The state insurance (near) monopolies are a result of state laws that don't allow individuals to purchase insurance across state lines. It wasn't a lack of govt. involvement that caused this but, rather, more bad legislation. Government (too much of it) is the problem and we have a nation of mental midgets who unbelievably think we don't have enough!

Schiff is pretty shrewd politically (good thing). We know he's against policing the world but he phrases things in a way to leave it more open ended for people who feels differently, always going back to the economy (i.e., "we can't afford such luxuries" in reference to Afghanistan).

Dodd is in a bad way. When word got out he got a special deal on his mortgage from Countrywide and he got contributions from the notorious AIG, that soured a lot of his constituents. His approval tanked.
