I think the message of the story is NOT to get plastic surgery and to be yourself. Yeah she got plastic surgery and life was good, but only for a little while. She lost her friend, dad, and identity. And also her romantic interest liked her better as her heavier self because she was HER. I think that it's just teaching you that being yourself is the best thing you can do and be. This was a really good movie ♥

@TrishTheFish23 the irony is that Koreans accept plastic surgery in real life. this movie was based off a Japanese manga, and as for how Japan's culture views plastic surgery is something I don't know... however, I have heard that Japan thinks that crooked teeth are cute... so maybe Japan does not accept plastic surgery as much as Korea?

I'm a little over two hundred pounds and I look nothing like that. But then again I've been told that I hide my weight well and I wear flattering clothing that makes me feel comfortable. I also don't bump into things that much but I am kind of a klutz.I'm only giving this example of myself to portray that not all overweight people fit the stereotype, but it is important to try to be healthy. I wish they would make a movie about an overweight person finding love without having to get thinner.

Let me just add that I still like the movie. I just wish that they didn't portray plastic surgery like a very simple medical procedure as if it's the best problem solver to weight loss. An obese lady CAN achieve those same results with proper amount of calories, eating the right foods, and having cardiovascular exercise in conjunction with weight lifting. It's cheaper and all she probably needs to add is some dental work.

I don't like their message that the solution to fatness is plastic surgery. It's unrealistic to undergo that process especially with that kind of weight in a short amount of time. It's very dangerous & it sends the wrong message to young girls. I don't think it's right to suggest that in order to lose weight, plastic surgery is the best option. It is not. Wouldn't it be more cost effective & less risky if her doctor financed her weight loss program instead? Eating right and exercising is better.
