  • I love the concealed cuts in this sequence. Each piece is pretty long though considering how much easier it would have been not to go with this stylistic approach.

Don't hate on people for telling you there are cuts in here. It's NOT all one shot. Sorry to bust up the movie magic. Still a great scene in a great film.

  • i love this part so much cuz of half life2 atmosphere

  • One of the BEST long shots ever taken!

  • this sort of scene has happened SO many times around the world...in real life. we humans never learn... such stupidity. amazing movie...

  • i love this take, but the only thing is,, who's to say they didnt cut it at 3:58 when it blacked out?

  • @CONVICT700 there is no cut...watched the blueray today and there is no blacking out like that...you can always see the actor it only gets darker

  • 1 person wasn't happy they died at 0:13 in a 6 minute take...

  • This isn't even the whole shot.

  • @wonderwall135 we get it. you read a book. congratulations. the movie is brilliant you pretentious twat.

  • @wonderwall135 Shut the fuck up hipster

  • @Sed1er Why does my comment anger you so much that you have to curse at me and call me names? Is your life so meaningless that you go on the internet and insult others? I watched this movie a few years ago, and remembered I had read the book. Its obvious the book is vastly superior and the movie is Hollywood dramatic bullshit. Just my opinion. If you don't agree, that's fine. There's no need to insult me. I suggest you go to therapy. These anger issues can become problematic.

  • @wonderwall135 i can see how the first baby to be born in a long time isnt dramatic at all. You are right and im wrong. sorry sensei. You sound like an idiot saying The source material is better. it's obvious and you don't have to post that on this video.

  • @wonderwall135 The book is pretty "dramatic" too.....just saying.

  • @wonderwall135 I'm sure you ...in all your wisdom and talent could have done much better. The world awaits your artistic masterpiece ! Get to work you lazy fuck.

  • Is it really one take ? As the blood marks disappear of the lens @4:08

    Anyway, awesome take

  • @jeromebressoud The blood was actually never on the lens, it was applied in special effects.

  • @matstornros Seems not ;)

"... In the middle of one shot, blood splattered onto the lens, and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki convinced the director to leave it in ..." (source wiki)

  • @matstornros ... and according the same source "... the battlefield scene 'was captured in five separate takes over two locations' ..."

  • @jeromebressoud I heard that the blood was an accident, and the director liked it, but didnt want blood on the lens for the entire shot, so they went back and painstakingly edited it out after a certain point.

  • @jeromebressoud that's not true..this is one shot. Where the fuck could you hide 5 cuts in here? that's impossible.

  • pure art it was incredible fuck oscars

  • Just an incredible shot. No idea how the amount of planning and skill that must have gone into that.

  • ARKASIA!

  • The scene that comes after this made me cry so hard.

  • @fox9ninja Why, Machika?

    ;n;

  • @Shotgun93Steve When the fighting stops... Yeah, I can totally relate.

  • Remind me of Half Life² somehow.

  • @Kapov same

  • @Kapov it reminds me HL2 too

  • @Kapov LOL I thought the same thinig when I watched this movie for the first time

  • @Kapov totally!

  • @Kapov You took the words out of my mouth.

  • Not really a big fan of modern sci-fi films but this one was amazing. Some of the best tracking shots since Max Ophuls became famous for them!

  • I sincerely hope that the world doesn't end up like this....

  • @murdock283 it's like this in some countries already. By world I'm guessing you mean Western world.

  • @murdock283 you obviously never heard of somolia

  • What is the point of keeping the blood on the screen? Is it supposed to remind us that we are indeed watching a movie? Kind of like French New Wave? I have not seen the movie (it is next on my Netflix list), so I don't know if it is part of the plot....

  • @Tiffawesomeness it was actually splashed onto the camera on accident, but one of the camera people/crew convinced the director to keep it on.

  • Whoa wtf no awe baby scene?!!! That was my favorite as their going down with the baby just such an awe moment...

  • what is this movie about?? it looks good

  • @Thezzzexybeast

women no longer give birth, the world is falling apart, main character must get a new born baby to safety

  • This sure is amazing cinematograph

  • That's gotta be a new cut at 3:57 where the screen goes completely black

  • 4:06 How does the blood disappear? Or what is not actually on the lens and just edited on there?

  • @multicuntmuffin yep, all in post!

  • @multicuntmuffin The blood splattering is real from the fake blood bags... the red spots slowly are edited out throughout the scene.

They did it in post production. They did very minimal takes... I think 3, but not sure and the best one is the one in which blood gets on the lens.

  • great shot... great movie... so underrated.

  • Wonderful. Reminds me of the uprising in HL2, but more touching.

  • Great Cinematography

  • Man, I love this movie. One of my favorites. I've seen it way too many times.

  • sounds effects are awful

  • @Kapov how? They seem great to me

  • This art style made sense in The Blair Witch Project. It makes sense, and is tolerable, for short burst moments where the story has an actual character filming a story sequence. But to film a whole movie this way, is bad bad bad. It pulls away from the immersion. Instead of the story being presented… I’m constantly thinking, what about the camera man. The camera man shouldn’t exist,… unless it fit’s the story sequence.

  • @OmegaX2Z shut up bastard

  • I absolutely hate "camera in hand" art style. There's nothing artistic about it. Thousands of people hate it, and for those that don't, they should. I know of at least 11 personnel friends that will walk away from a movie with this crappy art style shaking camera stuff. I’ve entered theaters where people will walk out from it, the moment it shows itself. It's like the camera men were too poor to film correctly. And my eyes hate it. It’s annoying. Just saying.

  • @OmegaX2Z fuck off. just saying.

  • @BrOkEnMiNdReDirEcTiT lol. Just my opinion, observation. What do you want, conformity? The story might be good, but I hate the camera work.

  • @OmegaX2Z no trolls just annoy me. if you hate the video dont watch and comment on it lol.

  • @OmegaX2Z it gives a more realistic and more of a feeling that you are in the scene in my opinion

  • @GuestOfGregoryHouseI know that's why they did it... but it doesn't make me feel that it's more realistic. I stand by my last post... which I made, because a group of friends sent this video to me as a link. We are not all gonna’ like the same things... and that's perfectly fine. I’ve met two “fans” who apparently love the movie and camera work. So the movie does have value for some… just not for me, and others like me.

  • The future

  • This movie is absolutely amazing, is in my top ten of all the time

  • Quite possibly one of the most underrated movies of the past decade. How was this not nominated for best picture? Better yet, how did this not win best cinematography or best editing?

  • i liked this movie very much ,but its ending is a bit abrupt , don't you think ?

  • One of my favorite long tracking shots in a film.

  • This must be wet dream of the Eddie izzards of today: an england which has the military capability to handle 35 junkies/militants and the resources to move refugees by the 100.000 once a week, despite a global harmagedon.

  • @pbeauch92 Blood was taken out in post production because the director felt it was too distracting.

  • still no Oscar for that

next time they should maybe shoot the whole movie in one take

the academy award is a joke

  • @XhavitDeari funny thing is, there's a rumour about Alfonso shooting his next scifi movie in one take. lol.

  • one of the best 'war' scenes i have ever scene

  • there are a few hidden cuts but to make it look this seamless and to have an uncut shot this long must have taken tons and tons of money and time choreographing and this is by far, my favorite work by this director apart from Prisoner of Azkaban.

  • For you film junkies out there, this a a pretty amazing scene. This was done in a single shot which makes you wonder how many times they may have had to redo it! Cleve, you ran right into the gun fire! RETAKE number 100!

  • best movie ever, in every aspect this movie fucking rules.

  • I think there's a cut in the blackness from 3:54 because the patterns of blood splatter on the lens change. I think they tried to replicate it but couldn't exactly. I did hear somewhere that there ARE disguised cuts in this shot, but it doesn't change how much of a hugely successful scene it is, technically.

  • I have to get this on Blu-ray.

  • This is one of the most terrifying films I have ever seen.

  • C418?

  • That this movie did not win Best Cinematography (or Picture, for that matter) at the Academy Awards is a disgrace. Children of Men is one of the greatest films of all time! Period!

  • Thumbs up if this is like "The Northern Ireland, The Troubles", only difference is your in England.

  • Contrary to popular belief this was not actually all one shot, it is actually 5 takes done over a week lol

There are 4 seemless blends in this take, I have found one, at 4:04 when the blood disapears.

    Can anybody else find anymore??

  • people need to get over this whole 'british are better/americans are better' debate, its immature & ridiculous. Can you please just quit the bitching and enjoy watching some cinematic excellence that totally follows a unique path in action that isn't stereotypical hollywood style. This film excels in showing that you don't need a shit ton a CGI to make a film brilliant, all you need is a brilliant storyline and well choreographed sequences, this film is a true example of brilliance!

  • @dixonrussell So true, I would complain with a lot of people that the English Films were better than American, but after reading your comment I agree it is Immature and ridiculous.

  • That looked like one continuous shot. Amazing.

  • @NIKONGUY1960 it was one continuous shot. one of the best long takes ever

  • @wdsa8d No there were cuts. Just extremely well hidden cuts.

  • @Corroidz whoops you're right sorry, i read an article about the hidden cuts

  • @wdsa8d Hey, it's all good. Haha. I had to watch 3 times just to notice blood splatter vanishing at 4:01

  • One of my favorite scenes in movie history. Just brilliant cinematography.

  • Incredible scene. This is what I pray to see when I go to the movies.

  • The cat and the chickens don't give a fuck

  • Cool the way the White Rasta dies, after all that has happened with him he gets taken out by a lucky burst from an attacker and that's it, no ceremony, death is that sudden.

  • Did someone read ou hear something about those blood splatters ? I know they weren't added in post-production but can't find anything about how they disappear. When watching the scene on a big screen it becomes obvious there is no cut @3:56, and since the biggest splatter seems to be attenuated @3:54 before they totally disappear, I guess they have been removed in post-production. But as I said I can't find anything about this, so if someone knows more about it... Anyway, amazing scene.

  • Comment removed

  • @Bananawarlol I read somewhere that the shot was digitally removed as the shot continued so its not too distracting.

  • @Bananawarlol They are digital and they were added into the shot and faded out. Not sure where you heard otherwise but yeah.

  • this is one of the most incredible things i've ever seen on a screen

  • simply one of the most incredible films of all time, this scene is a big reason why.

  • Filming this must have been a nightmare!

  • The blood spatter that lands on the lens when Clive Owen's character seeks cover in the bus was an accident. When DP Emmanuel Luzbeki saw it, he was upset, but it director Alfonso Cuaron loved it as it sold the "you are there, this is happening" feel of this sequence in the film. Easily one of my favourite movies.

  • This entire sequence goes on for like 20 minutes without a single cut!! That is just mindblowing!!

  • I would sure hate to do a retake on this shot

  • A shot like this almost seems impossible, but it's perfection and very groundbreaking.

  • This shows the genius of Charlie Hunnam, he has a relatively small role in the film but he steals every scene he's in.

  • i watched this film today and i thought it was probably one of the best films ive ever seen EASILY, then i started seeing that a few people didnt like it or missed the point, and after I watched the trailers I realised why

the trailers would have ruined any sort of suspence or mystery the film had

    great movie, terrible trailers

  • Best long take in film. perfect for this film.

  • I love the lack of actual music, allowing you to hear every shout, every bullet, every ricochet, and every breath.

This movie is fantastic, I just wish more 15 year olds would pay more attention to movies instead of thinking that Transformers is a piece of cinematic excellence.

  • @NothinGtODisplay1 I'm 15 and to me a piece of Cinematic Excellence are films like My Fair Lady, Apollo 13, Schindlers List, The Kings Speech, Children of Men, Master and Commander, The Social Network, The Fugitive, True Grit, Braveheart, etc. don't really like Transformers, but I do enjoy The Dark Knight, but no where near as much as the list I have above.

  • @NothinGtODisplay1 thanks for stereotyping my whole generation... (by the way most of us are conscient that 95% of the transformer serie is explosions, bullets, car chases, and hot chicks. Which is why it's fun to watch from time to time. but that doesn't mean I can't be a lord of the rings fan too.)

    GET YO FACTS RIGHT FOOL.

  • @CinderellaROfficial

whe i saw that girl figthing Megatron ( ___" you shot i drive " ) and not even breaking a nail or geting dirty, all my transformers hopes whent to hell... Thank god there movies that take away the madness of making money hollywood cinema. BRAVO CUARON!!

  • @memofly29 Usually I try not to put my standards to high when I watch a Michael Bay movie, I just relax and enjoy!

  • @NothinGtODisplay1 agreed! I am 15 as well, This is such a brilliant well written film.

  • @NothinGtODisplay1 I'm 15 and I've always hated the Transformers movies. Ever since I was 13, I was like "The fuck is this shit".

This, on the other-hand is pure cinematic genius.

  • @NothinGtODisplay1 Transformers is a piece of technical genius, not cinematic in my opinion :)

  • @NothinGtODisplay1

jajaja TRANSFORMERS is the largest GM comercial ever, saddly i can find any person that not like it, i feel lonly around twiglights, transformers, resident evils, adam sandlers and will smiths.

  • @NothinGtODisplay1 Don't worry man, I first saw this when I was 14 (I'm 16 now) and it is one of my favourite films!

  • @NothinGtODisplay1 im 13 and i think this movie is incredible

  • @NothinGtODisplay1 I'm sorry, it's good but to say this is a piece of cinematic excellence is a bit far fetched. It's just people running away from bullets. Well done, but nothing to read into.

  • @jnberger you didn't read that comment, it seems

  • @NothinGtODisplay1 I'm fifteen and I see Tree of Life as a piece of cinematic brilliancy.

  • "Look around you... It's the uprising."

  • blood splatters disappear at 4:08...just wondering how.

  • @ajaydotcom they were added in post-production

  • @247dman

As far as I know, they weren't added in post-production. Some (fake) blood apparently splattered on the camera during filming. They were removed in post-production after a while, as they would have been visually distracting.

  • @ajaydotcom I believe at 3:56, when the camera pans through the black there is a cut. After this the drops would have been super imposed onto the screen, and as you can see they disappear at different times, simply by fading out the blood splatter graphics. Don't know if it's true, but it's how I would have done this.

  • @JosefGatti Yeah makes sense! :P this is an epic shot in any case....also liked the atonement one.

  • @ajaydotcom

They removed the blood digitally because the spots would have become too distracting during the later parts of the shot.

  • jax teller 1:44

  • How did the camera man survive?

  • @habbocarl agreed--but the visual design was actually inspired by A Clockwork Orange, which gives it that decadent subtlety. wonder if half-life 2 was inspired by Clockwork as well? :D

BTW i personally love how the baby only starts crying around the time that Luke dies. it's like a philosophical easter egg!

  • Love this movie. Anyway did anyone else notice the fact that at the end of this scene, the soldiers begin to move into this building and up to the other floors. Then theo and the baby leave and then they start shooting up the place right away? with all of those friendlies inside....movie mistake?

  • @2323jgrant one of the rebels shot a rocket at the soldiers.

  • @facecheek Thats not the point im trying to make.. i know that the rebels fired a rocket..but that building is full of friendly soldiers at that point and they just open fire on it.

  • @2323jgrant friendlies were a few floors below rebel fire, although if anything it's a reactionary move by the outside force

  • @habbocarl Exactly what I was thinking!

  • I want his coat

  • this has too be one of the best shots in a movie ever

  • Why didn't Warner took him back for the last Harry Potter!!??Even Rowling wanted him to return! The last movies could have been brillant pieces of cinematography,instead....

  • this scene alone should have gotten the cinematographer an oscar

  • 216 likes and 0 dislikes impressive!!!

  • I love how theres no dislikes

  • put muses uprising song to this ahhahaha

  • THE BIBLE SAYS ONE DAY THE WORLD WOULD BE LIKE THIS.

  • This scene blows my mind every time.

  • @jackweyant5 Watch the movie, stupid.

  • Strangely, this Mexican director clearly has some pretty conservative views on immigration.

Some have said that this film is about the despair of late-capitalism.

I think it’s about despair caused by naïve immigration policies and failed multi-culturalism leading to Balkanised society.

Pretty much like modern Britain really.

It’s a much better film than 28 days later to which I often mentally compare it.

  • @CharlesDickens99 Why cant you just acknowledge him as a director instead of a Mexican Director.... He is perhaps one of the greatest directors to have ever worked along with Almodovar. You know Mexican Film is a brand of its own right. not everyone likes hollywood.

  • @CharlesDickens99

    um get fucked

the movie is based on a book

and as for your "mental" comparing to 28 days later

    its "mental" alright..

  • @CharlesDickens99 You're a fucking moron. How do you figure that depicting an oppressive government crackdown on immigration expresses the director's conservative viewpoint on immigration? This movie is clearly waaaaay over your head. Go back to school, ignoramus.

  • Brilliant ;]

  • Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima is the fucked up music.

  • By faaaaaaar one of the best scenes filmed in cinematic history. It has such a real feel to it like your there. The stray bullets flying around hitting people and the no mercy rules of engagement.

  • actually the best scene of the movie starts RIGHT after this clip ended.

  • feel like playing half life 2 :3

  • @VinceM51 Lol, I totally know what you mean. Rebels vs Combine, but the rebels in this case (or the "Fishes") don't seem nearly as cheery or eager to get mowed down like in HL2. Also, they killed the big Russian guy :(

  • @Hissanrach Yeah.. The common link is the dystopian world. I <3 Dystopian fiction.
