  • De de de de de de de, de de de de de..

Killer sound track for the commute my man.

  • I can totally relate. This is my world. Seems a little speeded up. Is it? Is it an optical illusion or is this guy insane... Actually, I tend to go fast, also, but not this fast... I've been hit a bunch of times. This guy's about to get it. I know a guy who got hit recently and he lost everything cause he did not have health insurance. I lives with his parents now, perhaps forever....

  • Though this video looks scary, I can tell you that it's actually substantially easier to travel in traffic like this than it is to travel in traffic that's a bit lighter. When you're going as fast or faster than all the cars, and you don't have to ride right by the parking lane, there's much less chance of injury. The position of the camera also makes the gaps look smaller and the close calls closer. I'd say the riskiest part is at 3:37 where he reaches down to re-position the camera.

  • Still, nice riding, and probably not something I'd do on a fixie, but I just feel weird riding without hand brakes.

Also, to the guy who commented earlier about pedestrians: It's clear from the handling that he spotted them a mile away, and avoided them easily. Don't talk shit if you don't know what you're talking about.

  • wished i lived in ny. la is nothing like this

  • Excellent video. Scary. I ride my bike in traffic, but nothing like yours. Great stuff.

  • you sir, are a certified badass. I thought allston was rough. on a 6 speed. with brakes.

  • I hate the close calls, you are lucky no doors were opened in front of you!

    Ay Caramba!

  • By the way, Great Vid.

  • I see a lunatic with utter disregard for his own life, and more to the point, those of the pedestrians he manages (just) to avoid. American and male? What else?

  • And judging by your post I can tell you're ignorant and a xenophobe. Don't throw around insults and keep your narrow mindedness to yourself.

  • do you have any idea what its like trying to cycle in a big city? least of all NYC

  • By his shadow, it looks like he's wearing a helmet. I don't even do that. Most of my ride is through Brooklyn though and over the bridge.

  • New York has a few trees. Great riding too. Some of those gaps.. Do you have the narrow racing steering wheel?

  • Do you end up on 27th? Looks so damn familiar.

  • the difference between a video game and your life is there is no restart button. demand bike lanes now

  • Wow, I do not have the balls for that... my daily commute is on dedicated paths and ten-foot wide bike lanes (Tucson rules!). Great video!

  • What Salvia02390!?!?!? Thats the best part of fixed gear in town. It gets the blood flowing... Makes you feel alive!!!!

  • Sweet vid, dude. Looks like you really get cooking along in some places. Just got a helmet cam and I videoed my commute this morning. Not as tight as yours, but still fun! Cheers!

  • Just watching that makes me feel anxious,

we need to adopt special paths off the street like in Germany

  • great riding and amazing song

  • What song is this?

  • Tone Bank Jungle by Holy Fuck.

  • What song is this?

  • So is NYC some kind of Mecca for road cycling? Do you hold records and contests somethimes?

  • song-Tonebank Jungle by holy fuck good song good vid.

  • sweet. tight as fuck at times which kicks ass. i get the urge to jump on my bike right now watching this. great tune to keep the pace too. not too crazy about fixies though.

  • Nice vid there big guy...

  • nice ride.

  • The problem with Park Ave is all those double parked trucks in the morning on the right hand lane.

And youre right about Madison Ave. But I ride on that white line, which is relatively smooth.

  • The West side is better though, and will always be fastest. Going uptown Hudson St/8th Avenue is the fastest. I did Houston St to 34th in about 8 minutes. I ride a fix so you can only go so fast, but I was really pumping it and just got lucky with lights/traffic.

Going downtown on the west side 7th/9th avenue are the fastest. Broadway too even though Broadway is "west" until 23rd st.

  • Lexington Ave is kinda quick, but i'd rather use Park Ave (straight through the Grand Central viaduct baby!!!)or cut to 5th Ave if I'm heading down and wanna stay east.

Madison avenue is shitty since it needs to be paved. If I wanna head uptown on the east side I'll take Park or 3rd Ave. 3rd Ave is way fast.

  • To go uptown or downtown I ride on the east side either on Madison or Lexington Ave depending on which direction I'm headed. I use up the wide bus lanes where no other vehicles are allowed. I fly on my roadie!

To go east or west I again take the bus lane on one of the big two way streets, such as 42nd. I do split lanes at times to cut time.

  • Looks thrilling as hell. Thanks for going through times square. I could watch traffic dodging for hours. No where near as fun as doing it though ^^

  • looks like a serious case of messenger envy.

  • sick video dude, i like how you fastforward the stops instead of cutting away.

  • i enjoyed that

  • i could made the same vid and said it was a fixie.. everyone would go like ''oh man thats way cool'' and stuff - if i had said it was on a old ladie bike it would have been somthing different...

  • fun video, I know the feeling all too well

  • Wouldn't it be easier and safer to go out west first and then downtown instead of going through Times Square and all that crap?

  • safer and slower. bway to 7th ave tapers to the west side and saves time / the lights are synced better than any other ave...

  • Yes! Show those cars who's boss!

  • Lol, whos the boss when you crash?=) Not the cyclist... :P

  • no risk no fun ;)

  • nice video, decent pace. you made a lot of questionable moves with lane selection and splitting though.

  • I ride to work in NYC all the time. It's actually safer to ride in traffic like this then to ride on the shoulder. If you've ever been doored or hit a pedestrian darting out from the sidewalk you know what I mean.

  • I perfer my weekend downhill tour - less traffic ;-)

  • Shows just how much quicker bicycles are than cars in built up urban environments. I can't imagine how much longer the same journey would be by car.

  • bikething[dot]org

    Check it out. Great vid.

  • All for the lane splitting, esp when the cars are at stand still.

  • nice video, except for the lane splitting. youll be dead within a year. sad.

  • I will post this at iamelephant dot com...effing rad, great music, makes its point wonderfully...let's get you from 13K views to 130K by January 1!

  • I love it! You are just humiliating people in cars... awesome.

  • Nice, just seems a longer commute while watching on film. Chelsea is a cool area.

  • Pretty rad video. I ride like you do in Buffalo, NY. Not on a fixy but on a roadie. Either way, there arent half as many vehicles in Buffalo as there are in NYC however, I bet more vehicles are aware of you. Either way, keep kicking ass.

  • Is that a recording studio or a gallery in Chelsea that you end up at?

  • the building you see on the left is a recording studio... i work in the next building down.

  • Nice video. Very inspiring.

  • hey Jermsy, nice vid... what's the name of the track?

  • holy shit thats a lot of taxicabs!!!

  • Hell of a ride ya got there...

    nicely done too.

  • I put it on Bike Lane Diary. Ride on!

  • awesome, thanks!

  • Nice video, where did you mount the camera?

  • probably you're riding fixed gear but do you ride with click pedals, pedals with straps or just platforms? Nice song btw, who is it?

  • my bad, a fixie it is...

  • i ride with clipless pedals (shoes with cleats that lock in, etc). i've been riding with them so long that i could never go back to clips and straps. the song is Tonebank Jungle by Holy Fuck.

  • Rather more interesting than my commute as regards traffic conditions anyway. What's it like in the winter?

  • i have yet to find out about the winter commute, i just moved here in may. i have also since moved to brooklyn, and although i still ride to work, it isn't nearly as exciting.

  • wow that looks fun.

  • whew! you made it!
