To say that cap and trade will "destroy" the economy or manufacturing is just plain nonsense. It's more right-wing propaganda. All serious studies of the subject that take an objective approach DO NOT predict the Armageddon-like scenarios. We will not lose 2.5 million jobs in just a few months or even a few years directly attributable to cap and trade. The costs imposed by this legislation, along with rebates and incentives to offset costs, will be quite modest.

Cap and trade is the best market-based approach to cutting emissions. If you have a better idea, I'd like to see it. I mean, businesses get credits, and those that can cut emissions can sell those credits to those that have a harder time. Compared to Kyoto, cap and trade is child's play.

Our wages and prices would increase enough to cover the new tax. Your scenario only works when people are forced to purchase from a taxed source. In the world of international commerce, US goods would be unable to compete with Chinese or Indian goods, which are not subjected to C&T.

I prefer Indias air car, it takes only 3 minutes to compress air into verses 24 hours an electric car so saves much more on energy hands down, it can also go much further in miles between being charged.

Irony of it is that if the US passed the whole cap n trade thing then the US could put preasure on China and all in all reduce the world's emissions by 42 percent.
That is if Good old Dick there wasn't payed millions of dollars by the coal industry in lobbying fees.

Just because it was reported in a blog doesn't mean you should just discount it out of hand. Had you read it carefully you would have seen the information was from a policy brief from the Univ. of Maryland. Not just some bloggers opinion. There are plenty of sources that say China is building 1 - 2 plants a week. Just go to Google and type in... china coal plants per week.... and you will see thousands of links.
So I was correct to say China is building that many plants.

The Kyoto Protocol is an international environmental treaty that aims at stabilization of greenhouse gas emissions, (greenhouse efect, global warming) the contract is set to end in 2.5 years.
In 5 monthes time there will be the biggest conference the world has seen adressing enviromental issues in Copenhagen, and by then it is vital for the next protocol that the US and China seals a deal about their emissions.

Right now China is going "yeah, here's what we can do - but why should we if you're not gonna commit to anything?" Thats why cap n trade is important, if it is passed then we would have the upper hand.

There was a $459 billion deficit when Bush left. Obama and Congress have spent $1.3 trillion to quadruple it to $1.8 trillion. When Obama says he INHERITED a $1.3 trillion deficit, hes lying. $787 billion stimulus, $410 omnibus, $50 billion mortgage plan, and a $3.5 trillion budget that will add $9.1 trillion in new debt by 2019 which will DOUBLE the national debt. Bush added $5 trillion to the national debt in 8 yrs, Obama is set to add $5 trillion in 4 yrs. Is that right-wing propaganda too?
