I'm a writer, and have been developing a story about this woman named Reiko for a long time. A significant element of the story was that Reiko looked and moved a lot like Faith from Mirror's Edge - this was years before I had ever heard of the game. But when the game came out, I decided to scrap that element entirely. I have conflicting feelings about it, because Mirror's Edge is one of the most beautiful and awesome games I've ever seen. Hard to be upset.

Here's a quote i found, "According to the November 2011 edition of Xbox World magazine, Mirror’s Edge 2 is reportedly in development over at DICE" And then it said it will be using the FrostBite 2 engine! This may be a rumor though. It's said to be released in late of 2012. :))))) I hope its true!

When we look back in 10-20 years, we will not be looking at any of the 5000 WWII or space marine shooters, but titles with character and emotion, like this.
@freebearride don't worry man, i just so happened to have got this game only now myself. Always wanted to try it but somehow felt it wouldn't have been good...but i saw it at an eb used in almost new condition for $10 so i picked it up and now it's in my top 10 list of greatest games i've played. It's a work of art...music, sound, playabilty and atmosphere....all amazing!!!
This is coming from an old school, picky, thinking everything was better in my day gamer: This is one of the finest games I've ever played, and probably the best of this century. Just so innovative, and different from anything else I'd played. I grew bored of FPS's quickly. I prefer my mind be challenged, not just my button mashing.

mirrors edge has to be one of those games that not many gamers play often, but is still an epic game and is still talked about. I know for a fact that mirrors edge has not been canceled and reports have came in from EA saying that the sequal to mirrors eddge will utilize the new Frostbite 2 engine! I say pretty freekin Awesome!

This game would have been a perfect candidate for an open world. Almost like Spiderman games do, but instead of web swinging, you'd be a boss and just run everywhere.
@Naturallygood123 There is in fact a minor difference between actual free-running, and Le Parkour. The art of Le Parkour is the sole fact of getting from point A to B, the fastest way possible, a straith line. Where Free Running focuses more on performing acrobatic "stunts" where it looks good for everyone watching, and no so much on getting anywhere speciffic, in a matter of time. It's a small difference I know :)
as well as mirrors edge 2 id like to see some dlc detailing the backstory of the characters. id like to hear about Mercs life as a runner and Faith's early days as a runner.
An unappreciated work of art due to so many gamers not giving the time to get better at a game.
This is not a game that is designed to HELP you flow smoothly in the game, this is a real game designed to reward you for your real skill in the game just like Sonic was.
So many games have spoiled gamers by not having them try hard enough.

The reason the game got so much critique was because it was a linear "free roaming" parkour game in FP. Had it been made in 3. person I bet it'd gotten better reviews. I personally liked it alot, but blaming people for having bad taste in games because they disliked a game you liked is bad taste in itself.

Our standards are too high and we don't try hard enough anymore. Such can be said about many things I have seen.

I'm not saying you shouldn't put up obstructions to challenge the player, but the perspective the player is controlling from should never be a hindrance. A bad camera angle is something you use to slow people down and build suspension, look at the Silent Hill franchise. With 3P it would've pulled in a massive crowd. It wouldn't be special though.

Bad perspective can break a game, but in this game's design you can perfectly see what is in front of you, with that, you can see what you're doing. If this game was 3rd person, it would be like Tomb Raider; people would complain about camera angles (which they have), thus the game would still be "flawed".
Flow and score is this game's bread and butter and it is REWARDED by good performance.
@thedragonb0y Well, the main hindrance is the camera perspective, I've read in reviews; it's the fact that you cannot see exacly when you're at the very edge of a building, making accurate jumps nigh impossible. People generally have just called the FP design a bad idea. Practicing to complete a level by failing again and again can really destroy the flow of a story. That's what they made the timed/challenge levels for. Story driven levels should be challenging but fun, not endless grinding.
@Trollnumber12 I can see you probably never played this game, because I have never had this problem. If you fall of the edge, it is because of human error, you can PERFECTLY see edges in this game. Also, this game has a deep story, but the levels and game are NOT made for the story. Mirror's Edge is a lot like a Sonic game in terms of it's levels, with a pretty neat story. After you have enjoyed the story, you go back, get better at the levels, and compete against other player's scores online.
@thedragonb0y So true. I like to try and practice games that are a bit harder. For example, the Devil May Cry series. I played those games on the hardest difficulty. Toke me quite some time, but i succeeded in the end.

This was me saying Mirror's Edge got a bad rating because of the gamers who reviewed it, not the game itself. This is one of those unfortunate things that force games to follow a generation to stay with the majority and get better income.
A top rated comment saying mirror's edge is hard and does not hold your hand...what about the "follow the red thing pattern" that it's all over the game? Or the fact that you respawn 2 seconds away from where you died.
It's a game so well designed and beautiful that makes you think you're a pro when in reality it's easy as applepie, think objectively people.
@Manji14 I never said Mirror's Edge was hard, I said it was a GAME. Without those red objects, the player would be completely lost. Think of them as the road in a racing game.
It takes practice to get through the levels smoothly so it gets challenging when it comes to getting through obstacles and going up against other player's. This game is not about its story mode.
@thedragonb0y I turned off the red immediately, and played it as "realistically" as possible by figuring out how to get through while avoiding enemies as much as possible. Much more immersive and cool, IMHO.
@thedragonb0y I agree with you, but I've played sonic many times, in the last games doesn't count your skill, to get an "S" you have to know at memory all the maps..the last good sonic game was SA2 battle for GC, that's my opinion.And I think make an hard game is quite difficult, because you have to entartain the gamers and not to make them feel frustrated 'cause of the difficult.The truth is that some games are playable only by people that spend 10 hrs per day on a console, or by corean people.

@23code speaking from the perspective of a traceur id like to say that Assassins Creed does incorporate most of the gameplay around the aspects of parkour, stealth and technique. if u were to run around the city like a normal person, you would never achieve your objective and if u did find a way by ground alone it would take long. so yes it is PARKOUR is mainly used by the Assassin Order to get around by the most effective means necessary. so accept it .
I don't understand why people didn't like this game. It's awesome, and I hope that production has actually started to continue for the second game, because EA would really screw up if they didn't make that game.
Mirrors edge didn't sell as much as EA thought it would so they canceled the production of number two but due to popular demand restarted the production of a second... it is unclear weather the production is being continued however :P hope this helped, ive been looking at most places officially linked to mirrors edge and most have mixed opinions...

If this game was 3rd person, it would be like Tomb Raider; people would complain about camera angles (which they have), thus the game would still be "flawed".
Flow and score is this game's bread and butter and it is REWARDED by good performance.

@thedragonb0y Well, the main hindrance is the camera perspective, I've read in reviews; it's the fact that you cannot see exacly when you're at the very edge of a building, making accurate jumps nigh impossible. People generally have just called the FP design a bad idea. Practicing to complete a level by failing again and again can really destroy the flow of a story. That's what they made the timed/challenge levels for. Story driven levels should be challenging but fun, not endless grinding.

@Trollnumber12 I can see you probably never played this game, because I have never had this problem. If you fall of the edge, it is because of human error, you can PERFECTLY see edges in this game. Also, this game has a deep story, but the levels and game are NOT made for the story. Mirror's Edge is a lot like a Sonic game in terms of it's levels, with a pretty neat story. After you have enjoyed the story, you go back, get better at the levels, and compete against other player's scores online.

It's a game so well designed and beautiful that makes you think you're a pro when in reality it's easy as applepie, think objectively people.

@Manji14 I never said Mirror's Edge was hard, I said it was a GAME. Without those red objects, the player would be completely lost. Think of them as the road in a racing game.
It takes practice to get through the levels smoothly so it gets challenging when it comes to getting through obstacles and going up against other player's. This game is not about its story mode.

@thedragonb0y I agree with you, but I've played sonic many times, in the last games doesn't count your skill, to get an "S" you have to know at memory all the maps..the last good sonic game was SA2 battle for GC, that's my opinion.And I think make an hard game is quite difficult, because you have to entartain the gamers and not to make them feel frustrated 'cause of the difficult.The truth is that some games are playable only by people that spend 10 hrs per day on a console, or by corean people.

Parkour has existed for decades, which means the staff of Ubisoft easily could have inspired their idea of an Assassin, from Le Parkour, and implemented it into their gameplay. @23code speaking from the perspective of a traceur id like to say that Assassins Creed does incorporate most of the gameplay around the aspects of parkour, stealth and technique. if u were to run around the city like a normal person, you would never achieve your objective and if u did find a way by ground alone it would take long. so yes it is PARKOUR is mainly used by the Assassin Order to get around by the most effective means necessary. so accept it .

Mirrors edge didn't sell as much as EA thought it would so they canceled the production of number two but due to popular demand restarted the production of a second... it is unclear weather the production is being continued however :P hope this helped, ive been looking at most places officially linked to mirrors edge and most have mixed opinions...
