  • I'm using basswood for this hummingbird, though for most other birds I've used tupelo because it is lighter in weight. Thanks to everyone who commented on my video. The DVD and other aids are available on my web site:

  • What kind of wood is she using?

  • wow you do very good artwork, looks life like too!!

  • where or how can i find your dvd?

  • Here is where the DVD is as well as precut kits with glass eyes and a 17-page brochure detailing how to make the hummer. I also have a 3-day class where we make the completed hummingbird. It isn't an easy project, but so far nobody has failed to make a really beautiful hummingbird in the class. I'm going to be teaching it in Iowa in June at the International Woodcarvers Congress.

  • Oops- I guess we cannot put links in the comments here. Just search Donna Menke and my web site will pop up, then go to the items for sale page.

Or click on my name above and the link is there to the correct page.

  • Donna, you would make a great double reed player. Looks like you could make some good reeds for oboe or bassoon with your carving technique. Thanks for posting. It's fun to watch all the different stages.

  • Thanks for the nice comments,Floyd and Mary. I did the best I could and I'm quite proud of the result. Making the video wasn't easy- it was easier to make the hummingbird! LOL Donna

  • This looks really interesting, Donna.
