He's a really beautiful mover! His piaffe is immaculate and his passage is perfectly timed and the elevation is just right! Altogether a fantastic horse! Him and Anky work so well together!! I love Hanoverians! I just hope I can train mine up to a good standard! :S
Overall excellent ride. I see some issues here and there. The horse does seem to be a bit too tight at the mouth but better too tight than too loose and having the bit banging all over the place. I also agree with whoever noted that he doesn't quite move completely from the hind. No matter how well she rides and performs though I still don't agree with her training methods. Too many health risks for me thank you very much.
Beautiful rider, and I am not here to critique her or her riding style because it is not right to critique her until I am able to sit on that horse and do a better job, but, notice a lot of the time his jaw is tense. To much contact. If his mouth is braced, chances are the rest of his body is going to be tense and not move thoroughly. He is a beautiful mover, but is he really loose in his back, it seems to me that he might be moving with his front end and his back end is just there.
She did this as a pas de deux or however you say it, and she was on a fresian and the other rider was on an adalusian or maybe the opposite, it's really awesome but it's not on youtube :(
loutheil said it was La Carmen de Bizet but this is incorrect. This is Partrout's Tango composed/arranged by Anky van Grunsven's personal musical freestyle music composers.
@Dressageriderrobin Cees Slings and Victor Kirkoff or something like that arranged it specifically to his footfalls. So basically, it's the Anky Tango Kur.
i love dressage, when done correctly. I like the way anky rides but i truely hate what she (and all dressage riders) do to the horses mouth... horse is PERFECTLY on the beat for much of the song, good ride
there's nothing wrong with the horses mouth :) he's foaming from working on the bit correctly. I ride in a rubber mullen-mouth snaffle, the softest bit you can get, and he still foams. it just means he is 'listening' and allowing contact through the reins. its a good thing! :P
Yep yep! Theres more leg pressure used than anything...if it's more bit pressure then their doing it wrong...Dressage is the reason I have good leg muscles haha
Love the horse, although I agree that he seems tense, and is probably a bit green when it comes to GP. He's no Salinero, that's for sure, but he is still a stunner. Not as good in the collected work, but he did come in second in the World Cup, so that has to mean something!
To teach a horse to do this all is not easy, the horse has to carey his whole body en almost has to sit down to do this, and the most horses walk at the front that's less heavy for them en not from the back so it looks very easy but it's not! it costs alot of training
(my english is not so good i'm dutch wahaha i hope you understand it a little:P)
if you dnt like dressage dont watch it anybody can get a horse to fly round a barrel theres loads of different movments you have to teach these horses to get to this level.
painted black is going really nice my friend has a foals off him
I see nothing beautiful about this. It is fairly easy to teach a horse to do many so-called dressage movements.
Dressage means training. No matter if your goal is to run some barrels (like mine) or compete in dressage, there is no excuse for rock solid hands and a horse's head held in such a way. I don't care what she has accomplished in terms of ribbons because it is clear she has accomplished nothing in terms of what the horse feels.
I understand that you dont like Anky because of her training methods, so it's totally fine for every one to have their opinion about that, but it's unfair to say that its easy to teach a horse high level dressage. Because its not. Just like its not easy to teach a horse to correctly jump, to do reining or barrel racing.
You said it all at Barrel racer. You dont know training and if you did you'd know this is not easy. If you had ridden or trained english you'd understand about having the horse collected and working rather than just running flat out. I dont fault you mind, having moved to north america and taken up calf roping as a new challange after 20 years english riding and meeting the other rodeo girls who ride only barrels. Give it a go.
Actually Anky rides her horses very well!! I remember watching her give a Clinic with Spencer Wilton on Dolendo (my trainer) and changed the tensioner (curb chain) by 3 links slack. She said "This is how loose i have my curb chain on my horses, there is no need to have it so tight!" Anky is very quick with her hands and her reaction with her hands are brilliant for connection to the horses mouth!!
After watching your video of you doing poles & barrels, I would remind you that people living in glass houses shouldn't throw stones... If you watch Anky's hands closely her hands are not rock solid, they are actually acting independently from her body, moving with the horses gaits instead of her body, this gives the illusion of "rock solid hands" which are way kinder than the jerk and release method you have.
and if you do a little bit more research you'll find out that she's outstanding and her riding techniqe is so much more than just the flexing of the neck! Please be more well-read before criticizing!
I remember watching Anky at the Sydney Olympics Dressage, it was an awful ride she was probably twice as bad as her score would have lead you to believe.
As for learning to ride properly and let the horse lead with its nose, most people do not realise that the bit should never be behind the ears and that the jaw should be open and relaxed. It is in the FEI rules it is just that judges don't enforce the rules.
thehoofsmith - Her sydney olympic ride was absolutly amazing, one the best dressage tests ever ridden. You must have rocks in your heads if you think it was aweful, id like to see your version of a 'Good dressage test" with you riding the horse! lol. what a joke
Splendid horse! But I hope everyone reads _Tug of War: Classical Versus "Modern" Dressage_ by German rider/vet Gerd Heuschmann, watches the extended trot portion of this video again, and then answers this question: Is this horse a "leg mover" or a "back mover"? That is, is this horse working from his hind end with a relaxed back or is he flicking his toes? Hint: You might want to look at the photos on pages 81 and 82.
I would like to see you try to ride that horse and ride half halts with a loop in your reins, her hands are not heavy, please refrain from commenting if you do not have anything good to say. People WILL be impressed by this clip because the impulsion throughout her movements the impeccable rhythm and balance and the music is perfectly on time throughout the test.
