@HalflingShireFolk 904L Stainless steel is harder than most brush bristles. It isn't a wire brush he is using. I use a nylon bristled childs tothbrush for mine. Bought for the express purpose of cleaning my watches. It has never seen toothpaste :D!
I clean mine by spraying it with Viakal, a stainless steel cleaner, brushing it with a washing up or nail brush and rinse. Do this a couple of times until the rinsing water is clean. Be sure of course, to ensure that the crown is screwed down fully. To clean scratches off the glass, I use Solvol Autosol, a compound chrome cleaner.
@solomon99990 I like seeing Rolex watches. "How do I clean my watch?" is probably one of the most common questions among new watch owners. The video answers it perfectly. I would think he would have opted for a more blingy model if showing off was his bag.
Rolex watches have actually been boiled for extended periods of time without any negative effects. Expanding and contracting the rubber gaskets and o-rings with repeated heating can't be a good thing longterm though....that's how they generally deteriorate in other machines.
Rolex's are SO overpriced for what you get. Omega's are JUST AS GOOD. Omega's are still a very expensive watch but not ridculously over-priced like Rolex's are. Rolex's ARE NOT HAND MADE like everyone thinks they are. Rolex puts out about a million watches a year. Wake up people! Is a Rolex an awesome watch?...yes. Is a Rolex worth 30-40% more than an Omega?...absolutely not. I'll take a Planet Ocean over a Sea-Dweller any day!
@hightechjunkieva - Omega put out the same number as Rolex each year. Both are mass produced compared to watches like Lange or Patek Phillipe. If you want hand-made, you have to pay big money for it...

ahh, nevermind... it must of been an optical illusion. also you might get better results if you take off the bracelet. congrats on a great watch! I can't wait to get my explorer II
I would not recommend using HOT water. More like warm. Hot water expands the seals and in time weakens them so water proofing may become an issue in time.
Just take it in the shower with you and rub it down with your body soap.
Never immerse your Rolex in hot water. The heat causes the small amounts of oil used in the movement to creep away. This sort of thing will hasten the need for a servicing of the watch. Instead use an old toothbrush with warm water to brush away the perspiration salts and oils. Use a product like Dawn dish detergent.
my private watch polisher does the same with my rolex
just kidding, gimme a break im 14!

never submerge your watch in soapy water, soap cleans because it breaks down the surface tension of water.this could allow it to seep into your watch.

do u happen to know how clean a watch that is stainless steel but the straps are leather?
martin111mv 6 months ago
@martin111mv You just remove the band. The stainless is fine in the water, use a mild leather cleaner/conditioner on the band.
