I really hate how people compare all the Joker actors and try to figure out who's the best. All those actors are from different eras, different storylines and different writer's interpretation. The actors also gave each Joker a different kind of insanity. It isn't fair to compare Ledger's Joker with Jack or Cesar, Heath was like 25 years old or so and it had to be a darker and more psychological version while Jack and Cesar were older and gave us funnier versions, they all deserve respect.

Ledger's was more intense and less prankster than the others, he seemed more on the level of Joker from Brian Azzarello's graphic novel "Joker". But that's as far as live actor's go, overall I still stand by Mark Hamill as the true Joker.

Best joker? Without a doubt in anyone's mind who is a batman fan is Mark Hamill. If u ever read a batman comic, see the joker's pic, or imagines the joker talk or laugh the voice 99% of time will be Mark Hamill's. He so dominated the voice that it was added to the national archives for preservation.

As for live action, Nicholson was closer to the laughing joker of comics/cartoon while Ledger was a homicidal maniac with face paint, Caesar Romero was the joke, take your pick.

Romero played the role of Joker like a cartoon character brought to life. Ledger tried to play it more darker and more profound where insanity is closer to reality. Nicholson played a parody of himself. All three had their quality. I prefer Romero's acting because I know him from childhood on and its hard to match with the original!

I feel like this shows what the Joker would be like, yes, if he was straight out of the comic book. I've not seen the movie with J.N.'s but I hear alot of people say that he was better then Heath.
