@nurikara - "Totally stoned"? Um, no. Why can't they just enjoy the work they get to do, and each others' company - that's how it seems to me. What, you've never laughed or had fun without getting high or drunk first? That's a pretty sad existence, literally.
Patti is freakin gorgeous, looks, voice, all that.. I saw her on the Wayne Brady show and she's so gorgeous and lovely and has an extreme talent...just like Lena Horne. The people in that room aided in MJ's career. These people aren't into looks and hype and all the standards. they about making good music and getting paid like a mutha fucka without cosmetic changes and bullshit.
Wow! Why couldn't I have been around in those years? That's when they used to make REAL music using actual mixing boards in the recording studio. Artists used to put more effort into making their music back in those days. Nowadays artists use Apple computers to mix songs and voice enhancing software to enhance their voice. What the hell can a computer do compared to a real mixing board?
To the people saying Patti Austin is ugly, I don't see what's so ugly about her. She's clearly a beautiful woman. She has beautiful flawless skin, a beautiful complexion, and her eyes are stunning. She still looks good today!
The ignorance of talking about Patti Austin's looks...she's beautiful, has the voice of ten angels, and that voice will take you to places of love heretofore you couldn't even imagine
Harrison Board,, Bruce Sweiden, Q's engineer took it i believe. and used a pair of 3m m79 analog 2inch 24 track and later the studer A800 2 inch 24 track then later on a thin sounding digital mitsubishi x-880 digital 1 inch 32 track recorder.
@dhampex 'dont stop till you get enough' stands out to me as one of the best recorded masters. as soon as dat arrived, everything began to sound thinner. i'm using a tlaudio phat track to bus out my protools/logic and record it back in. sounds way better than 'in the box' but i can tell you from experience nothing beats mastering to two inch tape (though a big fat analogue board :-) On a top track i produced, we couldnt get anything near what we wanted, so we mastered the piano onto SVHS hi-fi
@russhurley Yeah I agree when dat, Dash mastering and early Hard disc came about, it had a thinner sound. Yes i agree 2 inch sounds the best. If you get a chance check out "endless analog.com" Trust me, you'll like the device if you love analog like i do.
@dhampex COOL IDEA - thought about that before. why can't someone do it in USB form - a 2' mini tape drum with digital i/o (or ASIO direct i/o) - surely that would do it! In the mean time, i would recommend anyone interested in tape go down to their local cash-converters and grab a half-decent hi-fi tape deck. Sure, you'll get sub-standard (for studio anyway) wow, flutter, and s/n ratios, but the more you drive the in, the PHATTER the sound. Forget 12bit sampling - try hifi tape :-)
@russhurley ,, yeah or have that option to use usb and firewire,, well this is kinda new in the market and the maker "chris estes" is open to new ideas. His goal is to keep the sound of tape in the market plus make it easy without doing the traditional way of recording and dump off in protools. Yeah i have 2 mci jh 24/24 and they a-wait for this device. Saving my transport, money, need only 1 reel and less hassle. sometimes i use my tascam 244 porta for projects LOL!!!

Poor Pattie was overweight and not very good looking so she was trying to make herself appealing with her personality. It just doesn't work, cuz you can tell it's a forced effort. You can tell she was uncomfortable with herself and was trying hard to break out of it. Unfortunately, she didn't even have ONE hit off her '81 album that Quincy produced for her.
wilsondylanmccartney: To say that Patti was "not very good looking" is grossly unfair. She has the prettiest hazel eyes and a very nice smile. Saying she was probably forcing it here because of her weight was probably closer to the target. She's lost a lot of the weight since then and still has an outrageous personality. Because she didn't have a "hit" from the joint Q did with her in 81 doesn't mean it wasn't good. Her 84 self-titled album is my favorite, which includes this song. Lighten up!
When you can sing like Patti Austin WHO THE FUCK CARES WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE!!! She's AWESOME! And she's also quite attractive now as she's lost all that weight but she always had those beautiful green eyes.
osvaldoe: Amen! Patti Austin has one of the dreamiest voices ever. It's her talent first and foremost. Right on, osvaldoe. "Who the fuck cares what you look like?!" True words!
The song is titled ''Gonna Be Special'' from the movie soundtrack ''Two of a Kind'' starring Olivia Newton John and John Travolta. Classic 1984. Patti Austin can sing her butt off.
These wonderful people are ALL pros. There having fun! That's how you get good results from your team. Producing a record in front of cameras is not easy thing. I have the most respect for "Q" and Patti!!!!
