  • Not even an attempt...this video is seriously misinformed. I feel sorry for you.

  • The anger that a lot of people are expressing over this is not at all necessary, but it has to be noted that the word "Expert" has been used for this... and SOO TOTALLY NAWTTT MAYNE.

  • The frustration that you transmit is sad. If only you were funny ...

  • Well at least he's playing something Jazzy.

  • The genre is ¨ JazzBlues ¨ .. but he fails over the name of the chord

  • So basically this guy knows what he is talking about right?

No. Come on F sharp to B MINOR??

ohh this guy is laughing at music, disgusting...

  • soooo funny!!! you're the man!

  • it's not B minor you cock

  • If this is jazz then what's blues? O_o

  • where do i begin to describe how much shit is in this video.... the dude seems like he just started playing the piano. At 1:21 you can see him count with his right pinky down from the root to the minor seventh. Dude if you have to take baby steps like that to play a chord, save the piano tutorials for the pianists who know what they are talking about. i bet this dudes boyfriend is filming this bullshit, unrelated i know. Sry i'm high

  • @LoseUrCool actually more so 1:18 ish

  • this isn't even jazz ... blues at most #-o

  • this dudes trolling like a pro

  • "And that's how you play traditional jazz music." LMFAOOOO

  • Dude, are you supposed to be an expert? I've only been playing Jazz Piano for 4 years and i could shit out a better lesson any day. This is outrageous. Jazz scales? Creating an error in the key? Throwing a 7th and turning it to jazz?

    I can't believe this.

Oh , and by the way, there's no such thing as TRADITIONAL JAZZ music.

  • @DarkMoonCreations @IamAztecPrincess

There is such a genre as traditional jazz. This isn't it, but calling it traditional jazz is useful for non-muso's.

I'd like to just point out here that neither of you have uploaded lessons, and both of you apparently know more than this guy does.

I mean, what are you doing on a video like this which is meant for non-muso's? Personally I like listening to peoples opinions, if you don't, then feel free to go elsewhere. Quietly, if you wouldn't mind

  • @FraggingBard I could very well upload lessons. However, i'm not satisfied with the way my piano sounds, and my camera isn't that great. I've thought about it, and i'll probably upload a few lessons once i get better equipment.

Oh, and here's the answer to your question. As a jazz musician, and, obviously, jazz enthusiast, i regularly enjoy checking jazz lessons and tricks in order to see if the job is done right. I believe beginners should be taught music the right way.

  • @DarkMoonCreations

That's fair enough. On all counts actually, and don't disagree with any of it. But you know, jazz is one of those genres where the amount of people who know what their talking about is rather small. Figured if someone is teaching, even if badly, it's mildly better than nothing.

    Very mildly. :P

  • @FraggingBard I don't think that's the main issue with this video. There are plenty of videos out there intended for beginners that teach in a very basic and bland way, however, these videos do not teach utterly false things to beginners : They stick to the basics, and try to keep it clear, even if the uploader hasn't gotten too much experience as a musician. I have nothing against bad, basic teachers, but this guy is just wrong on all levels. You don't create jazz by adding a seventh.

  • @DarkMoonCreations Mate, you have completely fallen for this guys joke. This guy isn't for real. watch his other videos, in one he's practically laughing at himself. Lighten up.

  • #FAIL

  • Also, read the description of the video.

  • You all know he's joking, right? LOL. You can tell right when he says "jazz scales".

  • I'm sorry but your videos are not anything close to "How to videos" especially when your camera man takes a right turn a shows you sideview (playing a little piece of a chord that is named wrong anyway). These are not instructive at all and do not help. You also do not seem inspired enough to teach anything and you look like you would rather be someplace else. We come here to learn something and walk away empty handed. ExpertVillage sucks.

  • I didn't know 'til JUST NOW that Ab is the 6th in a 'C' chord. Please, PLEASE stop posting this stuff until you figure out what constitutes an 'error'. Sheeeeeeesh . . .

  • That's not a C6 chord. However, it might work for Fmin/maj7 if you get desperate...

  • "Expert Village" is a crock...absolutely ridiculous! The sad thing is, some people are going to actually try and follow this video...Try and get a real expert maybe?

  • F minor 7 to Bb 7.

    Not F# to B minor.

    Knob head.

  • oh my gosh... that's the worst approach to jazz I've ever heard. "Jazz Scales"?!?!?

  • i came here to become better at my jazz skills,,,,,i ended being way better than the ex

    pert teaching! -_-

  • I had to click like just cause its so hilarious!

  • Nice! BTW – you can learn to play this song in half the time with new gadget that reads MIDI files.

    Google “Gizmag and PianoMaestro”

  • Very informative, thanks

  • insoportable

  • Keep 'em coming dude - pure gold!

  • haha

It's Fminor to Bbmajor not F# to Bminor.

    What an expert!

  • YOU dont need to add any notes to the basic chords to get "errors". You just play a straight C major on your insanely out of tune piano, and you'll get more errors in you chords than all the times your mother got slapped for giving birth to the most retarded person on earth.

Your father should know that getting a baby with his own sister wasn't a good idea...

  • it says in the info that he's a break dancer? wth lol why is he giving piano lessons then lol

  • To compare a bais C chord with a C7 chord, a C chord belongs to the scale of C and the C7 chord belongs to the scale of F. And by the way errors in music don't exist.

  • is this thing a joke or not?

  • @imholding Not even kinda....

  • this is soooo bad ....

  • This is complete nonsense, what makes a chord jazzy? jazz men didnt invent these chords and harmonies they have been used by people like Wagner 200 years ago so you should start from that, an error? he probably means dissonance..which exists from Bach days already..which he didnt play now at all, everything he played is not jazz at all

jazz scales? i didnt know jazz invented new scales. it uses same modes from centuries ago and diatonic. just playing a C7 or something doesnt mean its jazz.

    noob.

  • this man woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day...

seriously. how does adding a 6th or a 7th cause an "error" in the key....it's in the fucking key.

you could cause "an error" in the key maybe if you added a #9 or something....

  • Comment removed

  • "... and it turns into jazz!" made me laugh pretty hard.

  • I'm sorry to point this out but your 6 chord was actully a flat 5, your F# was F and your B was Bb

  • Having the maturity to admit when you don't know something is a very respectable trait.

Making a video under the moniker of "expert" when you are actually butchering a beautiful art form is a very laughable thing to do.

This was a train wreck that I couldn't stop watching.

For anyone actually wanting to learn jazz chords, please look elsewhere. There are several great videos on Youtube that take the topic seriously. This is not one of them.

  • @Drawthemoral Sounds like you're on the case. Guess what, a mate of mine watched Spinal Tap and didn't get that it was a spoof!

  • dude, you don't know the difference between F sharp and F? we need to chat...

  • hahaha..traditional jazz music my ass

  • nice video, thank you, he seems to play the ii7 V7 from the Eb tonality, that gives us then: Fm7 and Bb7, so basically we can resolve on Eb7M

  • "...and that's how you play traditional jazz music". Wow dude.

  • One thing you forgot to mention there, Austin. Traditional jazz is also traditionally played on an out-of-tune piano.

  • This guy is clueless.

  • You are talking to people who read music. You lost me big time. I only play by ear. I know many of the early greats did not read music, yet they played fantastic jazz. Where can I learn how to get the jazz sound without talking in terms of sevenths and all that?

  • You're probably an amazing player, but these videos don't show you off..

  • B minor??? Its Bmajor. dear o dear.

  • Pff.

  • that is so not jazz... enough said..

  • hahahahhahahaha ' And that' s how you play traditional Jazz music ' ..... Expertvillage my ass...

  • Expert village strikes again!!! We need to band together and shut them down. you see a clip and your like "oh this might be good" you click on it and it says expert village. If you like me, when you get caught in that trap, you want to break your computer lol. PS, this SUCKS!!!

  • So jazz is a bunch of errors really. Ok..

Wtf is a rubnote? ive never heard the term b4.

  • WATCH OUT!! He ain't telling the truth... Why does he call an F minor chord an F# and a Bb7 a Bm ?

  • sounds like the blues to me.

  • thats not jazz

  • I've just become a BIG fan of this guy. Fucking brilliant.

  • @JustinSandercoe We need to get together and give this man an award for teaching us the essence of jazz

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA THIS IS HILARIOUS! And a complete disgrace....but such quality!!

I didn't realise that the 6th of C is an G sharp...1 F sharp to B minor...throw a 7th in there and it turns into jazz....WHEN HE'S ACTUALLY PLAYING F MINOR TO B FLAT!!!! He's just spewing out words. This is hilarious! OK I'm done.

  • Are you kidding me? WTF is a rub chord? There was no ERROR about any of those chords. The only ERROR was that when you were discussing moving from F# to B, it was actually F to Bb...learn your shit man!

  • Comment removed

  • uuhh.... good thing i don't have a camcorder then i can show him how jazz is done.. =3

  • maybe he was nervous because this sounds like a blues lesson

  • please, remove your videos from youtube........

  • I would say the same, but i also think that the internet user has to have some brain to distinguish what is "serious" and what is rubish (no matter if it´s a "joke" or not)

  • please, remove your videos from youtube........

  • Hi Austin. I've watched your "How to play traditional jazz" clip here about 98 times and i still can't do it. Is it me or is it maybe that you don't know anything about music and you are completely full of shit?

  • I always thought the southland gave birth to the blues? Whiporwills high on the hill and like that.

  • Comment removed

  • hahah "let's just throw a 7th in there and it turns into jazz". That's awesome.

  • Bb major is NOT b minor. I really really do hope he's kidding. If so, good joke. ha.

  • "throw a seventh in it and it turns into jazz" LOL ITS LIKE MAGIC

  • this guy is hilarious - love it!

  • this guy's funny!

  • the description says he's a break dancer but says nothing about him being a jazz musician! freakin waste of time

  • imagine how his dancing must be...

    hahahah

  • hes taking the mick, i really cant believe that people dont notice that. you must also make sure you play your rub notes correctly. hes even made a vid on jazz rub.

  • Man, all this time I've been spelling B minor with a D natural instead of a D#. Thanks for the enlightenment, Austin!

  • and here I've been crying myself to sleep at night trying to wrap my head around advanced jazz theory. Thank you Austin! I can now rest easy, knowing full well that Bill Evans had no clue how to play jazz piano. I didn't realize that the dimished 6th was just an error...

  • @Slickear your a moron. he meant an error as far as the chord goes. it sounds off becuase theres half steps. dont be such a hack on youtube.

  • shouldn't experts play a good piano?

  • This is almost as good as your 5/4 timing, Expert Village Idiot. Thank you!!!

  • "Let's throw a 7th in there and it turns into jazz" DAMMIT!!! I've been doing it all wrong!! I play a lot of pentatonics

  • Wow, awesome. Now I get it. I had never unraveled the secret of jazz until now. Please do more! and if you have a chance, do you have tips for funk music?

  • i love how he says "jazz music"

  • Man... go play drums!

  • wooahh nooo. don't do that. have u seen his 5/4 timing thing and time change? u need timing 2 b a drummer.

  • IDIOT

  • I wish I could swing this hard in a traditional jazz music setting.

  • he plays f minor not f# and then a b flat major and not a b minor.

    so stupid

  • Wow! When you "throw a 7th in there it turns into jazz"? Is that like Lon Chaney "turning" into a werewolf?

  • This is the best video on "traditional jazz music" I have ever seen. I never knew jazz was just about taking triads and putting "errors" in them. You have opened up a new realm of harmonic possibilities for me. Thank you!

  • first of all errors is the wrong word for him to use so dont go spreding that word, use accidentals. Adding "accidentals" into music doesn't make it jazz the star spangeled banner, in Bb, has an E in it, that does not make it jazz. Dont listin to this guy he uses terms that are not used and he doesn't even know what he's playing. Inspire yourself don't let this clown get to you. Experiment around with some comping a piece that you like.

  • @tjjazzpiano Yeah it really brings everything back to simplicity. I know this is an old comment but I feel I had to bump it. IMO there's too much focus on memorizing licks and not really emphasis on how to "speak" jazz. Yet its always so simple

  • @corndogers564 I was being sarcastic. Simple explanations are fine, but you still have to know what you're talking about. This guy is clearly clueless.

  • @tjjazzpiano yeah, this is very useful :)

  • @tjjazzpiano one error is a mistake, many errors strung together is jazz.

  • Is Expert Village like the Onion for music education?

  • expert village? more like village idiot.

  • Well I'm delighted that this has been posted...

'rub notes' eh?...and 'an error in the key'..creates jazz does it?...I see...

If this how you play 'traditional jazz music' then I've clearly got it all wrong over the years...thanks for putting me straight man.

  • Great stuff. very helpful. Do you have any CDs out that we can listen to?

    You make playing jazz easy

  • I don't think you people will go a long way with such a deplorable, cheap, stupid, and 'unmusical' attitude..

It's funny how you guys can say that 'IM A MUSICIAN and I KNOW MUSIC, IM BETTER THAN MR.X!!' You aren't worth to be called one!! Nobody can say that he knows music! Nobody!!

So, spare those kind of cheap and childish comments!! Let him do what he wana do becoz you didnt even try to make one!

Send your videos you too if you think that one so dull..

  • dont be an uneducated idiot

  • If this is traditional jazz, then I am a flying elephant!!! :)

  • Anda acostarte weon atorrante!!!

  • sisi anda lavarte los weos!

  • man u got chops. can u post more videos please??? ..

    TWAT

  • LMFAO - This is a terrible, Austin McBride I don't think you even know what Trad Jazz is.

"And that's how you play traditional Jazz Music" - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Man, I am in tears here.

  • that's gospel...not jazz

  • You're funny man! I just love how you keep a straight face throughout all of your "expert" jazz lessons! Do you do stand-up? Excellent comdedy! Keep it up man.

  • This is atrocious...

  • dosen't sound like trad at all.

  • Shweet. Thanks very much!

  • txc
