Who actually cares if he's black or white? Why do people have to make such a big fucking deal over this? So much for ethnic diversity. I hate uneducated fucks.
Thairis sin beidh mé ag rá go bhfuil Éire tír mór. Chomaoin mé go léir mo oidhreacht go hÉirinn. Tháinig mo sheanathair mór ó Éirinn go Meiriceá agus ní raibh ach 3 glúnta a rugadh anseo in ionad na hÉireann. Tá mé bródúil as a bheith Mheiriceá, ach chomh bródúil as mo oidhreacht na hÉireann.
Barack Obama is Luo ( kenyan ) from his father's side. From his mom's side is english ( welsh ) , irish and native american. Essentially he is as much luo as he is celtic by blood.
yeah i almost forgot irish ancestry too.He is very multi cultural. the funniest part is Obama is related ( by blood ) to 3 american presidents. He is the only US presidents who lineage has been scrutinized and whose entire genealogical tree is available online. This is mind boggling.
he was meant to be PRESIDENT. he just exudes this good vibe to ALL people of all races, religions, age and gender. i still can't believe we had the good sense to elect him. and look what the asshole neo-cons are doing to him.
@nosequiters Coming from a country that spawns the likes of the BNP - You aren't in a position to discuss racism. I don't see any racists in that crowd.
Just so "Irish" Americans aren't duped, the vast majority of Irish people think Irish is a pointless language and if you go there you're extremely unlikely to hear anyone speak it.
@SeanOBriain You're living in your own little fantasy world my friend. About 1% of people in Ireland speak Irish, if that. Forget the ridiculous census figures, "official sources" (wikipedia) will tell that 20% in Ireland speak French!
@barnbersonol I didn't make a claim as to the amount who 'speak' Irish - I made a claim as to who 'supports' the language. The majority of the population absolutely support it. As for speaking figures - a conservative estimate is about 150,000. On your bike now like a good chap, and find some other videos to troll.
@SeanOBriain Mate, I lived in Ireland for 2 years, and as a Welsh speaker often asked people about this topic. why are you living in this fantasy? The sad part is the that while you defend mainstream Irish society it regards you, an Irish language enthusiast, as a mug for backing a loser. Now stop digging, stop feeding the troll, and quit while it's only one nil. Do you think I'd defend anglicised South Walians?
@barnbersonol You lived in Ireland for 2 years - congrats! I'm impressed. I was born in Ireland, and have lived here for 28 years. I use Irish on a daily basis. So what fantasy is it exactly that I am living in? It is documented fact that the population is supportive of the language. It is documented fact that speakers are on the increased. The only real issue is the method of instruction in English medium schools - which is being rectified. So piss off - I'd expect more from a Welsh speaker.
Love to see people proud of their heritage, and not just focusing on one aspect. Too many Americans of African descent ignore their Irish, English, or other European heritage. If they focus on anything other than African it is Native American, French, Spanish. The latter two being considered more acceptable than Northern European blood.
@TsalagiAgvnage My grams was Irish, English & Black American and she definitely raised her children to recognize all. True, when my great grandfather who was from Ireland (the product of an English father & Irish mother) married my great grams way back when they weren't very welcomed but grams was was raised there until 11 & she loved Erin. I love Ireland. I can speak and write in Gaelic, Irish step danced for years, and know my culture, but in America if you're part black, you're all black.
@cruithneuladh Ignoring whether you like Obama or not, and then ignoring learner mistakes (which are inevitable), can you at least be happy that Irish is becoming more prominent? I want to know as an American learning Irish that it's even worth the bother, or am I going to be judged as a learner automatically...?
@cruithneuladh I think it's more important that God save us from English-speaking Irish people who have no blás and no desire to acquire one! Obama wasn't half as bad as I thought he would be! :)
Dia duit Sean - thanks for your post of President Obama speaking a cúpla focal. I'm Irish-Scots-Irish for the most part; and I know that my great-great-great grandfather on my father was a monoglot Irish speaker. The Irish Diaspora brought him to the U.S. No one in my family has ever returned to Ireland on either my mom or dad's side. I'm planning a holiday next year. I am teaching myself Gaelic to reconnect with my Insular Celtic ancestry. Tír gan teanga, tír gan anam. Slan! Lee
@rlmccoy124 Good luck to you and good trip. My father's side is Irish-Scots-Irish and my mother's is full Irish. Those relatives who've gone to visit on my mother's side said that upon arriving to the counties we were from the familial resemblance was obvious on a number of folks' faces and the rest of them were very happy to help with locating graves and records.
let's try keep the politics out of it :) i just uploaded this to show barack speaking a cúpla focal. i don't think it's the right place to discuss american foreign policy. thanks guys :)
@SeanOBriain sorry, i really wasn't trying to spark arguments on your video, delete if you wish. fair play to him for having a go at the language, just as queenie last week.
@windshadow333 feck. that was a typo i assure you, i studied gaeilge for two years. i'm nowhere near fluent but i'm not quite that inept.
please US citizens, don't be offended by my opposition to american foreign policy in libya, afganistan, iraq, pakistan and their undying suppport for israel - you aren't your government afterall.
@monogirl3 eh, when bush was running things you could curse out govt, but obama, he's nowhere near the scum bush was, so, even tho this is politics, im not fighting so i hope no1 will delete this. just thought u should know we kinda feel ya on the whole emperialism thing. :)
@Rachulie I don't see obama's govt as any different to any of the other westerns powers.. cameron, sarkozy et al, they're all primarily working in the interest of corporatism. As for bush, yes obama is a tactful statesman, the more eloquent speaker & before becoming president he seemed his polar opposite, but in practice his policies haven't veered much from that of his predecessor. i'd urge you to look up "john pilger obama and empire" here on utube. peace x (that's it from me Seán, i promise!)
