I watched Tyler Perry's new show on TBS "For better or for worse" and I was utterly disgusted with actor Tasha Smith as she commence to curse and burn and rant in the parking lot of her husbands studio. I thought to myself, man. I've seen this time and time again. I like the show and think it will do well but sometimes when I look at some of the scenes that made it into the final show I'm like this is embarrassing! What Tyler is doing isn't new. We've acknowledged that character exists and is present in these communities, however there are other characters that exist as well. As you noted, Spike is entitled to his opinion and in no way is his criticism trampling progress.

I thought to myself, man. I've seen this time and time again. @ALLPURX700 While there are people whose characters parallel that of Madea's, that character has been portrayed abundantly through the years (see Shanana from Martin, Jamie Foxx's character on Living Color, Tommy Davidson, and others). What Tyler is doing isn't new. We've acknowledged that character exists and is present in these communities, however there are other characters that exist as well. As you noted, Spike is entitled to his opinion and in no way is his criticism trampling progress.

you know i was watching the entertainment segment on fox chicago about the making of the tuskegee airman directed by george lucas (star wars). the WHITE correspondent was talking about the racial injustices back then with black fighter pilots and how some of that still exists today. he went on to say that hollywood would not back this movie because it has a all black cast and george lucas was forced to pay the $300 million out of his own pocket just to get this movie released.
