Mind you...this is just an opinion of mine...but I don't think "drummers" like Jordison or that Stink-182 dude are worthy of wiping Peart's ass. I also found Bonham, Moon and Palmer to be incredibly random and nowhere near as musical ar Peart. Portnoy either. I'm sorry: Using blasts and double-kick all the time does NOT a good song make.
Peart is a consistent musician and versed in countless styles. Moon, Bonham, Palmer and even Paice were great, no doubt, but limited to their own style. The whole world recognizes that.
@sbrushfan I think Peart is the product of guys like Moon and Bonham and Starr as well as Blakey and Rich. Portnoy is an imitator and those tattooed guys are wishfully thinking.
Actually in response to ironledtallicafloyd, it is from the Show of Hands DVD which comes with Rush Replay X 3 which I have, excellent stuff. BTW love your username. It would make for an excellent band name.
well... just my opinion here.. im a drummer, not awsome but im decent... and the more drums u have gives you more of a variety... each is at a different pitch... if you have a standard set it can get monotonous... i love watchin neil play he's amazing... but seriously he doesn't just have a big set because he's rich... he apparently likes the sounds he can make when he puts them all together... i know i do! lol my hat is off to you Mr. Peart... do u give free lessons! lol jkjk!

dude me and my friend are having an arguement. one why does this guy have to have so many drums. and 2... BUDDY RICH can kick Niel Pearts ass with a standard trap set
I personaly think that if he didnt have to have all those drums and just play a standard trapset, he could do better. I honestly think having all those drums is just a dumb. Its to showy.

i mean its not DUMB , as in it sucks. ive seen guys with drumsets prolly bigger than this. But what i hear from most kids now days is that you have to have all those drums to be a great drummer. I honestly think that means ur just rich hahaha. Idk what this has to do with the subject, but i wonder why people think that
More drums, the further you can add depth to the sound. And Clix411, you are right about not needing a lot of drums to rock. Take buddy rich for instance. That guy can do anything with a fraction of what neil has.
Hell, you can buy this vid, plus three other concerts, on DVD at Fututre Shop. So don't no kidding when this is posted as a "rare" video. (I know 'cause I was one of the few real fans who bought the set... ;P)
Well I will have to look through my tickets to find the year , but i know for sure this was the last Rush Tour I saw , not that it was this exact show.
god bless the fuckin truth!!!!! john was and always will be the greatest rock drummer EVER!!! neil is 2nd best and i've always said that. not to insult neil because no drummer can compare to he and bonzo.
You must have the taste of shit in your mouth. Maybe you can get out of your hole for a little while and check out what Neil's been doing lately... besides if you knew anything about RUSH's music you might know that 4/4 is only a single time signature in their music arsenal.
My comment wasn't aimed at Peart. I recall commenting on someone else .. I don't know why this particular one showed up here. I've been a vocal advocate and true-blue fan for decades. I don't know how this comment showed up here.
rush gives Canadians a bad name....hmmm....well either youre really high on some ultra potent shit, or you were just released from a mental hospital, or both.
the reason they held off an extra beat is because Neil threw up his stick, and didn't catch it in time to come in on the downbeat. Doesn't really matter, as long as he and Geddy come in together, Alex is just sustaining a note anyway.
cool

The more drums you have, the more depth you can put into a song/solo.
That is, if you use them. =p

I've always wanted to find some footage of Neil's YYZ solo from ESL. Haven't been able it down. He's great nonetheless
analogkid13 3 years ago
It's cruel that on the ESL video they show him playing in slow motion while a recording of his solo is playing. Surely footage has to exist.
