  • Excellent!!!

  • NOOO FUCK THIS RHE N&W J CLASS 611 IS THE BEST LOOKING. Dont believe me? Look it up. 611 is also way faster

  • Saw 3801 in Singleton in '88...beautiful...

  • 3801 is a magnificent locomotive

  • Best looking locos in my opinion are the Great Western Castles.

  • nope. either the black prince or 4449 daytime

  • Best looking steam train? Although I like this loco that is debatable

  • The best looking steam engine, in my opinion, is the streamlined Gresley A4 Pacific.

  • @sparkygl0s Have to agree. For Aussie read American. In the US they built them for power, not looks.

  • Best looking.........your got to be joking,,,,,A good engine no doubt, but come on thats a big call,, But well 24571 hits you know how to stir up some interest.....MMMmmm my best looking loco (steam).........GWR Castle class.....and I,m an Aussie.

  • Ever seen an A4 or an Unrebuilt Bulleid Pacific? Didn't think so

  • THE DUKE RULES

  • Duke of Gloucester for me. I rest my case

  • IM sorry the best steam loco ever made is the manchest and liverpool LION :D

  • a4 pacific one of the best looking, nice vid thanks

  • its got a face like its lost a tenner!

  • you are all wrong the best looking steam locomotive by intrest is the duchesses. I'm nota big fan of LMS but just look at them

  • bollocks, british steam is the best

  • They look very Germanic - like the huge locos used by Deutsche Reichsbahn.

  • Booooo! A1 60163 Tornado, should of been!

  • I was hoping it would be a Southern railway battle of Britain class, obviuosly not...

  • I wouldn't say that it was the best looking engine as there are GWR Kings, but by 'eck it sound amazing and looks it aswell

  • Best looking steam train???? Dream on. Obviuosly not seen TORNADO.

  • @pushertug Can quite agree there. British designs are the best. Always will be.

  • Or hundreds of other British types, all better looking.

  • you've obviuosly not seen a GWR king ;)

  • @pushertug ur british right?

  • flying scotsman is the best

  • lol, Not exactly sleek. Check out the original silverlink Gresley A4s

  • that is the worst looking green blob of a steam engine ever made!

  • they maybe ozzy trains but probably made in the uk

  • @cuza1989 - Nope, 3801 was made by Clyde Engineering, while 3830 was built in-house by the NSWGR at their Chullora Workshops, unless I'm mistaken.

  • that is one ugly green blob, look up PRR k4 in Tyrone

    great engine

  • The big blue Skoda from the Czech Republic is an even better looking beastie!

  • Yes the mallard is an A4 class locomotive. you can still see other A4 trains running such as `The Union of South Africa.

  • i would agree but the A3s and A4s look better(ps the A4 still holds the worlds fastest steam train record of 126.1 mph)

    thank for the vid

  • 73129. Type it in boyzzz!

  • I beg to differ. A NYC Dreyfus Hudson looks waaay better than that.

  • nzr ja class looks a million times better than those ugly things ne day. look at tha wheels on those!!! yuk!!!!!

  • A lot of my fellow Yanks noticed similarities with the N&W J class, the New Haven I-5's, and someone even mentioned the Espee 4449. But, did anyone note the firebox? Very similar to the PRR Belpaire, used on the K-4's (4-6-2) or the M-1's (4-8-2) classes.

  • The GS-4 4449 can beat the 3801 BUT no offense to ANYBODY!

  • Thought it was going to be a GWR King!!

    Some ugly thing instead

  • yeah I was hoping for a LBSC Marsh Atlantic,

(still that green blob looks business like)

  • Well considering how many driving wheels that thing has compared to a 38er its no wonder.

38's were good at what they were designed for. Flying Scotsmans visit to Australia proved fast doesn't automatically mean you can go hard up a constant 1 in 33 without sticking up.

  • british is best

  • wow wunderschöne Maschinen! wenn ich mich nicht irre ist die grüne eine Dampfspeicherlok ;)

  • ... VR locos are better ;)

  • The 1 in 40 grade Lithgow to Zig-Zag is made to look easy for TWO 38 class with a LIGHT load. Try a long and heavy goods train with FOUR steam locos ! Last part of-

Garretts- Double AD 60 Class with Coal Trains near Newcastle

    watch?v=T6gEjZYFs0M

    Thanks to Bilbin's DVD.

A somewhat better shot of the two 38s class in action-

Steam Trains - 38's Over The Mountains (Part 1 of 6)

    /watch?v=0_KaPoQTKJU

    Please enjoy.

  • The most beautiful steam loco must surely be in the U.K. - LNER A4 Pacific - and the fastest @ 126mph as Mallard has shown.

  • For me the best looking loco is the GWR castle class. Being from the west midlands.

  • That lead engine is a smaller version of the N&W J-Class 4-8-4. BTW: There was once a wide-gauge 4-8-4 that looked like a Pennsy T-1 that I haven't heard about for a while. Is that one still running?

  • You might be thinking of the south australian 520 class, they were 5'3" gauge. The one that was running is at steam ranger at Mount Barker.currently not running. thanks for looking

  • That's what I was thinking. I thought it looked like a cross between an N&W J-Class and an NYC Hudson.

  • No it's not.

It's essentially a no-frills New Haven I-5. The basic designs are very much alike, right down to the streamlining.

  • Ahhhh, I see. Thank you.

  • @RDG484 If it's a smaller version of the J-class, how come it's not a 4-8-4?

  • these locos are 38s and what i think are the pride of our country (me being aussie of coarse)

  • Well I never thought I would sit here in the UK and see 3801 again, rememeber her visiting Perth WA some years ago.A great sight.Thanks.

  • Hey how come 3801's whistle sounds different.

  • mallard for me!

  • steam is the ultimate way to travel. hands down.

  • nice steam engine... thought only the best ones were in the US..

  • Ah yes, but the design is copied from the US - forget what type of US steam loco though!

  • ok thanks, didn't mean best so much as big steamers... with their whistles.. best regards.. oh, here in richmond , va we have the worlds only triple overpass for trains.

  • J class i think.

  • Yep, the N&W J-Class 4-8-4.

  • Nice streamliner!
