There's no written dogma that can support or defend the ideas of people like stalin. So, it's not for atheists to defend the ideas of power hungry men. If YOU believe in god, doesn't that still make them GOD's creation? Within religious text there is so much that can attempt to defend, repent, or support deeds of ANYONE, even atheists. So that's the problem, atheists don't pretend their position is perfect, but religion constantly claims supremacy.

@IvanAgram the list of atrocities that people TRY to credit to atheism is MUCH smaller than the list of atrocities that were done in the name of religion. Stalin tried to rid religion, but was not an atheist. Pol Pot, buddhist. Mao allegedly believed in gods. Once religion is gone, I won't need the damn word and I'll gladly drop it, But as long as people like the westboro church are around, I'll continue to attack the ability for people to create an external authority thru dogma to defend their selfish ways. @IvanAgram within christianity is a symbol of a man who is sent to speak the truth, who thinks differently, who speaks against the religion at that time, to be dubbed a blasphemer and killed. A vicious circle. I think a savior would have just as hard of a time in modern times.
