Well the tone certainly helps add definition to his playing ... using a more traditional tone (e.g. P-bass with flats) wouldn't sound too great with high-register melodies like you see here. I think it's a great example of what Wals can do tonally.
Awesome bass player and awesome bass. I've owned his first custom base since I was a teenager in 1980s. I posted a video response if you want to see the bass.
Video of me playing a Jonas Hellborg designed bass when I was in a band called "Tous" in Naples, Italy at the young age of sixteen is available on my YouTube page if anyone is interested in seeing the bass. My playing was nothing special, but the bass is awesome. One of my oldest and most prized possessions.
From wich concert is this?? please tell me... .)

amazing player, but i dont like the tone, so much highs and lack of lows, almost like a guitar

if you played bass, you'd know that it is necessary to cut the bass frequencies to play chords and some melodies

that´s really great music played on the bass.
Jonas Hellborg played with John Mc Lauglin and Trilok Gurtu and with Ginger Baker for example.

This is great, who is this guy?

I believe he is the bassists that writes the chord books. They look like pamphlets and they're really good, so is he!
