cigarette] before a approach the [band]stand". This song is about me, and every jazz musician before and yet to come.

  • All is fine - but the drum SOUND just sucks!

  • Comment removed

  • This came out in my early teens. I think it was the first sophisticated tune I ever got. Thanks for the post, mang.

  • I love this song!!!

  • Class

  • Class

  • Ah This takes me back

  • stereo types all the men are musicians and the women are backup vocals

  • i used to think steely dan was a person not a band

  • @ultimatepie27 Steely Dan is a dildo.

  • @BloatedSensations wow...apparently that's true. how funny is that?

  • I heart this song!

  • is this pop, not rock, may b smooth jazz

  • @nocusblob This Is rock n Roll witha whole lot of Jazz!!

  • I like this video

  • TAKE OUT THE TRASH!

  • Love Steely Dan, love them, love them :)

  • a throw in the towel song but B & F et al. sold it to me

  • Is that Joshua Redmen playing tenor?

  • Simply phenomenal timeless, modernistic, endearing and luscious sound tracks to life. ...
