wow- beyond lobby is a sxit hole-carpets dirty ad musky ad bad need of shampooing,i caught the maids using lemon pledge and said thats what they mop the floors with,pledge and a rag lol--or room was stole train tickets by the maids-hotel staff and security was no help at all.we were over charged-def not worth the money they ask-beware they say no depositbut they do charge one---will never waste m moey there again-because of the thief maids-i had to pay 1000 just to get me n my kids bak home

This hotel is often compared to the Hotel Carter: The Ultimate Shithole. Also, you know a hotel sucks when a promotional video puts scathing jazz music and shows pictures of New York City INSTEAD OF THE HOTEL. I hope the fire last year burned down the entire hotel, not just a few rooms.
i'm staying here with some friends in easter, i've heard the rooms are terrible. But to be honest i've slept with 4 people in a two man tent in scotland in febuary, i really doubt i'm going to care about a bit of paint peeling off the walls
Buyer beware!! This hotel is simply awful!! Small dirty rooms, dirty carpets, dirty linen, dirty bathrooms, simply disgusting!! I stayed and gave up complaining on how piss poor this place was, it was really bad! DO NOT STAY HERE!! Awful and disgusting! As soon as you got off the lift on your floor, you could smell piss and musty dirtyness!!
During my holiday in NYC last year in August I stayed at this hotel actually I checked in just before the fire on 10th floor, my room was dirty, crapy service, an overall bad experience I recommend The Skyline Hotel if you plan to visit NYC.

Actually developers have been wanting to knock the hotel down for a while now but the landmark preservation society won't allow it. The problem is, the hotel is not only very old and run down but its also enormous. Knocking it down and building a new one would be cheaper. Restoring the hotel to its original glory would cost a bundle. You can see from the outside at one time it was a magnificent hotel. In a city full of monotonous glass and steel towers it would be nice if they could restore it.
....ive stayed here in the past. The 1st room we got was absolutely awful, the carpets were soaking wet and the electric sockets were hanging off the wall!! The next room we got was tiny, dirty and smelly. The bathroom looked as though it hadnt been up dated since the 30s!! Truely awful experience!! Ive heard the same from a lot of other travellers too! Knock the place down and start again
I'm from the UK and I got back from here yesterday. I'm gonna upload a tour of the hotel (from the door to my room) to see what the world thinks of it. It a lovely lobby, great location but crappy rooms.
stayed there a month ago an it was sweet couldnt fault the place, didnt like the 1st room we got so went to reception and told them, straight away offered a new room that was sooooooo nice and right in front of empire state, whoever moans about this place is either too minted or too thick
this hotel was shocking for us when we stayed there in november. all the ceiling in the bathroom was flaking and there were pubes in the sink! booked a triple room n the 3rd bed was a rollaway and we had to move the tv cabinet and desk to fit it!

I was there mith my wife in may this year. I agree the only good thigs are the lobby and the location.
The room was really lowsy. Even, the last day, walking trought the long alley in 12 floor I saw a big rat running from one room to another....

Hi, in the rooms there is internet via cable. When I stayed there they told me it costs 10 dollar a day.
But when I used it i didn't have to pay anything.

Almost every building in New York is old and ancient. I dunno...sleeping in such buildings give me the creeps.

Yeah, watch out of the cockroaches in this hotel...they are EVERYWHERE. $50 credit for discovering the problem...hmmm....greaaaat.

I used to stay at this hotel back in the 70's.
They used to be beautiful until the foreigners started buying up the properties.
Now the old hotels are mostly filthy and decadent and they charge you outrageous prices.

This is my favorite hotel sinds 1998 , and i come in this hotel every year for 7-8 nights.
The rooms ars great and clean . The staf are very very nice and the location is the best !
