There is ample PROOF that Scientology has hurt many, and this has been documented. There are ex-Scientologists who wrote on this, too.
But...there are helpful elements and good auditors. It is several orgs within a broad spectrum of Hubbard teachings. Some are helpful, some are criminal.
Take everything with a pinch of salt, some of teachings are real dandy, but the reality of the cult is also "mixed".
It depends on what your context of "help" is. If you want to communicate in a better way or be better in "attacking attackers" or be sharper in following orders....yes. Hubbard was perceptive about human nature, and the drills and auditing result in some improvements.
If you want spirituality....no. This is also unhealthful because it can result in some brainwashing and even creates subconscious fears due to their methods of handling dissent.

But...there are helpful elements and good auditors. It is several orgs within a broad spectrum of Hubbard teachings. Some are helpful, some are criminal.
Take everything with a pinch of salt, some of teachings are real dandy, but the reality of the cult is also "mixed".

I understand there may be a few cases, then the question is, in the end when everything has been summed up, has it helped more people than not?

It depends on what your context of "help" is. If you want to communicate in a better way or be better in "attacking attackers" or be sharper in following orders....yes. Hubbard was perceptive about human nature, and the drills and auditing result in some improvements.
If you want spirituality....no. This is also unhealthful because it can result in some brainwashing and even creates subconscious fears due to their methods of handling dissent.

unlike most people that put down L Ron Hubbard and Scientology....I have read L Ron Hubbards books (many of them).
I have gone to a Scientology center and experienced "auditing".
It was a great experience and I am happier and more successful after reading about L Ron Hubbards teachings and using the tools to improve my life.
What I dont understand (actually I do) is why those with no experience put down something that helps others.
So it isn't for you? Fine. Cant you be happy it helps others?

Pal, the high feeling comes from electrical stimulus from the E-meter, and other mentalist tricks. It keeps people coming back for more...the basic rule of a scam.
Hubbard *was* brilliant...many con men are. So he DID help via his teachings. But this is a money making cult, not spirituality.

@Shiv1971 That is really sad, you just said how happy you got out of it but you have been so damaged by life that you actually look at all good things with cation of being harmful... I feel bad that you see everything even good things like Scientology as harmful to you even though you admitted it made you feel extremely well. Pity.

i see the truth in the quotes, but its so fucked up. like he's added another dimension of his own "answers" to lifes' debilitating questions.
It is a Religion. Man made, like all the rest of them.
Fair play to the guy. Religion is about creating a theme of ideas which are absorbed and have the intense desire to implant these ideas on others, merely by suggestion and to provide the answers through preaching. Very good. its worth a study. But the whole thing is messed up lol

Superb...thank you. Can someone get to Tom and shake him and talk some sense into him? He's a "celebrity" and probably hasn't been exposed to all the sins of Scientology. They treat him like a God.
