In the world of "serious" crossovers. You have Gershwin doing the jazz-classical thing, Piazzolla doing the Tango thing. Bela Fleck & Edgar Meyer doing the bluegrass/classical crossovers. Sonnenberg and Gilles Apap doing Gyspy music.. but David Garrett is only playing covers. We still need a serious Rock/Classical crossover to be represented.
I'd love to see Markov approach a rock concerto from the perspective of Schoenberg meets Dream Theater. Lots of modulation, even to the point of being atonal, odd-time signatures - innovation in sounds (within classical music) like feedback, **notated in sheet music**. He needs a REAL Composer to write it, and a fiery conductor like Dudamel to direct.
Talk about old and antiquated music, this ROCK Concerto appears to be a load of rubbish...it has all be done before and BETTER by guitarists in the GOLDEN AGE of metal!
But he's bridging the gap, albeit from the other side (compared to Malmsteen). Markov is famous for his Paganini. You have to understand the context of classical violin. This is pretty cutting-edge in their territory. It's VERY difficult to mix an orchestra with an electric instrument (live). The mix is usually horrible. Also the vibrato of the electric guitar does not match the orchestra. This genre of "Rock Concerto" is still far from mature.
