i propose that the smokeout location be changed from year to year, forcing people close to the location to ride farther and vice versa and making everyone check out new scenery and if the location (>?) has a problem with something they can't pass a law the next year cuz it won't be there again ! just thinking
All events become too big because people tell their friends "Hey, I went to this kick ass rally...you gotta go next year" and so on. Just the nature of the beast.
I only live 40min from The Rock so hopefully I'll make it again for XI.
Please tell your friend that I am in lust with that bike! I was so impressed with his use of unusual pieces in his fabrication - love the jar and nut on the tank, and am curious where he got those wonderful glass and brass "jars" for the oil. The bike shows an incredible amount of creativity.
ehh, seems anymore to be as big & bloated and money driven as any of the other regional type events complete with the weekend dykes, wannabe moto celebs in there mad hatter & other sundry costumes, and requisite bikes with blowup dolls for more of the look at me effect.. a sea of price gouging vendors . sad really , the purity is gone. just one more like the other one .
no doubt eclecticdawn , it's about seeing the old friends & making new, and you did a fine job with this clip. but honestly, i dont believe there is one soul who has been to all of the smoke outs who will argue that is no longer what it was , & once prided itself as being.
I hear ya, steve, I would have loved to have gone to the earlier smoke outs, but I didn't even find out about the event until a few years ago. It's not the first time I've heard that it has changed a lot, and I completely understand what you mean when you say "the purity is gone". You also gotta sift through the posers to get to the real shade-tree mechanics and builders. I'll still go again, just for the bikes...

I guess it's all a matter of perception. We had fun seeing old friends, making new ones, and checking out all the bikes.

I checked out your page, and I hope you do get to attend next year, as I'm sure you'd appreciate the work that goes into all those bikes.
