  • This is wonderful. Too bad neither the original nor the translation has all the sung verses. Still, this makes me very happy. I've had the Martin Best recording for a couple of decades. This is better.

  • Gràcies per pernjar-lo

  • Nice. This is music is ancient. Sang in old Occitan. Too bad no one knows what on earth the song is about.

I've made this rhyme completely free

of sense—it's not of you and me,

    or youth, or doings he-and-she,

    or springtime thoughts.

It came to me while I was sleeping

    on my horse.

  • @theprof1958 Many thanks prof! Did not check :|.

By the way, is this the oldest known troubador? Or are there older musicians who composed during the 11th century, before the 1st crusade.

William of Aquitaine only started composing after his return from crusade. The immense experience led him to unleash his talent. How intriguing!

  • @ConstantineJoseph

Yes: as far as I know William is the first great troubadour

  • aND THIS LANGUAGE TOO!

  • where does the melody come from? I LOVE this piece - I have the Martin Best recording - but as far as I know, only the words are extant.

  • @epiphanygreen : All of this album's melodies are of Brice Duisit's invention, yet far from fantasy. He appears to have been working extensively on it.

  • Thanks for uploading this. I am writing a university paper about this poem and this is certainly inspiring.
