  • We had piper at my friends funeral, she was 22 and 8 months pregnant. It was beautiful unlike the butcher job this guy is doing.

  • War pipes, kitchen Pipes, small pipes, north umb. pipes, uilleann pipes, its all celtic and its all beautiful

  • this song made me cry because i love my irish grandfather

  • Whats Irish about this,NOTHING its all Scottish everything from the Great Highland Bagpipes to the kilt and bonnet.......................Must be an American thing getting cultures COMPLETLY mixed up.

  • @Fortysomething100 True, the Yanks have a completely made up artificial view of what is Scottish and what is Irish.

'Irish people' didn't exist before the 16th century either, it's a 16th century Papist name imposed by Pope Leo X.

So called 'Irish culture' is a 19th century invention from 1890~1921.

  • I admire you guys like I respect my grandfathers (I´m Finnish, check "winter war"). Cultural heritage is something to be proud of and not to shun away. And my deepest sympathies for your fathers passing.

  • Never want to have to hear this in person

  • You all can't tell me you can trace your hermitage back past 4 generations your Irish...Scottish...doesn't matter your American unless your Scottish royalty with lands in lockshire... or you speak Gaelic fluently then rogue mi hon and enjoy those pipes for what they represent a loud proud representation of Irish Scottish hermitage oh and P.S. dumbass the highland pipes were originally an Egyptian instrument which the Romans used to confuse intimidate and communicate in times of battle. Dated bc

  • It never ceases to amaze me the amount of drivel that people take for fact concerning kilts, bagpipes, Scottish versus Irish, and anything else one cares to mention. All this information pertaining to the relevant subjects is freely available on the internet.

  • @BigCheese462 Well actually thousands of Scots died, not for freedom, but for the British empire, the same empire that booted tens of thousands of highlanders off their ancestral lands so that they were forced to emmigrate to Canada and USA where they showed up at Ellis island in RAGS. Show some knowledge !

  • Amazing grace :D

  • I admire thee Irish ~ <3

  • @8chels thanks for upload

  • by the way we still havent forgot the black watch and the black and tan scum who came to my countrys released from prisons in scotland to cary out murders rapes and mayhem in the name of england and the crown no we have'nt forgot in ireland we still remember the scotish traitors there's even songs about ya's

  • i still find it silly how the scots still wont come clean that we irish gave them there culture and the national language which they have near lost due to the love of and submision to england :) google irish warpipes the doyles site the irish marched against the scots at falkirk playing warpipes which sent them into a frenzy! england banned the irish from playing pipes in a law passed called the stature of kilkenny! punishment for playing warpipes in ireland included hanging :)

  • Really do you play pipes?

  • my grandad had bag pipes at his funeral

  • Peace be with him. (Bows head)

  • repeat after me ... the irish are not the only celts on the planet. ireland's nearest neighbour is .. guess who. is there more than one celtic state? where wassaint patrick from?

DON'T SAY HE WAS FROM ENGLAND AS ENGLAND DID NOT EXIST THEN.

WHAT IS NOW ENGLAND WAS ONCE WALES.

EDUCATE YOURSELVES AND READ UP ON CELTIC NATIONALISM.

AND USE LESS VULGAR LANGUAGE IN FUTURE. RIGHT?

  • THESE ARE SCOTTISH PIPES!!!!!!!!

  • @Phitalian in history books the irish played irish warpipes the scots call them highland pipes same thing!

  • hey jack off pain in me hole 222macgregor shut ur trap. Erin go braugh and by the way didnt the ire come to help u a few times

  • I love bagpipes and amazing grace at funerals. It has always symbalized to me, a sort of calling out to the heavens that a soul is coming home. To the debater, it does not matter what heritage you are, I am American, my family is Irish. However all through out this world we are human beings and we share our ideas and traditions with one another thats what keeps them going. This is a lovely ceremony for any human being. God bless your loved ones and thanks for sharing.

  • The Irish and the Scots played the bags, the were used to celebrate and to lay rest some one who was loved. The lone bag is a great honor by both cultures and is used to show great respect for the departed and to speed his or her way. The meaning is respect, if you cannot do that, then maybe should hold your tongue as the saying goes. I am both Irish and English, and also know that without honor and respect, one does not get far in life because his word is tainted and not worthy

  • @Ravensfare There is no such thing as Irish bagpipes, there never was Irish bagpipes.

'Irish people' didn't even exist before the 16th century, Irish is a 16th century Papist name imposed upon the Hibernia/Irish by Pope Leo X for entering a fraudulent claim and saying they were Scots.

  • Actually look up "Great Irish Warpipes" used from the 1500's and died out just before the 1800's.

  • FUNERAL SONG? It's Amazing Grace.

  • Lizerloth

    here is:

    Celtic Legends - Amazing Grace

  • I don't think the man that is laying inside or that God above realy cares is they are Scottish or Irish pipes, or if the piper wears a scottish kilt. He was there to honer the man and his family and To be "The lone piper" is an honer in itself to send a man to his final rest . God rest ye in peace forever!

  • please i need it i go 1 bagpipes

  • what is the name of this song is awesome

  • great job on the bagpipes camera man needs to be shot

  • Ahhhhhh bagpipes... non-lethal negro repellent. I prefer the .45 ACP negro repellent myself.

  • @thecrusades2 then after the celts invaded ireland and killed all its inhabitants they killed everyone in Briton therefor we are neither irish or scottish we are celt (Keltoi by the greeks) i have studied celtic history and love to debate this stuff so please reply

  • @thecrusades2 When the Celts first arrived in Ireland around 250BC, the island had already been inhabited for over 7,000 years. These pre-Celtic peoples have left no written records, but they have left extensive archaeological evidence, of which Newgrange is the most celebrated example this has been taking from a book. To say that Ireland was inhabited by Scots is total bullshit considering the scots did not exist at this time they were just ancient tribes they did not have a nationality,

  • @thecrusades2 hahahahahahahahahaha u idiot its the opposite way around ahahahahahahahahahahahaahah

  • oh my word... u guys are sad, show some respect yeah?... this was a piper playing at a funneral right, so stop being so BITCHTY towards each other, and show respect for the passing, The piper played very well :).. keep up the good work man :).... From a scots to an irish.. you have all my full support :) x

  • @thecrusades2 - ahhh, so I'm supposed to just know what you're referring to instead of what you wrote! Now I understand.

  • @npcarey You, sir, are an arsehole.

  • This my grandpa memorial song he donated his body to science he love to tel funny jokes and stories I will never forget you R.I.P Douglas ray Terry ( pappa ) love cameron ray Terry

  • Very well played. To settle the miss information there is well over 20 know types of pipes many are county specific and clan specific and there is foreign designs as well. The kilt is wore by both side of the isle.

  • @thecrusades2 - Thanks for the lecture, not really needed tho', I've been playing the SCOTTISH GHB for over 20 years myself. This debate is really rather silly as it started over @222macgregor making ignorant comments about the Irish. But, I am surprised by your comment "irish pipes, none exist, the pipes that are played today..." given you know *so* much about piping tradition. They don't exist? Really? Uilleann pipes? Brian Boru pipes? Someone better tell the Irish their pipes no longer exist!

  • Comment removed

  • @222macgregor - You'd better check your history laddie, you couldn't be more wrong! Clearly you know nothing about the history of pipes or piping. Bagpipes have everything to do with Irish culture and have been in Ireland a *very* long time. And how can you tell the kilt he's wearing isn't an Irish kilt? You can't even see it! You might want to check out the Irish pipe band pages to see what types of kilts they wear today and that they play 3-drone pipes!

  • beautiful rendition, only thing is this particular bagpipe is scottish.

  • The Scotts and the Irish were once from the same clan...

  • guys guys, forget the kilt, he is screwing up his grace notes!

  • @wakka5010 100% agree...

  • to all those fools talking crap, come on were all CELTS dont degrade ourselves to some internet arguing fools' LONG LIVE THE CELTS

  • Come on now, Scottish, Irish, Welsh, Scotch-Irish, we're all Celts. Uchrlly, I'm sorry for your loss and I'm sure your dad and mom were honored by the bagpipes.

  • @thecrusades I suspect the100,000+ Scots who settled in Ireland in the 17th century might have a different opinion. The overwhelming majority of folk who current live in Ulster are of Ulster-Scots stock...it's our tradition as much as yours, so please don't attempt to tell me who I am!

  • i suggest people google before they comment on this video....

  • @BigCheese462

This is too true however, I wouldn't claim all Americans think this way but only the American-Irish AKA the retards.

  • I have no objection to the Highland Pipes being played at your fathers funeral nor did I intend to cause a scene.

I am only asking that in the future you do not attempt to pass Scottish culture off as Irish.

  • @devinediety I never said they were Irish, I never said they weren't Scottish. I know the video is labeled incorrectly and I am not trying to deny their culture to them. I am just saying that kilts in the US, over the last 100 years, have become a general sign of Celtic identity. I also know that the only evidence of a kilt in Irish culture was a carving (or painting) that showed what is called a Lein-croich which is basically a long tunic.

  • @BigCheese462 I didn't say anything about where the kilt originated from I was just saying that the kilt has become a symbol of gaelic heritage especially in the US. This started around the turn of the 1900s. And hundreds of fine Scotsman did die in WWI and II, but hundreds of thousands of Americans died defending all of Europe.

  • Sorry, but horrible. That guy should have practiced alot longer...

    before going out in public...

  • what is the name of this song??

  • @machacek0190 Amazing Grace

  • many people confuse the Scottish Highland pipes with Uilleann pipes (spelling is probably wrong) which I think are Irish

  • @222macgregor-Where do you get off thinking that your comment is acceptable for a funeral service! What kind of pathetic creature are you! THIS was at my Dad's funeral in May of 09! THAT man considers himself to be Scot/Irish!

He did a damn fine job! He also played the pipes at my Mom's funeral in May of 1999! YOU have no right critisizing what HE did for us or how he did it!

Means nothing to you but means EVERYTHING to Dad--WWII MARINE CORP Vet and my siblings! Stay out of it!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @uchrlly While 222macgregor's comments may have been harsh, they weren't inaccurate. In fact the piper you hired was playing Scottish Highland bag pipes. Based on your video title I was hoping to hear Irish bag pipes, aka Uilleann pipes that sound quite beautiful in a different way. Most people are familiar with Uilleann pipes from the theme song from the movie Titanic. I can understand why Scots get a bit annoyed when Highland pipes are called "Irish" - co-opted by every AOH in America.

  • Comment removed

  • Thats beautiful

  • actually kilts have a history in all celtic regions, ireland wales and cornwall especially. though irish kilts are normally a solid colour rather than tartan, although some irish tartans have been made (i have one) right enough though the prince charlie jackets are a scottish thing, but lets be honest theres no better jacket to wear with your kilt! and right enough these pipes are highland pipes from scotland but they get used at big events with irish families as the ulliean pipes arent as loud

  • Scottish bag pipes!

  • My kin was from Ireland via Scotland. The McCoy's have their own Tartan, they play bagpipes and we consider ourselves Scots-Irish.

  • 222 your right, how ever it took a Irishman to play them correctly!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I expected someone to fired off onto Genesis in photon torpedo casing.

  • Beautiful, yet sad..

  • I want this played at my fucking funeral & the way that I am heading in life that could be anytime soon.Sábhála Dia sinn na hÉireann.

  • As a proud American with both Irish and Scottish blood, I apologize for these other Americans who are trying to correct pipers and those who still live in the native lands. We're not all that stupid.

  • highland pipes kind of easy to tell

  • To agree with macgregor, I also am a piper and have been for round about four years going on five and I can add in that the Irish pipes aka uilleann pipes are far different from the highland pipes aka the Scots pipes. The uilleann pipes are a two octave instrument controlled by a valve on the bottom of the chanter and instead of a blow pipe it uses a billow under the opposite arm of the bag. Just a wee bit of trivia from not only a piper but a proud scot.,

  • @222macgrergor You're beating a dead horse here laddie. You cannot educate a person who already knows everything.

  • I have been a piper for over twelve years therefore I think I know what the Great Highland sounds like.

You are such an American tool. I have an Irishman sitting right next to me reading your comments and laughing. The only way in which the kilts and bagpipes can be related to the Irish is through the Scotch-Irish.

Scots-Irish were Lowland and Highland Scots who migrated to Northern Ireland and then continued their journey to America a few generations later - they are Scots through and through

  • To all of the idiot American-Irish out there. Please understand that Highland kilts and bagpipes have nothing to do with Ireland.

They are specific to the Scottish culture.

And also, the bagpipes being played in this video and Highland and therefore Scottish.

  • @222macgregor You sir, are the fucking idiot. Kilts and pipes are just as much of an Irish heritage as they are Scottish. Even the Welsch wore kilts. That song is amazing grace, written by John Newton , English. As far as what this gentlman is wearing in this video, you cant even make out the details so how do you know these are highland pipes, or a highland kilt for that matter. Keep your ignorant mouth shut.

  • @222macgregor Theoretically, the bagpipes were invented in Ancient Iraq/Iran, not Scotland. You have no claim to the invention of The Bagpipe as an instrument, as even in Britain, the first historical record of the pipes is IRISH, in th 12th century. They did not appear in Scotland till the 1400's. The only validity in your statement is that this particular bagpipe is a Great Highland Bagpipe, the Scottish one. Even the song isn't Scottish, 'Amazing Grace' is English, and universally beautiful.

  • @Sean147147147 what you say is true, but The Scottish have had bagpipes since 800 AD and the Irish had bagpipes at the same time.(this is when the four Scottish kingdoms of ALBA came together to form Scotia, what is known as Scotland today). The difference between Scottish and Irish bagpipes is that the Irish ones are smaller and have a clear sharp sound where as the Scottish ones were designed to scare the crap out of the English, hence why Scottish bagpipes sound terrible at times.

  • @rfs103 well said

  • @222macgregor The Irish bagpipes are called Uilleann pipes smart guy. The Kilts are Scottish adopted by the Irish to show their Celtic Identity.

  • @222macgregor oh what a nice thing to say on a funeral video.

  • @222macgregor A lot of Americans are "Scots-Irish". They are the descendants of Scots who came to Ulster and then later to America. They are largely Protestant. They were numbered amongst the earliest inhabitants of the 13 colonies and are different from the largely Catholic Irish immigrants who came to America in the mid-19th century.

  • @222macgregor We're not all idiots. And some of us have Scott too. And now a favor, lol. MacIntyre tartan? Really want a kilt. And if you can find Coat of Arms, even better.

  • @222macgregor First, kilts started to become a symbol of Gaelic heritage, celebrating both Irish and Scottish heritages. Personally I am a 3rd generation Irish American and I have a kilt. This brings me to my 2nd point, have you ever worn a kilt? They are fucking comfortable.

Lastly, have some god damn respect. Even if the deceased was from Japan and wanted a bagpiper at his funeral, who the hell cares.

  • @scorpion103181

The issue of Scottish culture being passed as Irish only seems to occur in Northern States such as New York and Boston and I believe both of these States are mostly populated with Irish-Americans.

Being a Scot, it really angers me that there are so many uneducated people out there who lack the basic grasp of geogrpahy to be able to identify one culture from another.

It doesn't matter what colour an "Irish" kilt comes in - there's no such thing as an Irish kilt.

  • @222macgregor My god, learn to read, I never mentioned anything about an Irish Kilt nor did I say anything anything about kilt colors. All I said was "a kilt in Irish culture." Also, besides the kilt what else of Scottish origin has been passed of as Irish?

  • @scorpion103181

So long as you are clear that Highland kilts and Highland bagpipes are not a symbol or Irishness or Celtic, but Scottish.

This only happens in America - no where else. I'm not aware of anything else other than those stated.

  • @222macgregor Fuck off, you stupid mick.

  • @222macgregor Your wrong, and right. The bagpipes AND kilts are CELTIC!!! Your sound like an idiot.

The irish kilts were traditionally solid in color, and covered more of the body than the Scottish kilt, they were called Brat!

The bagpipes is an instrument used all over the world by many peoples. it is believed to have been one of the earlier instruments invented. There are records from the Roman empire of the Irish carrying Bagpipes into battle. You twat.

  • @CpTNanaPanTs

Who the fuck are you calling a twat you pie eating, lard ass of an American.

The first ever recorded Irish kilt was created in the 1960s to accommodate the ignorant North American-Irish market who had no idea what Irish culture was.

Bagpipes are recorded in only Scotland, Egypt and India in history. The Highland bagpipe however, is the national instrument of Scotland and has been an icon of Scotland for centuries.

You need to pick up a book, you spastic wee cunt!

  • @222macgregor Bloody hell that was a mouthfull, are you a History lecturer? Pull your head out mate because your only embarrassing yourself, ey? And don't go all hopty scotch about books unless you have read them yourself. By the way, I hope your not some hooligan trying to pull a hi-jinx on us here.

  • @222macgregor

    Dont forget,

youre an asshole. The irish play bag pipes a LOT.

    And explain to me,

WHY are there IRISH folksongs WITH BAGPIPES?!

Folksongs start with one generation, and theyre passed down. Ireland had a lot to do with the pipes. We have our own, called the Borleann. Its pumped by your arm, and they used the "Scottish" pipes too. Thats just like saying you scottishmen wrote your names on the kilts.

Sorry, uchrlly, I send my regards to your family.

  • @222macgregor The Scottish got the pipes off the irish they made one modification to it the kilts are used in both cultures

  • @222macgregor I hope you do know that there are irish pipes

  • @222macgregor ir an ass yup that covers it oh yeah get a fuckin life

  • Comment removed

  • @222macgregor Actually jerkoff there were bagpipes in Ireland, they are called the uilleann pipes. OOO yeah and way to be an asshole for no reason...

  • @222macgregor wrong place to try out your new arrogant, prestigious personality pal, wrong move son, wrong move

  • Comment removed

  • Scottish, not Irish

  • no offense but he needs to practice more before playing at any funerals.

  • Comment removed

  • Both The Irish & Scotts do use the bagpipes ,but there's a slight difference in the tone(pitch) as they are made slightly different(at least that's what I've been told) !

Also I've been told that the Scotts use them more frequently . I don't really care as I just love to hear them played -especially "Amazing Grace" & "Going Home" .

  • @catman1560 The Highland Bagpipes are very specific in Nature. The Irish bagpipes come in two forms, both of which are small in both size and sound compared to the great highland bagpipes. The smallpipes are more popular in Ireland too. (the smallpipes are pipes that use a bellows instead of a blowpipe). So it is quite probable that he is playing the highland bagpipes, which have now been exported all over the world.

  • those are NOT Irish bagpipes!! They are Scottish ones...

  • @pipewatcher i think both Scottish and Irish use them

  • it's amazing grace

  • what's the real name of the song? because i can't find it if i type Funeral song :S

  • I'm just thankful some people still try to pay their respects for all those who died fighting so hard for our freedoms. It will be a dark day when no one does this anymore. Loneliness is pure hell.

  • he plays awfull

  • It's a bad recording, true, but don't forget that Irish bagpipes are different from Scottish bagpipes (and the ones they use in Bretagne, France are yet another kind), so they really sound different

The scottich version is most heard and most known troughout the world

  • nop most bagpipes song weird thats what makes it genuine for me

  • ITS THE PHONE AUDIO

  • wtf recording on your mobile at a funeral. Pretty disrespectful to me

  • Comment removed

  • i miss by brother

  • poor.

  • The song is calles: Amazing Grace

  • how is the name of the original song- I heard it once with text and it sounded so melancholic

  • ummm...not an expert but that sound way out of tune

  • @1291ffemt i second that. those pipes did not sound right

  • @whjman07 I think its the recording and not the bagpipes, the audio card within the camera probably doesn't have the dynamic range to properly record bagpipes

  • Beautiful

  • These are Scottish Highland Bagpipes, not Irish Uilleann Bagpipes. Uilleann makes a different sound, and looks different.

  • Amazing Grace. Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me.. beg. lyrics

  • anyone know what the song he's playing is called?

  • @jnick44g it's Amazing Grace

  • I agree, give up. This is makes me cry, but it the playing not the song!

  • Good effort keep it up, by the way they are Great Highland Pipes not Irish

  • Those are Scottish Highland pipes, Irish pipes have two drones... These ones are good for this stuff though...

  • this brings tears to my eyes... it brings me back to my paps funeral, who was a green beret in Vietnam.

  • @sk8tr0125 i bet he got the clap from a gook and gave it to your mom

  • Brings tears to my eyes.

  • Thanks KingGold007. Despite this song belongs to a kultchur so different and far, I'm mexican, is beautiul and have the same mean that get the heart of everibody. Thanks a lot.

  • For a long time I had heard this song in a radio at the end of the days, but I don't know its name. Is a beautiful songs that go deep the heart, and make me remember my father died too. Can some of you tell me the name of this song, please. Thanks
