  • I love Stephen even more now that I know I have the same shoes as him!

  • In England, "zits" are called "spots".

  • How strange to think that Stephen Fry could end up taking some stranger down the street and dropping them off, like a typical cab driver, without the person riding with him noticing who he is.

What a cool thought. Actually being in a vehicle with Stephen Fry, that is. Not the fact that he might go unrecognized by the average person off the street.

  • Craig Furguson is one of the best American TV show hosts. He just has a more relaxed, laid back attitude to help the conversation flow naturally as you would at a bar, or in a cab perhaps.. And Stephen couldn't be a better guest for a host as he is extremely intellligent and has such a way with words, that he can make a conversationalist out of anyone he converses with. He's 21st century Oscar Wilde.

  • From now on, I'll always take a look at the driver when taking a black cab (which I didn't ever do yet coz there are no black cabs in austria ;D But if I happen to be in England...)

  • And the winner is........ Alan Davies!

  • If Stephen Fry wasn't gay, I'd marry him straight away

  • Stephen Fry is just about the only "celebrity" I have any time for. Intelligent, well-read, witty, urbane and yet thoroughly decent and modest. A fine man. And if he's gay...so what? Looks like it's one nil to the gay community.

  • Stephen Fry is so beautiful to me. Wonderful mind, beautiful soul. One of the few people I'm genuinely a fan of.

  • d'aww... Craig made Stephen all blushy at 2:40 .... <3 too cute

  • I'd get in his cab anytime.

  • SF is the best!

  • He nailed flying perfectly. It is incredibly easy to fly, but navigation is REALLY annoying.

  • That's crazy, he goes around in a cab and occasionally people get in...! It must be great fun.

  • Shame that teh host ha Americanised himself: he's annoying and not funny

  • BRITAIN FTW!

    I WANNA MOVE THERE!

  • "Westminster Bridge, and drive like hell!"

  • NICE SHOES!! 8D I love it when he wears Converse.

  • You can tell Fry is a national treasure just by how every Brit (or United Kindomian) defends him :)

Love it. Fry for god! :P

  • it must be incredibly lonely in your corner. quite sad to see that you are not dispelling the stereotype of 51st staters being just as ignorant as their southern neighbors by spewing insults from a superficial perspective. instead of scoffing at foreign culture, you should learn from it.

    cheers moron. c[-]

  • Stephen Fry is actually a very self-deprecating and humble man. Just because he has a posh accent and a large vocabulary doesn't mean he's self serving. I find it hard to see how you came up with this idea. Perhaps you should listen to his podcasts, free on iTunes, or read his autobiography - 'Moab is my Washpot'.

  • @MMMerangue You are very correct. And furthermore he IS a VERY intelligent man.

  • @MMMerangue Yeah exactly. I'm pretty intelligent and have a good written form and vocabulary (though I'm not posh, it's just luck) and people often call me arrogant or think I'm full of it when... as you say, they're often just hearing a level of intellect and concluding THAT is arrogant in itself. As if NOT being a moron is an offense, HOW DARE YOU SPEAK PROPERLY AND ANALYZE THINGS is their general thought process.

But you're right, he's very self-deprecating. As are many who get called it.

  • @TheEminemBase woe to us all who can take a joke and expand it intuitively without uh and duhs jamming our coherency. yeah, it's just a common trait in humans to categorized things and cast out things that are not within their comprehension capabilities. All the -ism is not going away when being clever is succintly prejudiced upon.

  • @TheEminemBase

Telling people that you aren't arrogant, just rather intelligent, probably doesn't help to be honest.

  • You know nothing about him then. He hardly has an ego. He suffers from lack of self-esteem and bipolar disorder and is pretty much one of the kindest people in the world.

  • You got it so backwards it's incredibly sad. Stephen Fry is a giant teddy bear. As someone else said, simply because he speak with a posh accent and has a large vocabulary doesn't mean he has a big ego. Having a big ego means you say things like 'I'M BRILLIANT AND YOU'RE ALL SHIT!" He's incredibly intelligent and funny. He's actually known for having very low self esteem and a bi-polar disorder that nearly drove him to suicide as a young man. Look up some of his stuff, he's fantastic.

  • @Transformergirl haha he is like a giant teddy bear ! yeah i heard he also got kicked out of school and stuff when he was younger, so it shows how amasing it is that he changed things around for himself, which is another thing i admire him for

  • @Alexandrarghh Yeah he got kicked out of 2 schools and was then sent to prision at 18 for credit card fraud....Amazing he managed to end up in Cambridge!

  • Ha! "Cabaraderie"! He drives a London cab!? That's awesome. Stephen Fry is impossibly adorable, even with a substantial tum. Although I believe he's lost weight since this interview.

I wish more people in America knew who he was.

  • He never gets old, or boring! What a gift!

  • If I got into a cab and Stephen was driving it, I would instantly orgasm.

  • nothing involuntary about it

  • I'd like to thank you for making my day with that comment.

  • @lisambofoh and he wouldnt be intrested he`s gay

  • @lisambofoh and he wouldnt be intrested he`s gay,he was bullied at school and to stop it he would say "no no dont touch me you`ll give me an erection" pmsl brilliant

  • @lisambofoh That's a weird paraphilia

  • @lisambofoh I would go bankrupt.....

  • I drove cab for 10 years and he's right nobody ever notices the cabbie, even when they are doing something illegal BUT they expect you to always remember them. If I had a nickel for every time I heard "home James (I'm not called James) and don't spair the horses" why I'd be filthy rich!

  • ooh i do love stephens shoes...they are frightfully lovely

  • They look like 1970's Converse All-Stars

  • stephens such a legend

  • I'm officially getting into every cab in London, just on the off-chance!

  • you have no idea how brilliant he is

  • Dude there's such a thing as oversharing. And I think they were referring to his talents as an actor, not penis size.

  • I would totally lose it if I jumped in a cab and realized Stephen Fry was driving it!

  • Me too!

  • I would suddenly realise I needed to be dropped off in Glasgow, and could he drive me there?

  • wtf?

  • Fry Rules OK!

  • "West Minster Bridge and drive like Hell" OMGosh I almost died i was laughing so much when he said that part ;}

  • i'm always dreaming of some cable tv exchange between the whole of the "british isles" and the u.s. so that we can get each other's channels and therefore understand each other's culture (if just thru small bit that pop culture would provide)and not just believe the completely stupid stereotypes we have toward one another

  • we understand each other fine. brits are like our in-laws. sometimes we bicker but at the end, we know we are all just a big family.

  • Sorry to be pedantic, but we're Britons, not Brits! I never refer to US citizens as Yanks, because I know the difference!

I must say I was disappointed to hear Craig Ferguson (a Scot) refer to Britain as 'England', which is akin to calling the USA the 'mid West'.

If it's any consolation, many of our school leavers also have problems finding the UK on a map ;-)

  • Charming. So much for a self-deprecating comment in a jovial manner. It was obviously an utter waste of time trying to be friendly in a light-hearted way... Shame.

  • Tri-lingul? Evidently, I am not as esteemed as a salesman...

How (former) profession has anyy bearing on this I have no idea. You are getting boring. Dude.

  • The difference, of course, being between 'insular' and 'ignorant'.

  • duh?

  • Yes, the difference you, in reference to probably 95% of cases, make wrongly.

What other languages did you speak when you were sucking the devil's cock?(If you work in advertising you are the scum of the earth)

Oh, and i once knew somebody who worked in Foster and Partners, albeit a janitor, but this instantly made him a figure of great intellectual esteem and therefore his countrymen fell into this category alongside him. You fucking mug.

  • WTH? I hope you're joking for your sake. Best wishes for your mental health.

  • Best wishes for your conscience after you sold your soul to the devil.

You are tri lingual? Which languages?

  • english, japanese, korean. why do you hate advertising so much?

  • Why do i hate everything revolving around money? Why do i hate being stalked by tv commercials, poster adverts, radio commercials, adverts on busses ate every turn? Why do i hate rampant capitalism? I am not a communist, just somebody with morals.

  • all right. then why do you think capitalism essentially a mixed economy - is so inherently evil?

  • capitalism is not 'essentially a mixed economy'. The elite, capitalist, industrialist people control governments, how can this possibly be good? I'm not a conspiracy nut, this sort of thing is proveable. Everything revolving around money - you don't see the innate badness in this? Greed, unregulated and rampant capitalism is what has put the world in its current recession.

  • kinda interesting. got to go but be back in about a half a day.

  • Yes, common people should have more control over government. Our economy should be better regulated. And, yes, it would be nice to live in a world that the public sphere is not dominated by the competition over available resource (money in your term). We are trying all those, and everybody is aware that our system isn't perfect. So what's your point besides saying something very obvious in kind of a crazy and illogical way? Do you have a better alternative? Actually, you're pretty boring.

  • If i'm boring why reply? What was illogical about what i said? I was simply drawing attention to the fact that 'i used to work for saatchi and saatchi' is not something most people would consider impressive, not to mention an example of intelligence or enlightenment. No system will please everybody, but the wrong people are disaffected by the current system. Common people should have complete control over the government, not just the ceremonial tablescraps we are given.

  • i'm sorry, but you cannot just change the subject from capitalism to me unless you at least answer my two questions from my previous comment. i've been answering your questions but you're not doing the same. so go back and answer them, then i'll answer yours.

  • I answered your question - my point was there is nothing good about working for saatchi and saatchi, so why brag. And i said that NO SYSTEM pleases universally, but the wrong people are disaffected. In other words, no i dont have the nobel-peace-prize-winning alternative you cretin.

  • So you are very weirdly opinionated, but you don't really have anything useful to offer to us because you don't know how to replace or fix our capitalist system, right? Btw, I didn't say that working for Saatchi was good or bad. I didn't think I was bragging about it, either. I brought that up with me being multilingual to imply that I am well traveled, multicultural and have worked in a profession that is fairly liberal than conservative. I can guess why you thought I was bragging, though.

  • Better to disagree with an amoral system then to stoically serve it.

  • You may disagree with capitalism, but you also serve and feed that same system every time you purchase products, use the internet, public road, etc.... So unless you're completely self-subsistent or actively doing something pragmatic to fix or replace our system, then, as far as I can see, you're just a deeply insecure and naive person who likes to blame the system or rant on the internet about whatever because the world hasn't been very kind to you. There are millions of you in the world.

  • My keyboard also sticks ;-)

  • can you elaborate what you meant by that?

  • Hey, I'm Canadian! We're like the younger brother of both of you, who gets way better grades and is way better at sports (well, hockey anyways).

  • Arent Britons a Celtic tribe that the British Isles are named after? In what sense are you Britons? Id think most of you were anglo-saxons, with a bit of viking, french, and celtic blood mixed in.

  • Britain is taken from the name 'Britannia', given to the isles by the Romans. however, Britons are a mixture of normans, saxons, vikings, celts and, after the fall of the empire, asians, africans, south americans etc etc....

  • briton is the name given to the "native" population of Britain. Most it now seems just merged with the Saxon/Pict/Viking/Norman invaders rather than being killed like was first thought.

St Paddy was a "Briton" from the north west of England

  • I'm ashamed to say this, but the first time i saw Alex Rider I had no idea who Stephen Fry was, i forget when the movie came out but some time after that i started to get into A Bit of Fry and Laurie, Blackadder, Jeeves and Woster, ect... and the only reason i watched this movie a secong time was because I found out that he was in it... luv him, y am I telling you this, lol!

  • fry is so amazing and ultra intelligent no other like him

  • The wheels on the plane go round and round!!! lol.

  • I love Hugh Laurie but he cant hold a candle to Mr. Fry! I wish his profile in the States would rise just so 300 million more people could bask in his witty glow!

  • Absolutely. America needs a bit of Fry.

  • totally agree. There's just nobody in the States that comes close to him! He really ought to be cloned for the good of the world :)

  • can`t be easy going on a US chat show when they don`t know who you are, Fry is great.

  • i think he won the audience over though

  • I would hope so but not sure he appeals to a mass American audience have you ever seen him present the baftas, very British/Cambridge humour.

  • oh my god - my mother, (who's getting on a bit) always confuses ewan macgregor with ian macewin. that is too coincidental!

  • I love how the clip is his ONLY scene in Alex Rider. I really wasted 6 bucks at Blockbuster on that one

  • i love stephen fry! he is intelligent, funny and incredibly talented! i am, however, somewhat surprised that an american audience knew who he was. i wasn't aware that he has a high profile over there, am i right or am i just being ignorant?

  • he has been in a few things here. bones is quite popular. but nothing close to his fame in england i don't think. everyone seems to know hugh laurie though so that might have been some automatic love for stephen simply becuase he is connected to hugh. they have some simalar mannerisms i think.

  • Actually Ferguson is from Scotland, a completely different entity to England. He's not that upper class, either. Apart from that, you're completely right.

  • actually neither hugh nor stephen are upper class but more upper-middle class according to traditional british class stratification.

  • silence pleb.

  • he doesn't actually. especially not in celebrity-drenched LA where this show is taped. It's just that late night talk shows do get some difficulty booking guests AND i always noticed that up until very recently, Ferguson wasn't enjoying too many high-profile guests. Of course fry's star shines very blindingly elsewhere but to answer your question, no, not so much in america.

  • Stephen is brilliant! I love him and Alan Davies on QI.

  • I love Fry!! Cabaraderie!lol!

  • Fry is supremely intelligent.

  • haha craig. 'oh i think theres something between us' only him:P cutieee

  • Actually you're supposed to call them IONA -

Islands of the North Atlantic ;-)

As long as no one calls the UK England I'm happy.

  • Actually the correct term is the Irish Isles.

How does that sound to you Brits?

  • Britain (England,Scotland,VVales) is the largest island. VVe could also call it The Man Isles (Ilse of Man), The Jersey Isles, The Guernsey Isles, If it's more a question of political correctness than, Islands of the North Atlantic, Anglo-Celtic Isles, Northwest European Archipelago,West European Isles

  • Stephen is an actor, he has written many books, he is a comedian, a director, a quiz master and now I've discovered he flies a plane. IS THERE ANYTHING HE CANT DO?

  • Stephen is so great ..

What a shame that I'm not 50 and gay, I could have some hope .. or at least dream a little.

    Since I'm a 19 years old girl, I'm doomed.

  • He is also "civilised" now I think, however see the autobiography for details of his adventures with teenage girls. Moab is a very good book, probably my favourite autobiography.

  • Craig shares an uncanny resemblance to John Barrowman...

  • Well there's hope for John, I guess :-D.

  • i thought i was the only one who thought that

  • I love John Barrowmman. Is he known in America?

I love Stephen Fry. He is wonderful person.

  • i don't think so

  • nobody knows who he is in America unless you're a huge sci-fi fanatic really

  • Which is a mighty shame, because I love him to death. I wish QI and 'Stephen Fry in America' were available in US format, I love those programs.

  • @Transformergirl Stephen Fry in America comes on PBS really late at night sometimes

  • @Transformergirl instead of wishing it were in US fomat. why not move over to the UK?

  • @lamestguyintown I've actually thought about it. lol

  • @Transformergirl i dunno abt u but thats what im gonna do at least.

  • @r2d23678

    Oh America...

    So ignorant.

  • @millard27 We know. We are ashamed.

  • @BroadwayGrl8989 I learned of him through A Bit of Fry and Laurie. An AWESOME show!

  • John Barrowman is known in America mostly to sco-fi fans -- and theater geeks.

  • John Barrowman is actually Scottish--moved to the States when he was about 9. When he's in Scotland, his accent really kicks back in.

  • @ingahauks We get Torchwood reruns here so yes we do. Although I don't know if he is really well known.

  • god, imagine getting into a cab and realising it's stephen fry at the wheel! i'd love to see the people's faces.

'I've been to bed with him twice' lol, whoooo!

  • i have arrived late, are you saying you have been to bed with him Sally C? Bet that would confuse him in the morning :-P

  • Oh i would get into his cab and never come out again

well maybe for some toilet time

  • Stephen fry... searching for a word to describe him... oh yeah LEGEND!!!!

  • Couldn't you just listen to him talk--spinning out all those gems from remarkable synapses. He is consistently interested and interesting about the widest range things--for two days or two weeks or two year? He is a gem, a jewel, a gift, and a wonder!

  • Craig Ferguson has pet Wolverine-Assholes?!?

  • The idea of getting into a cab with Stephen Fry at the wheel is enthralling. Oh the conversations.

    He is my Idol.

  • Maybe its only that Craig has only written one novel and Stephen has...what...six? and the poetry and the transcripts compiled for 'paperweight'. Fry is our greatest renaissance man. I thought it a rather sweet interview, just too fluffy. Thanks to whomever was resposible for bringing it here.

Can i have the two of them for an hour discussing their novels, experiences??? PBS you listening?

  • Can't imagine anyone doing subtitles for this show, the way and speed at which Stephen and Craig talks!

  • Very poor of Ferguson to say with a fake frown "you're a huge star in the UK!"; fair enough were an American presenter to say that, but Fergie knows he's talking to a god he knows only too well. He should at least have said in recognition e.g. "I can assure you (i.e. his US audience) that this man is a star!" ...

  • mm im not sure about that, he mentioned it completely in the context of the discussion about fry driving a taxi if u listen more closely. not that im a huge fan of ferguson

  • Oh, my hero!

Stephen that is in case you didn't get that Im sure you did.

  • thank you very much for posting this interview!

    PEACE

  • I love his idea too

  • very smart interesting man..:) funny anorl

  • He's got to be the most irritating bloke ever to host a chat show. He's got to bet he only talk show host to ask the question then answer it himself...! He constantly butts in, which is very annoying, especially when you've got quick witted humorous guest on the show like Billy Connelly & Stephen Fry. Craig Ferguson, your not remotely one bit funny. Shut your yap and do your job you arrogant prick!

  • lmao why did everyone agrue about wether you get english/british humour who cares? if you get it you get it if you don't you don' does it matter? a doubt anyone who doesn't get british/english humour would have searched and watched a video with a english comedien (spelling?) in it. And so you don't get confused i am english and i prefer to be called english than british most people do here that i have met perefer to call them selves by there indiviual country of orgin rather than british.

  • I love Stephen in Converses. I love converses. He wins for wearing them, I say.

  • I noticed that, Stephen in Converse B boots bless him.

  • This interview would be better if Ferguson would shut his fucking mouth.

  • How true those words.

  • luv his cab idea!

  • The thing that surprised me was his shoes.I shure wouldn't have guessed THAT!

  • oh! it's the bloke off the drew carey show!

and stop saying stephens put on weight - he doesn't care at all, and neither should he

  • Funny, I also always forget Ewan McGregors name.

  • the black cab thing, genius idea! I love stephen fry!

  • Craig ferguson has such an odd twang....

  • have you noticed steve has converses on? cool.

  • Graig Ferguson is a complete tit!

  • Ian McEwan is a novelist it hasnt got him either! HAHAHA

  • this was great thank you!

  • I'm a huge Stephen Fry fan so thanks for putting this up!

  • Thanks for putting this up... I've also been looking for it since I heard he was coming on the show.. :)

  • Ach, he isn't on top form in these clips... and his isn't a book *of* poetry, but a book *about* poetry.
