tmbee0675, you are wrong there. They are born with either normal tails or "bobbed" tails. Bobbed tails refer to tails that are shorter than a normal tail length would be. The tails are docked on most unless the natural bob is extremely short. Usually though even the natrual bobs are docked as the tail length often grows too long for the breed standard. I have had Aussies for over 20 years and I hate docking tails. I wish our country would follow others and ban docking.
did you guys know that when both parent's tails are docked/cut, their puppies can have spinal problems? It a fact:) Still i love these dogs, with a tail would be better
@Brenda92115 Unless its genetic it cannot effect the pups. Thats like saying because a dog looses its leg due to a car hitting it that its pups will be born without a leg.
@tmbee0675 They can be born with, without and with a 1/3s tail. In the states, like 99% of all breeds cut of the tails when the pups are barely born. So they have those docked tails. But in many countries it's forbidden to dock tails, so they come in all lenghts. You didn't know that?
its weird seeing aussies with tails ;p all the aussies ive worked with were born with no tails or they had been docked.....my boy Abu was born with a natural docked tail..its hilarious to watch him try and shake it, his whole butt shakes :p lol
My sister has a Assie (though he thinks that he is my dog) he is a red tri and he has a docked tail... i wish he had a full tail though. either way they are adorable!
My aussie pupps will never have to worry about their tails cut off we are holding till their past 8 weeks so no owner can doc them i think it's more natural for them to have the tail any way,,Imo their better ballanced
Docking is still done to these dogs. I have one and didn't know that the breeder docked his tail before he was sold to us. We only found out after we looked at his puppy pictures...and all the puppies had tails. Cruel IMO. Docking obviously isn't illegal in Canada.

We didn't dock our Aussie's tails. They look fine to us. However, they are a perfect height to clear the coffee table with it. :)

Wait a minute.... an Aussie with a tail? It looks wrong!
All the puppies from our Luci-Fur were born without a tail, which really surprised me but I have to say that I like them better like that.
Cute pups by the way...

My blue merle was docked at birth, and I'm happy, because there were many times during her cow herding, that she would have had it crushed already.

not all pups are born with full tails, my three year old has his natural short tail which is still longer than breed standard.

Docking is stricly illegal here (sweden) so I can't see anything more UN-natural than a dog without?!

I have five Australian Shepherds and they were all born with tails. Can't get any more natural than that.

I personally think Australian shepherds with tails look ridiculous. Gorgeous markings on the blue merle, though.
