  • Keep an ice cube nearby.

  • I guess he mean nail polish remover

  • lord of war! thanks for the tip man!

  • To break superglue, put it in a freezer and freeze it or use fingernail remover.

  • @RayetWolf lol i dont think theres any such thing as a finger nail remover

  • LOL--a match made in modeling heaven. :)) Great tip. Thank you. I'm going to use this to fill a few holes on a kit I purchased.

  • Tom, I noticed you use a lot of just plain crazy glue or super glue. Is that what you mainly work with? Do you ever use any model glues of any kind?

  • Mostly. I have an assortment of other glues inc. testors' plastic cement, regular rubber cement, white glue, gorilla glue and a few others. But the CA is just awful convenient and fast. While plastic cement will weld plastic toegether, if i wanna take the model apart down the road, CA is the way to go. And if one falls and breaks, I would rather have it break on a seam than anywhere else. (That's why I don't usually pin my resin models. )

  • very cool i have done thiswith baby powder. baby powder does not get hot though. Thanks for posting this

  • I'll keep that in mind. Like johnsons and johnsons baby powder? I'm not up on my baby-paraphenalia so don't know that market segment very well.

  • @ModelManTom LMAO i am supposing any will work fine. The plain ones might be the best bet sence they are closer to pure talc than ones with fragrance or aloe additaves.

  • So sodium bicarbonate is a catalist?

  • The baking soda acts like accelerator. Try to dust the joint and use thin CA if you don't want build up. You can also dye the soda with alcohol dyes and let the soda dry out and use it with CA to color fill. You should have some acetone or nail polish remover around when using CA to unglue your fingers with.

  • Prying glued fingers aprat is half the fun! :D

Thanks for those tips! Another year of practice and I should be damn good with the technique.

  • The use of baking soda and CA has been a quick fix for years to repair a too deep slot in a guitar nut. We use CA a lot in guitar building, Lutherie, for repairing cracked sides ,Inlay and gluing bindings to mention a few.

  • Cool to know. I'm a bassist myself, so you've got my subscription.

  • Lord of War in the background, eh?

  • Sounds right.

  • Thanks for uploading this video. I would never have thought of using baking soda as a filler....until now.

  • I had to come back and let you know, i gave this a try last nite and WOW works like a champ. had a big ugly gap on a mold line gave this a try, and i will never use anything eles. THANKS this saved my hive.

  • @pmoon72 I have gorilla super glue, if I use this with baking soda, will this improve the weld, or glue performance ? Why does it get so hot with the baking powder and the super glue.? I do not understand

    from kregg

  • @kregg123 Whatever it is about those chemicals, they produce an exothermal reaction, getting quite hot and localized.

  • I've heard about this trick several times. I'm glad I finally tried it! Just be careful with your skin and file it right away. After an hour or so, it supposedly goes from simply rock-hard to impervious-never-file-or-sand-it-again-steel.

  • WOWW !!! thanks for the tip

  • Man thats nifty!
