that is not a gasser! you need to wait a lot longer and when its really cold, you cycle the plugs twice. it sounds like either the batterys are dying, or it was converted to 12 volt.
@ultaMMA Nope, it's just ice and snow frozen on. And the paint is military CARC 383, 3-color camo, flat paint, which tends to make ice and snow cling more.
I'm suprised you managed to get it started with out messing up the starter...try cranking the first time for a couple of seconds then cutting off, wait 2-4 seconds, turn back on and cranking again. This way you don't continuosly kill the starter. Just my $.02
I have a 1984 Chevy Blazier Diesel with 80,xxx miles on it. GREAT CONDITION. NO RUST. Needs a throttle body. Was used for a police vehicle in Moundsville, WV. Message me if you're interested!
SWEET!! My dad has the military version Blazer! We stuffed a 468 ci big block and put a 16 inch lift with 38 inch tires. Not to mention a nasty cam and 3 inch pipes. Its a hot rod and an off road truck. Loads of fun VERY TOUGH!!
16 inches of lift? Did you mean 6 inches? I'm gonna run a 6 inch Rough Country lift and more than likely run 40s. I can run 35s as it sits with no lift at all.
ok, thanks you're right. it's -15C here, but thats just summer temperature here in finland :D no just kidding but the winter is coming and im gettin pissed. Normally at winter it's -25C in here and thats fuckin cold.
And last month -30C degrees almost every **cking morning...and 6,2diesel still running just "fine"...It was bit hard to find arctic diesel in southern Finland... (-30C = -22F)
whats the best make and supplier for a 6.2 geared starter motor. mine eats them like buiscuits. is a block heater any use? mine would not go at 20'c with jump leads to my van...... ta -steve ps should the heater plug dash lamp come on with the engine running?????????!!!!
1) I used a cheap 12v gear reduction starter I bought on ebay for $110, no core charge. 2) block heaters are for girls and 3) if I start her with only a few seconds of glow plug the light will stay on with the engine running, it's probably on a timer
That is amazing. Absolutely NONE of the blazer diesels I drove of this vintage in the military started half as well as this truck, regardless of the outside temp. Hell, we had one that wouldn't start below +40F without ether, and the glow plugs were working fine. And all of the trucks were only 2-4 years old. Now the hummers were a completely different story. They always were dependable.

@MCPObr44 His other video says it was converted to 12 volt... Bypassing the automatic glow plug controller is probably a better thing altogether.

what kind of glow plugs do you use, and I didn't see one, but I assume you use a block heater?

ether is a good way to melt the glow plugs and make them a pain to change

Was your fast idle not working? My M1009 idles up to 1200 rpms when cold to warm up the engine.

I have a 84 M1009 that i bought for $900. I only put new batteries in it and with a quick shot of ether (below 30F) she fires right up!
GeorgeM1009 3 years ago
NEVER use ether on a diesel. Unless you want to rebuild your engine soon!
Catalina65389 3 years ago 3
If you KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING, either is a good way to start a cold diesel that otherwise wouldn't start.
bigchevy80 2 years ago
ether is like heroin, you do it once and you can't help but keep going back to it till you're all done
