People are panicking about tax rates, which fundamentally haven't been altered since bush years. Socialist economies are like communist economies, they are centrally planned. However, instead of having government direct output of private industries in a communist economy, socialist economies control the economic direction of a country through taxation.
@Sikraj the reason why people claim Obama is a socialist is because he supports re-distribution of wealth to a limited degree, which means progressive taxation (a reversal of Bush's tax regime), as opposed to blanket taxation. He also supports free medical and affordable education, as well as social security programs, which are also common in Socialist nations. However, he doesn't subscribe to central market planning, nor does he use taxation as a measure of limiting output.

Socialism is a government controlled redistribution of wealth, taking from the rich and giving to the poor basically. Obama has said so many times that he will be redistributing the wealth. People are panicking about tax rates, which fundamentally haven't been altered since bush years. Socialist economies are like communist economies, they are centrally planned. However, instead of having government direct output of private industries in a communist economy, socialist economies control the economic direction of a country through taxation.

@Sikraj the reason why people claim Obama is a socialist is because he supports re-distribution of wealth to a limited degree, which means progressive taxation (a reversal of Bush's tax regime), as opposed to blanket taxation. He also supports free medical and affordable education, as well as social security programs, which are also common in Socialist nations. However, he doesn't subscribe to central market planning, nor does he use taxation as a measure of limiting output.

Yes, Obama, this vitriol did happen before in American history. Look at all this demonization of Bush. Bush had to deal with personal attacks by leftists. He was compared to a Nazi, called a war criminal and even now many leftists want to see him on trial and in jail. Many of them were happy to see a shoe thrown at him. The government taxing you to pay for health insurance (what you described as Forced Charity) is NOT Socialism AT ALL.
If it were true socialism, nothing would have been forced.
Every citizen would have been given an opportunity to DIRECTLY vote to approve or reject the decision by the government, which evidently was not the case.

With mandates, the state is forcing you to do something in which you have no real say.
Regardless of political stance - whether you vote democrat, republican, or third party - the odds of taxes ever being eliminated is practically zero.
There is also the fact that you cannot decide how your tax dollars are spent. Pacifists must pay for wars, and classists must pay for welfare, so yes, taxes do characterize a non-democratic exercise of state power; authoritative power

You don't get your say on everything, but that's the basis for a representative *democracy*. You can vote against Obama at the next election if you want to seek a reversal of policy.
Regardless of whether the elimination of taxes is popular, it is still autocratic under your definition; perhaps more so because you can't vote against taxes as a principle.

If you look at the real facts, Obama is in fact a socialist, but what is socialism? Socialism is a government controlled redistribution of wealth, taking from the rich and giving to the poor basically. Obama has said so many times that he will be redistributing the wealth. Are you too blind to notice his real agenda? He wants America to be a oligarchy or maybe a monarchy, but he is against a democratic republic. This was proven by the majority of Americans opposed to that health care bill.

But like I've stated in a few of my previous posts, you can't understand the ideology of socialism with out reading socialist texts to gain some CONTEXT. True socialism is about collective worker ownership of their means of subsistence. Read Marx's "The Communist Manifesto" to gain that context.

The Government is not going to own the health care industry. If anything, they have contributed to the capitalist market by mandating insurance companies new customers.
