  • WoW! that is fab - I was a great fan and having now finished watching 'Hustle' I can't believe that was sooo long ago...

  • Jill Ireland was married to David McCallum the time this episode aired.

  • Leo G. Carroll was seen a few years earlier as "Topper".

  • i think it would be fun if they had a man from uncle movie

  • @morgan8757 they did 4 i think.

  • @1kissbee I mean a motion picture

  • @morgan8757 You mean on the big screen? Because what I meant is I think they did 4 tv movies.

  • Was this program supposed to be a comedy or serious? I just do remember this program.

  • At :09 check the shiny brand new 1964 Impala !! Wire wheel covers no less !! :O

  • blakezie@comcast.net,GTZ@hotmail.net

  • Funny how both actors ended up acting these days in each other country of origins...Robert Vaughn, an American acting in UK in Hustle and David McCallum, A Scottish acting in the US in NCIS...

  • Cool..

  • I was an UNCLE agent back then, Solo and Kuryakin were considered loose cannons, nobody liked working with them because they were such dicks.

  • I do like this theme the best, and prefer the psuedo Captain Scarlet shooting scene.

  • OK, U.N.C.L.E. Fans. Here's your chance to be famous! In one of the U.N.C.L.E. novellas T.H.R.U.S.H. has developed its own computer language - T.H.R.O.T.L.

Does anyone remember which # it was in, please? I believe the series ran to 23-24 volumes, although penned by different authors.

  • @HickysBoy Eight!

  • @davidrodgersNJ Wonderful; thank you! I used to have them but lost them along the way.I may still have #23 - I think it was bound differently, somehow? I'll pick some up on eBay. What does the acronym stand for, please?

  • @HickysBoy Hold on, hold on, I was only joking. I really have no idea which episode it was. Sorry if I mislead you.

However, I do know that UNCLE stood for United Network Central Law and Enforcement.

  • @davidrodgersNJ

Sorry David, but UNCLE stood for United Network COMMAND for Law and Enforcement.

  • @maddiesnana1 Oops!

  • T.H.R.U.S.H. COMMUNIQUE'

  • "THE MAN FROM UNCLE. Brought to you by..." (2:18)

  • Oh!! Ilya Kuryakin was my crush!! Loooved Ilya!

  • @Dramliza You know his Russian isn't real. He even pronounces his last name using four syllables, when a real Russian would use only three (Kur' - YA - kin).

  • @50zcarsman Lol, yeah, I know! it made no difference to me back then :)

  • @50zcarsman David Mcallum was scottish and whether his Russian was real or not he did a great job in playing the role of agent lllya Kuryakin we love and miss that show -everytime i thought about Russians back then i think of that cool agent from the man from UNCLE

  • When TV was compelling.

  • @utubemusiccritic : TV's compelling NOW-where have you been the past few years?

  • @Neville6000

The have just as many good shows now as they did back then. The only problem is that they have WAY more trash and garbage now than there was back then.

  • @CSATexan: They had 'trash and garbage' then too-the so-called 'classics Gilligan's Island, I Dream Of Jeannie, Nanny & The Professor, The Flying Nun, Mr. Ed, The Beverley Hillbillies, Gomer Pyle U.S,M.C., Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, Bewitched-all of which killed off great programs like Slattery's People, For The People, Coronet Blue, East Side/West Side, The Trials Of O'Brien, Star Trek, and a ton of others. Your generation of TV shows isn't any better than mine, or anybody else's.

  • @Neville6000 I was watching TV back then and I've never heard of Slattery's People, For The People, Coronet Blue, East Side/West Side, or The Trials Of O'Brien. If those shows were as good as the titles just 'sound', looks like I missed some good TV.

  • @trysometruth: You sure did.

  • @trysometruth, too bad none of those shows are on D.V.D..

  • @vividwatch47

I don't know if you've had a post to your comment, but the episodes are available on DVD. A boxed set of all four seasons was released about three or four years ago. Warner Brothers has just compiled all eight movie releases into a set as well.

Individual episodes or seasons can be purchased and downloaded through Amazon and iTunes.

  • @kitti0702, I was referring to those obscure shows like "Slattery's People", "For The People", "Coromet Blue", "East Side/West Side" and "The Trials Of O'Brien". Those good shows, @trysometruth, are NOT on D.V.D.. Even classics like "The Defenders" and neglected gems like "The Felony Squad" deserve a D.V.D. release.

  • @Neville6000 Nothing wrong with the Beverly Hillbillies OR Green Acres.

  • this was good tv!!!!

  • Quentin Tarrantino was going to do a new UNCLE movie. What happened?

  • @doggsector: It didn't happen, more's the pity. Instead we're going to get a retro fan service fanwank courtesy of Steven Soderbergh set in the '60s and dealing only with Solo & Kuryakin when we should be getting a new Man From U.N.C.L.E. character (one American agent and an Arab agent that would speak to TODAY instead of yesterday.)

  • that's when television had real men

  • Wow, what memories! I used to beg to stay up and watch UNCLE when it first came on. They played it locally at midnight on Friday nights here. Great theme song!

  • Giuoco Piano is the name of an opening in chess! (1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Bc5)

They appear flimsy, campy and lighthearted but perhaps TV shows were actually much smarter back then.

  • @sternumagnum

    some time I play 4.Bxf7+ Kxf7 5.Nxe5 Nxe5 6. Qh5+ Nf6 7.Qd5+ Kf8 8.QxB

  • Do you remember Black and White TV? 1964 how far we have come.

  • I `go and I do` too, usually once a day , lol

  • If my headquarters had those lights in the ceiling constantly blinking, I'd always be putting in for field agent work.

  • man Ducky was real young in 1964!

  • @Marcstang04 actually David Mccallum was in his 30's

  • Thats a 64 Impala SS convertible they get out of

  • Sheer style oozing class!!

  • What's up with the synch?

  • Cosmo TOPPER is the head of U.N.C.L.E. ??

  • @williamg2552 Who the hell is Cosmo Topper???????

  • @littmann03 He's the title role and principal character in "Topper" a TV show based on a 1937 Hollywood movie starring Cary Grant and Constance Bennett as George and Marion Kerby. Roland Young played Cosmo Topper in the film version. That's "who the hell" he is. One question mark indicates a question; what is the point of seven? Haven't you ever used Google, or do you just prefer to parade your ignorance?

  • @Hijodelaisla Not half so much as you like to parade your arrogance.

  • @littmann03 What did I do that was arrogant? Provide you with an answer that you could have found yourself? Do you know what the word means? By the way, what does "not half so much" mean? Are you trying to say "not half as much" but having a little trouble? Poor thing.

  • @Hijodelaisla Carrol's more proximate connection to a show like U.N.C.L.E. is that he played a Ph.d'd section head in another secret organization (presumably CIA) in the famous Hitchcock film, "North by Northwest", starring Cary Grant.

  • Now I see where "Get Smart" probably got its gag about the opening and closing doors.

  • Now how are you going to fly that contraption without a couple of Guest Stars?

  • not a comment more a question , what was the word Napleon or IIya used to open the sliding doors at headquarters

  • @barr161 open channel D

  • If Sean Connery hadn't been picked as James Bond, I doubt the Bond films would have been as uber-cool and spawned so many spy spin-offs? I dread to think of a world without Napoleon Solo!

  • You make a valid point, as far as it goes: "Dr. No" and "Russia" were sufficiently successful to warrant a third Bond film; the enormous success of "Goldfinger" was somewhat unexpected, and managed to keep this show, which had debuted a few months earlier, and not done very well in the ratings, not only afloat, but brought upon it a huge success. Unlike other TV shows that tried to capitalize on the spy-craze, this one was already in production.

  • Season one was the strongest and best season of the show as well as the music score being the best of the four; the subsequent seasons saw the spirit of the show just go down the skids, especially by season three; season four tried to recapture it, but alas by that time it was too late.

  • The production values on this show were typical 1960's. Low budget B.S. Talk about actors walking through a show. Holy shit! This show although having some neato gadgets was crap!!!!!!!!!!

  • @blabblab1212: Well, Season 1 was good; it was the other three seasons that weren't so good.

  • My favorite Jerry Goldsmith score from the 1st year of The Man From UNCLE.

  • The best video quality.....thankyou

  • that's class for you. the 1960's.****
