  • Great footage of a fine young wrestlerGino Hernandez!

  • Gino was such a great heel. He had that whole super-cocky thing happening. Unfortunately, he had that whole drug addiction/excessive lifestyle thing happening too. Another young wrestler taken out of the game too soon.

  • expected a great future for gino.

  • That sure was Piper being his classic heel self while alongside the late Gordon Solie! What a neat good matchup that was between Armstrong and the late Gino Hernandez. I don't think I have seen any matches with Gino in action before although I have read and heard a lot about him. I understand he died somehow, but I have forgotten the details about it. Nice video!

  • Damn, Brad Armstrong in his early days - looked awesome!

  • Cool to hear Roddy doing color with Gordon...

  • What made Gino such a great heel was he would try his hardest to annoy you and agitate you until you would give up and buy a ticket to see him get his ass kicked. The only guys that compare or come close to Gino's level of heeldom today are Rock, CM Punk, Jericho and Miz. RIP Halfbreed.

  • fanfreakintastic!

  • Its a shame that Hernandez had to become another casualty. Tully Blanchard once said in an interview that he tried to get Gino to come to Crockett and if he had he probably would have been somehow involved in the Horsemen.

  • Gary Hart in a shoot with RF said he had a verbal agreement with Crockett in late 85 to come to JCP with Chris and Gino before Gino died.

  • Now that is something I never heard. I said it would have been interesting to see how Gino would have interacted with the Horsemen, but it would have even been more fun to see Gino and Chris feuding with the Rock and Roll Express, Dusty and Magnum and the other top babyfaces in Crockett.

  • @Sargebri In his shoot, Chris Adams confirmed Gary's story but he said Gino wanted to go to New York because Ernie Ladd who was a booker for Vince called him up.

  • I think this was my first time too.

  • Awesome! I remember this like it was yesterday. I wish Gino would have became a regular on GCW.

  • WOW, What Memories!! Cable TV hadn't been in North Carolina for too long when I saw this. No one knew who this Gino Hernandez was, I thought that Brad Armstrong was going to win this one until Gino surprised everyone. I always wondered why he didn't stay in Georgia. Wrestling lost a truly great star. RIP Mr. Charles Wolfe.

  • Great post! I remember seeing this when it happened. No one knew who Gino was except me (in Georgia anyway). I always thought Gino would have been one of the greatest ever. One of my favorite wrestling memories came later when Gino brought a bottle of champagne to Roddy Piper to celebrate his, as he said, gorgeousness. Classic. RIP to the Handsome Half breed.

  • @Darkchyld702 I knew Gino from the Apter mags as well when he came to Georgia but was this his first match ?

He also had a match against Mike Davis and the heels came out and rooted for Gino and the faces for Davis, Gino won the match. Do you remember if the Armstrong match was before the Davis match ?

  • Wow great seeing Gino with Hot Rod on TBS. Two of the greatest heels in wrestling history! RIP Gino

  • Gino is one of my two favs, and Piper has a heel announcer is an added bonus!
