I have owned several Boss Gt units , GT 5 , 6 , 8 etc , i now have the GT3 and i think it sounds the best of all the GT units , it may not have all the bells & whistles , but i'm not a huge effect user , but it just seems to sound and feel warmer and more realistic to my ears ........

@believin13 @believin13 Yeah, I was majorly bummed out. I tweaked the living crap out of it and ended up turning off the preamp off the GT-8 and only use it's effects, and using my Peavey 6505+'s distortion instead. If I was looking into amp modeling, I would look into AXE FX Ultra.

Marty is getting better than he was.....but he has to make brain space in order to do it! Some sacrifices are necessary. First it was the "shoes taste" brain center, then off he went with the "clothes taste" center and finally the "never put hair spray" center....

In 20 years he will probably re-invent the guitar...wearing armor,hats with feathers and coconut trousers....

Have you tried not cranking the gain all the way up??? Sometimes the chunky factor appears with moderate gain. And of course the kind of amp is crucial.

GT-8 distortions are buzzy and fizzy. Im not a big fan of Zoom, either, but oddly enough they made a mistake and made a great modeler in the G9...no fizziness. Killer. Takes a lot of tweaking, though.

I own this pedal I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. Opeth usues it now too it has every boss pedal inside and is just freakin amazing. Hsa a 5150 Lead preset that sounds just like eddie van halen. The best distortion I've found so far on it has to be the Overdrive/Dst Type Turbo OD with no Preamp on. The Rat Lead is killer too. has  Guitar Synth backwards echo eveything you could ever want and s*** loads more. No I don't work for the company lol

He uses mainly alternaitve picking also known as economy picking, I think his picking hand looks more relaxed than half of the players out there and is one of the most unique and it works wonderfully. Probably could be because he's always been an economy picker and most of us learn that later on.

Must say it does sound very impressive to me. Not really a fair demo as Marty is a guitar god and could make just about anything sound amazing. The guy knows his stuff, if you're relying on effects to make you sound good then give up now. Hendrix use a fair amount of Wah, and a variety of other effects, like in all along the watchtower

Slash AND Zakk Wylde over abuse the wah

Buckethead uses an infinite list of effects

Paul Gilbert uses flange on occassion

Carlos Santana uses flange HEAVILY in a few songs

Just because someone uses effects doesn't mean they suck

And no I DON'T use effects heavily just pointing that out.

Well i don't know what you were doing with it then chadgarland.

I've had mine for about a year and half and its great. Once you learn how to use it, you can really get any sound you want out of it. If that is truly playing through the PA then imagine how much better it would have sounded if you were actually there!

i have a gt-10 and i was worried about getting that digital sound too but i fiddled around with the pre-amp and it sounds great. its also a plus to have the best over drive and distortion pedals programmed right on there but try to get a good tone without touching the distortion first to get a good tone.
