  • Nice job! just a quick note for you here, for your heart sake, it's too much salt for that little amount of rice you got there :)

  • @MKhuuNancy

    Thank you for that :)

  • good job!

  • Call Of Duty fish?

  • I notice in your cooking videos, you use really quality looking pots. Could I ask you what brand it is? Thanks.

  • @chefwannabe1

Sure, the brand is All Clad pots.

I can only afford to buy one at a time every few months.

    Someday I will have more.

  • Great video! :) for the best fish sauce look for "3 Crab Fish Sauce (Nuoc Man Nhi) by Viet Huong brand. "Nuoc Mam Nhi" is more expensive but taste better & not salty.

  • @vldang4159

Thank you for that.... I will look for 3 crab fish sauce!

  • good job but why your fish does not look nice. hehe^^

  • Fish sauce bottle you're using is totally wrong ( is it made in China or Thailand?). The real fish sauce never has a dark colour like soya sauce. Just buy fish sauce when you see the lable "made in Vietnam". The flavor is much better.

  • I like your positive personality and reply to the comments. Your cooking is perfect to me. It's easy and quick. Not sure what vietryc meant by his own caramel sauce; you already made in the beginning: water and sugar braised together.

  • @xsweetpeaxs P.S. Other tips for those that aren't fond of the fishy smell, besides garlic, add thin ginger strips, and fresh cracked pepper to the fish before I close the lid to cook. Also, don't stir the fish, they're fragile at high heat, instead let the fish sit in the sauce for 10-15 mins (no heat) and then cook them like you did. Yum! Thank you for sharing! :)

  • @xsweetpeaxs

Thank you sweetpea for all your awesome tips!

  • Is this suppose to be ca kho? I never use fish sauce, actually I never cook with fish sauce because it will smell really bad when it cooks. I only use nuoc mau (carmel sauce that I made), duong (sugar), and a little bit of muoi and tieu(salt and pepper).

Btw in Vietnamese dish when cooking fish you don't want to stir it because it will break the fish

Before people give me shit, my parents owns a restaurant and it's been 15 years. So don't go hating on me saying "I don't know how to cook"

  • Very nice video! Wonderful music to cook it!

  • @punkrevo

    Wow, thanks!

  • just fantastic!

  • @pamuk7

    Wow, thanks!

  • I am so happy I came across your video and this recipe. I had this dish several times at a Restaurant here in Richmond VA, and I've been craving it lately. Unfortunately, the Restaurant closed. Now I can make it at home!! Hurrray! You made my day.

  • Glad to make you happy, and thank you!

  • If I could have only one thing for dinner this evening, it would be this dish you just made.

    Awesome, once again...

  • Thanks you sir!

  • that looks so appetizing, i will try this sometime.

    are you a chef?

because you really are a great cook and a natural

  • I am a home cook.

    Thanks!

  • O.K. Michael..This may be my current FAV right now ;) The rice looks soooo fluffy.

I hope you saved some for Benson

    xx

  • LOL,

    You are so sweet!

Benson is weird... he does not like fish or seafood much.

He will eat salmon seldom or maybe once every 2 weeks.

His fav food so far that I have discovered is liver!

He loves raw chicken livers too!

I guess salmonella is no problem with Benson.

  • Wonderful, I am sharing this with everyone I know....

  • Wow James, it is fun to see what people like.

    Thanks!

  • after you spooned on the fish, i was thinking all it needs is a sprinkle of green onions and cilantro and you got right to it! haha :) you're tutorials are so awesome! thank you~!

  • Two great minds on one thought!

  • that looks great ,

  • Thank you Scent :)

  • if only i could rate more than 5 stars....

  • Thank you Ben!

  • my mom havent made this for months!

wat does ur wife do? are u living in a rich neighborhood lol

  • Chris... :)

I do not have a wife.

My only child is you, well a guy can wish.

    I live in Evansville, Indiana

I am really not rich, I just spend most of my pay on food because I love to eat and share recipes :)

I love all types of food from around the world.

I have only been to Mexico and Thailand.

  • wat is ur next trip to?

  • I don't know what the next trip will be.

Someday I would like to go somewhere in Canada.

  • amazeing recipie

  • Thank you my fav!

  • wow that looks great! fish<3

  • Thanks!

I love most any fish and seafood too!

  • Michael, Im Viet! lol nice dish :)

  • Dustin, that is terrific!

One of the apartments that I lived in... in San Diego; my the family that lived above me were from Vietnam.

They were SO NICE and would cook and give me food from time to time.

I was also friends with the 2 boys ... we were all computer geeks!

I really miss them, now I live in Indiana.

I would also go the the asian grocery store, owned by Vietnamese, it was such a great store and had so many Thai stuff too because Thailand is a close neighbor.

I have been to Thailand 2.

  • I hope that I make it ok.

If you have any criticism or suggestions, tell me!

  • I always find it cool how you turn your hand outwards (supination is the term for it in anatomy) to pour stuff like the 3 T of fish sauce. I'd probably do the opposite, turning my hand inwards.

This looks great, I might have to try this -- do you think tilapia would work okay?

  • OMG tilapia would be PERFECT for this and cost less!

In vietnam they traditionally make it with catfish, but I don't like catfish much anymore.... it seems to always have a muddy taste to me.

I must admit that I am WEIRD and turn my hands and wrists differently LOL

  • Oh and you taught me a new word!

    supination!

  • good job man!!! this is my favorite viet dish 5/5 : )

  • Thanks and are you the one that requested this?

  • I like that, looks very tasty. I hava some n00b question here 1) is it slightly pre cooked fish you put in or raw fish 2) Can I use freshwater fish as well? 3) How about adding some veggies at the end like snow pea and carrot ?

    Regards

  • I love questions!

It was raw fish, and it is suppose to be made with catfish.

I don't really like catfish much anymore.

I honestly say about the carrots and etc, you should use another pan and stir (fry) them up separately because this is such a fast and easy meal to make.

I would stir the carrots and anything else in a hot pan with some garlic and maybe onions and finish with a bit of broth with cornstarch (flour) and maybe a touch of oyster sauce would be nice.

    Hope I helped!

    Thanks again!

  • Sounds very awesome, will do this on sunday Thanks for the add and keep 'em coming :)

  • Thanks, I have a few videos planned to come.

  • i love your dishes

i mean not only the food but the platters too

I will never forget one of your comments ... you said that you "covet" some of my cookware.

    You always make me *smile*!

  • your darn tootin', i am gonna raid your kitchen one day :)

    xoexo

  • I have no plans to stop making videos.
