The bloke with the camera has got rocks in his head, anyone in there right mind would have stayed the hell away from that area, the next quake or downpour of rain will send that area down, bloody crazy for going there, if something was to happen then others would have to risk there necks to help his sorry arse...
I lived with my parents on Whiewash Head Rd 30 years ago and spent many happy hours wandering Flowers track and on the Head. It is tragic to see this beautiful place reduced to rubble.
I feel so sorry for you. I was involved in the same earthquakes as you but we didn't get half the damage you got. I send my hope and my support to you and your family.
@Kidrocker000 Yeeeees. I was a kid and the house burnt down. I lived in fear that the new house would burn down too and banned dad from lighting up the element to light his ciggies. He quit the cigs. I loved living in CHCH but I am so glad I am not living there now. I hope all people relocate. I would have everyone in CHCH live with me for free if I had the house.
@nuclearrace That would be a bitchin' house. But remember, most of NZ is on or near a source of natural "disasters" so I dont think leaving really makes a difference.
I used to live on Scarborough, walked up Whitewash and along the back track a thousand times. I wonder how Flowers Track is now. I'm so sad to see it all so destroyed. Thank god no one was hurt.
No. 40 Whitewash Head Rd. used to belong to me! Can't believe the new owners have all this 'grief' to deal with. I used to walk my dog up this track every day. Very sad!
Wow, I remember that place.. many beers have been drunk and joints smoked up on the lookout. Sad, very sad. But heck, you're brave.. and very lucky. One good aftershock could've dropped you into the sea. Our poor little city is all but destroyed and still this won't end.
Far Out Ive delivered concrete up here for that house several times and have had to back up that whole road, it was dodgy before the quake but thats crazy!!!! million dollar view ae no thanks!!!, we had a 10 tonne limit on that road so could only take our small trucks up there
Though you put your life in you hands, as a Sumner person I totally get why you went up there. This walk has been a huge part of my life, all my life. It was a such a special place. To see it like that is just unbelievable. I can't actually get that it isn't there anymore. God, what is going to happen? Houses are so close to where you were.
Man,you got big nuts buddie shooting that! da man! hahaha I used to run up that track with ma bro's many a time back in the days..can't believe it's just 'chopped off' in parts...daaam
I was actually leaning back trying to will you to not go there.. How absolutely dangerous.. A sad landscape.. now its easy to see how NZ fell off Australia millions of years ago... The land just breaks.
I live here and was jumping the barrier to walk that part after Feb quake. It was scary enough then and a real risk as huge cracks were running across the clifftop. This is an EPIC video. You were genuinely in an enormous amount of danger doing that, I cant believe what I was watching!! Please please do not go near that cliff edge again. The rest of it will fall soon and your life is precious so dont risk it dude:)
this made me laugh, sorry but wtf are you even going near there? im glad you're OK though!!! (it was a wtf laugh, not a hahah suffer laugh, im in CHCH)
This only goes to prove how moronic the 'powers-that-be' are. They won't let business people, who have the lively-hood of themselves and their employees to think about, get into the CBD to retrieve crucial equipment and info. But they allow any one with a mind to, to roam around this area. BAH!!!!!
Gerry-bloody-Brownlee is a failed school teacher who should be tarred and feathered.
Holy Shit!!! can you tell me how much has been shaved off the cliffs of the area please? and @ Liquidsolidity, I agree with mass creation, stfu u stupid c***, we need to see this, and it guts like this dude, to have shown the rest of us.
Amazing. I appreciate the footage - but I have to say, I yelled at you throughout this video. Glad you weren't more reckless, though not sure how that could even be possible.
Thanks for the footage but please don't risk it again. I was surprised they had not roped off by the building site (with no access now), but didn't dare go further. There is more to fall yet as is shown by your shots. It was horrifying to see a favourite walkway gone like that. I will really miss watching the birds playing on the thermal air currents. Take care.
I am going to guess that most of where you were filming now resides at the bottom of the cliff as a result of Friday's earthquakes?
