I used to have "Slaughter On 10th Avenue" but I let a friend borrow which he never returned. Damn thief ! I would like to listen to it about right now. I did like the album, and I love Ronson's playing. He had flair with flash, dramatic's and style ! R.I.P. Mick !
I live blocks from Berklee School of Music=daily churns out players who could technically "destroy" Mick (&..remember in those pre-VanHalen speeddemon days.. guys like Zappa etc could play circles around him quantity-wise & pallete-wise) but..just like Paul Kossoff=wrote simple killer riff 2 All Right Now in his teensthat lives forever..Mick had incredible taste, his playing less is so much more. so lyrical & tells a story w/his instrument &..just like a singer.. his held notes & vibrato kill me
@milolovesmusic =Uwere blessed to have shared time with one of the greats...& while it is not required that great artists be also lovely, down to earth people w/the gift of humility (I can still like an artist's work even if they were a personal nightmare) but it adds to the joy of experiencing their evocative, touching work to feel that the "heart" in their work emanated from a real non-flawless but seemingly deep & soulful person. Same w/ say Geo. Harrison.Lovely version of pedestrian original
...such a quiet genius, when so much was going on around him.He left his mark *with Hunter,Reed and especially David Bowie. Why he hasnt paid him the proper credit is beyond me...."C,mon Bowie"
There would be no Bowie without this guy."And you know this".
get a copy of slaughter put it on at max volume that your ystem can handle and drift away. In my opinion best rock instramental ever. He also was a genuinely nice guy, That comes from experience but that is personal
@jacknuts22 - re: 'You people are goofy.... This is one of the worst piles of shit I have ever heard'. Lol, I guess your comment is a good example of that old saying 'one man's meat is another man's poison'.
Mick Was the Backbone of The Bowie sound in the Ziggy Era, I go back and listen even now and am even more amazed! Especially Ziggy, Mans Who Sold The World and Hunky Dory! He's handsome and also had a great stage presence that really kind of intimidated Bowie. It great he went with Ian Hunter after Bowie disbanded the Spiders. I have Slaughter on 10th Ave. and Play Dont Worry and Heaven and Hull. I miss him!!!
As a fan of Bowie's from the beginning I became aware of the great guitarist he had with Mick Ronson. Needless to say when he recorded his solo album I ran to get it, not to be disappointed either. It had tasty tidbits like this song and others just teasing us with his abilities. The world lost another great guitarist they day Mick passed away, may he rest in peace.
Everyone just wants to fly through the frets now, but it's wicked to hear the note by note of a real talent. We had some excellent music in the '70s...Glad I grew up then:)
@BagmanBarney1............you are right, it seems to some that is speed that rules, but it what each and every note can sing/do! Some have mastered the technique of making less sound like a lot more like Mick could. David Gilmour is another one that comes to mind that does the very same thing!!
Indeed. Mick's wife said he was born with that extra something. Would liked to of seen The Rats back in the sixties but too young. He arranged a lot of David Bowie's songs and deserves a higher profile.
Yeh, Mick was a very talented musician and arranger. He could play most stringed instruments but I'm so glad that he chose the guitar! That riff on Moonage Daydream, which I've heard literally hundreds of times, makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck! Don't think that Mick ever got enough credit for what he did for Bowie.
I wish there were a few more guitarists like him around. Such a great guitar player.
