I listened to almost all covers here on youtube to find out which version I grew up listening to. I don't even know who Sammy was but dang, I remember this version. An I loved it.
Sammy Davis was supremely talented. Could he crowd please. One of the most complete multi-talented entertainers of all time. The orchestral arrangement here is one of the best I have heard.
Did you all know that he also sang the theme for the t.v. show "Barretta". :"Don't do the crime if you can't do the time..... NOOOOOO.... don't do it" Frickin' Sammy! What an entertainer.
sammy is a great. half black half boricua new yorker. thank you frank. frank sinatra played a major role in getting black singers and entertainers to be treated like anybody eles in showbiz. frank boycotted certain venues just to get people like sammy to be treated like anyone eles during those racist times. frank also got red fox his first recording deal.
What a damn shame, Mr. Davis couldn't be treated like a human being unless a white person said that he is to be treated as such. It is sad how African-Americans were treated ( and still being mistreated) just because of their race and nothing else. Just image what African-American women went through during time frame for being BOTH black and female.
Yes! And on the "Jeannie" episode (which is a different version btw), at the end of rehearsing it with his band, he goes "Well...It ain't the Monkees...But it'll have to do!" LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!! :)
aaAAAH!!....from1:39 feels I like wonna dance like Fred Astaire..with tophat, of course...

As was the case with EVERYTHING he did, this song is tremendous. Notice how he adds his own flair to this popular song. What a talent !!
Respects and kudos to You, Mr. Davis; one of the greatest entertainers in the history of music.
