  • Good point.

  • @MsKittenz1 Thanks.

  • @Mashayach Indeed. It's ironic, because when you look at it, the youth cultures around the world that take to Hip-Hop are often cultures that need that outlet just as much as the originators of rap. In Delhi there is just as much prejudice and oppression, and aggression against one another that I see Hip-Hop serving the same purpose, even though those folks do not have the benefit of actual lyrics that provoke them to think critically. Still, the feeling is there as is the need.

  • Beats by Wallace Green

Whats up to HIP HOP Heads all over the Globe

  • don't pick on an innocent,impressionable kid.

  • @jattpunjabi52 Luckily I was able to share some Hip-Hop with thee kids that has lyrics of which their own mothers could be proud!

  • MR KUKU,bob marley died before a lot of us were born. These kids watch TV & see videos of Akon & not Marley. You asking him to dance was creepy.

If marley's music was made available to them ,they could even like it.

But what really pisses me off,is you asking him to sing after having heard him once. You are then clearly aware of his lack of singing or english-speaking abilities. You then excitedly ask him to sing and dance for you, knowing fully well that the kid's gonna make a fool of himself.

  • pathetic.those aren't english speaking kids. They're being friendly.& what are you doingg staring at kids playing cricket.in the states a police officer would have questioned you for staring at kids.

  • @jattpunjabi52 Yes, I know that America is so creepy that we are disconnected from one another in other ways. It's pretty common in India that young people will approach me and ask me about Black music....you can only imagine how things have gotten since Michael jackson died. I cannot walk around in a residential area without some kids wanting to show me their MJ moves. So, has life in America got you THAT much afraid of kids? I do not miss America's sexmania and pedophiliac mania..so juvenile.

  • @diepiriye Pedophilia is rampant in india more than the states.Life in america hasn't made me scared of kids either. That conclusion is very juvenile. You just picked on someone who you knew would make a fool of himself.I'm amused at the way you try & take the high moral ground by referring to your session with kids soon after where you educated them on true black music. You should have stopped the kid straight away when he started & corrected him then.Instead, you ask him to dance.Pathetic.

  • @jattpunjabi52 Ah ha! Now I see where we disagree. I was actually quite flattered that these kids love Hip-Hop, so I see nothing foolish about it. The adults around us all who perpetuate the thug/whore rap music are problematic, and I choose to be a part of the solution. Rather than compare oppressions, I see something more basic to us all that can shine. I am a dancer and always enjoy dancing, which many kids on Delhi streets get to see, b/c I do not have to be drunk at a wedding to dance.

  • @diepiriye :You see nothing foolish? Was someone tickling you then?

    The false modesty doesn't work.

The 'soln' didn't live in his dancing skills, did it?

Or his singing skills for that matter.

BTW,your medication must make you wasted enough to dance on streets.

Have you had the reqd dose for the day?

  • @jattpunjabi52 While I can understand that you may harbor a great deal of anger, might I suggest that you tone down the language so that we can actually exchange ideas. Your anger and constant insults and harsh language distract from any important points that you want to make. Your insults take away from the importance of what you want to say, and gets buried beneath your sarcasm and defensive tone. In other words, do you want for us to move towards understanding each other or not?

  • @diepiriye :Very convenient.So I have an inferiority complex,anger issues,get defensive & lack understanding.Says who?Say you.

You on the other hand are holier than Buddha,Nanak & Mandela put together.

My 'insults'(ur calling them insults?) shouldn't take awayfrom the importance of what I'm saying.

You come across as very touchy, childish & significantly creepy.

Your videos and speak about your idea of everything but yourself.

You aren't really reflecting on yourself diepiriye.

  • @jattpunjabi52 BTW, you seem personally offended. Have we met? Have I somehow offended you personally? The anger that you express could not reflect the few exchanges between you and I here, so I am just wondering what has provoked your very harsh words directed personally at me? You continually use insult and sarcasm, & that does indeed distract & detract from your message because frankly it is unnecessary and even discourages honesty & sincerity in our dialogue. It becomes an argument. You win.

  • @diepiriye :Your just blindly defending yourself.I repeat-.You should have stopped the kid straight away when he started & corrected him then.Instead, you ask him to dance.Pathetic & might I add voyeuristic.

He didn't want to rap either after he was done with his first embarassing attempt. You badger him constantly. The sikh boy then says to his 'rapper' friend"Who is going to watch you .No one will know.".If that kid knew you would put this on youtube, there was no way he'd have done this.

  • @jattpunjabi52 Like I said, I am deeply sorry that you view this situation in such heinous light. I wonder if you have felt humiliated in public by some stranger? Well, the situation that you describe is valid, and would be unfortunate. However what you describe has little to do with my exchange reflected here in a park near my house. I had an interesting and meaningful conversation with a group of young strangers. We all treated one another respectfully. Then there's my commentary afterwards.

  • @diepiriye ::I've made it clear to you that this kid didn't know he was going to be on the internet. If he did he ouldn't have 'performed' for you.BTW you linking my 'anger' to past ' public humiliation' is amusing.

    Secondly,we haven't met?

Thirdly, trusting you seems like the wrong option. The way you converse, makes me not want to believe your habshi claim. You would have prolly captured that on film.

  • @diepiriye :So I have a problem with you picking on a lil kid & hence I have an inferiority complex.

Perhaps a mirror would be useful, diepiriye.

  • @jattpunjabi52 I'm deeply sorry that you feel as if I were picking on these kids. I agree that it would be disingenuous for an adult to taunt a child in any circumstance. I didn't even taunt the kids who called me "Habshi" as other adults watched in silence. As for this group, we had a pretty meaningful exchange & I hoped that this would have been reflected here, in addition to my thoughts on the global spread of this commercial rap music. BTW, I don't need drugs or alcohol to dance anywhere!

  • @diepiriye ::I'm sorry that you were called "habshi".It's quite embarassing that adults watched in silence.Inform the nearest cop next time this happens.More often then not ,you will get the required help.

I've never been racially abused,so I can't imagine how it feels. But I know indians are regularly called "camel-jockey" in America. They take it quite well too.

  • @jattpunjabi52 For example, given the level of insult and abusive words that you use, how would I seriously take it when you say that you're sorry that I was called a habshi. You align yourself with the folks in America who call Indians crude racist names? I assume that this is not your intention, but you actually seem to justify hearing habshi in India!

And WTF about Indians taking 'camel jockey' well? That's quite insensitive and presumptuous of you to say. Actually, that's vulgar.

  • @diepiriye :You come across as touchy & mildly delusional. The first part of your video defines insensitivity. It's a bit much for you to label others insensitive & abusive when they show you a mirror. My "insults" can't take away the from the importance of what I'm saying. That's lame. You just want to brush a stupid mistake under te carpet.

Here's my soln, since you lack the basic logic to come up with any.

    1)Delete the video.

2)If & when you meet this kid, tell him the truth.

    3)If he's OK,vr ok.

  • @diepiriye :Temporary loss of vision?Drop the video is what i'm saying .refer to my previous post.

    BTW I don't HATE you.You really aren't that important.

Frankly I'm not a regular youtube user either ,so quit replying to my posts. It's like talking to a wall, talking to you is.Google-bhains ke aage been bajana.

You can choose to ignore what I've said, but you would then automatically give me the right to shoot you on my cellphone & put you on the internet.

  • @jattpunjabi52 I have hundreds of videos on You Tube featuring me with and speaking my ideas.....that's a heck of a mirror, because just look at how you are using this videos to help me reflect on myself. SO, where are your videos? Do you have any? I find that, just like you said, everyone needs a mirror, and making videos really places one front and center! So, go ahead and make at least one single video, and see what it feels like when people speak to you the way that you speak to me. Try it.

  • and thats what europeans can teach you son ..

you fuckers cunts ignore each other in the bed

fucker.. go back to usa ,, break your own fucking ICE IN YOUR DEPRESSING COUNTRY ..

  • @moghuls Wow. That's all You.

  • As for the not talking to you, I find in foreign countries you have to make the first move at times but you must feel like doing iot and not be forced. I think a lot of the time it iis just curiousity. Don't forget even though you grew up in USA your a Nigerian.....we don't care. Whatever stereotypes people have of balck people that is that their problem. I just feel sorry for people who have that mindset. Also you must know a lot of Indians have not been exposed or travelled widely.

  • That indian accent and akon song was funny as hell. He sounded like shit head.. Indian accent is the funniest!

  • @MrFreewill2012

So, you;re the same guy that says that ALL the Black people YOU know have some chip on their shoulders. And yet, here you go insulting a group of KIDS b/c of the way that they talk. I have faced your attitude my whole life, so that might give someone like YOU the impression that we all have a chip on our shoulders. Maybe it YOU! Maybe we are all responding to YOUR energy. When I sit with other Black people and discuss these issues, we're relaxed and happy- no chips- we laugh!

  • @diepiriye Wow! You come to india and then make questionable videos and blame an entire culture by generalizing, now you will give ME advice on what is racism? That is 'contradictory' to what you do, pal. At least, i have the courage to accept that indian accent is funny even after me being an indian. That cuz indians don't feel insecure about who they are.Can you say something hilarious about your race? You cant, Its because your mind is narrow and you cant think anything past 'perceived racism.'

  • True, i agree that akon and the new age rappers are all selling sexual content and black gangsta kind of stuff. It has somehow created a stereotype about all black people! Not all black people are rappers! There are doctors, engineers etc etc! Those kids were being racist but unfortunately they are completely oblivious to it! welcome to india!

  • SUch a FUCK !

  • Hi, i have been watching your few videos you shot in N Delhi. I really can not figure out what your intention was while shooting these vids and what message you want to spread on youtube, for good Lord's sake dont tell its about racism in India or you ever faced racism in India. I really think you seriously need a job and a head. There is a life beyond shooting crap vids.

  • @Alcohilica

    SILENCE = DEATH.

That's always been true. If YOU do not understand what the videos are about, or if you disagree with the perspective, isn't that OK? Isn't it ok if we have different perspectives? You certainly have to assume that I am representing reality from my perspective, as I assume you are telling the truth, too. I have only told about MY experience and only told the truth. I am happy to hear that you do not face these issues, but am unsurprised that you're unaware.

  • @diepiriye u know what dude, Its not about that u have different perspective than mine but its about that u have entirely wrong perspective. These guys r staring u coz of ur attire which seem odd to them and you are pointing your mobile on then to shoot this shit, so this is all their curiosity not racism. I think i would receive a punch in US or UK if i do so, so consider urself lucky. trust me if u were an Indian then u would have captured the true racism which is nothing but Castism there.

  • @Alcohilica

WH]here are your videos discussing these things. It sounds as tough you have a lot of experiences of your own that have lead you to say this. Perhaps it would be useful if you shared those experiences. I find that creating these videos also helps my thinking move along further. Certainly, it is risky and people will not only disagree, but also insult you, so you have to develop a sympathy to understand their perspective, too. Your ideas might even grow, and that's scary isn't it?

  • @diepiriye And count on me, if you really wanna show Racism through ur vids then shoot in Denmark, UK or US. U chose a wrong place mate for a very serious matter.

  • @Alcohilica

I guess that is the difference between you and me. I believe that we can talk critically about all of these places, and that we are sophisticated enough to have such complex conversations. it is not an either/or situation, at least from my perspective, although I respect that you see that speaking about racism in India negates racism in other places. In fact, I believe that the Indian experience can teach the world a lot, so we must share what goes on here, in loving critique.

  • do you spot the happiness & interest in those kids 2 speak 2 u?they are actually showing that they have just began learning your ways.u cant expect those kids to listen to doobie brothers-long train running.i mean come on man they jus picked up whats hot on the web in music.they jus listen to top 3 songs on the chart busters.u cant blame them 4 not looking whose on the 4th place with some really sensitive song.camo man give them a break.talk to some 1 with ur own level of intelligence.

  • @thunderdudesurya Thanks for the reminder. I sat with the kids for much longer than is reflected here and we had a great exchange. And don't be so damn stupid. I am a Hip-Hop head, so of course I shared some more authentic & socially relevant music with them. Who do you know that talks to kids, but doesn't share any wisdom with them? Come on, are you so blinded by 'difference' that you feel like you have to defend anything Indian? Is your pride so thin that these films hurt your eyes? Your age?

  • dude u fooled me mann hahahah i likeed ur video title

HIP HOP LIVE FROM DELHI AND STUFF

i thought indian young kids showing off their talents and stuff but u fooled us mann lolz

  • Yup, I tend to require folks to think for themselves.

  • at the 1.35 mark, the punjabi boy wearing the black turban in his effort to convince his friend to sing was like "anyway, it's not like anyone in his country even knows you"...lol..looks like they haven't discovered youtube yet.

  • I think by now they know that the world is quite small.

  • i hate this gay black sounding guy

  • I don't hate you back. I will pray that your hate does not eat you up from inside as all hate tends to do. I will also pray that you do not feel "hate" just from watching a video, and that when faced with difference face to face, I pray that you do not panic, do not have an anxiety attack, and are able to manage to be more civil than you have been here.

Also, please do not be concerned about my feelings: I have faced people like you my whole life and have learned what its all about.

  • @reddysrinivas1

if you hate him, why did you even bother watching a 9 minute video of his? How about you just get a life. Ever met this guy? well i have...he was a substitute teacher at my school..and he was pretty awesome, i had him substitute for a couple of teachers. Seriously...

  • @shrivatsasomany

    Wow.

Thanks for that. I appreciate your comments and thanks also for the kind compliment. I miss the energy of the students at your school and wish you al the best.

  • @reddysrinivas1

btw. ur a retarded piece of horse shit. just saying. dont comment shit on my personal profile, stop being a pussy and post it here if u have something to say.

  • (continued) are quite above everyone...they are all important. thats the reason why they stare, well also the fact that they have probably not seen another person of another race in their life. but really, its not because you are black, its because of their general perception of foreigners.

  • Often people mean "white" when they say "foreigner" and otherwise people call me "Negro" or "Black man," like a group of kids did today as I was walking down the street. BTW, I get that on a regularly basis, sometimes friendly, sometimes not, but never neutral.

  • @diepiriye

I agree there, foreigner = white....however, calling you a negro is not that bad in their books. As a person who is privileged enough to get a chance to absorb other cultures..its quite obvious to me now that they really dont think its bad calling someone that. Negro in itself is not that bad...but "african American" is WAY out of their league. As for the hostility, well thats personal i guess. they do make fun of white people silently as well..

  • Indeed, I hear what you're saying. It's never the terminology that offends me, but the fear. I have had people literally JUMP out of their skin when seeing me. And I have had just as many kids want to shake my hand, show me their rap songs or B-Boy dance- and THAT is racially specific, and not even in a negative way (although one does get tired of being a stereotype).

  • @diepiriye

yeah, the reddysrinivas guy sent me the most retarded message on youtube as well...i guess theres never enough dumbasses in the world.

  • yo, this is pretty funny haha.

but honestly, ive lived in delhi my whole life, went to AES for high school, went to switzerland to a boarding school between 6th and 7th grade. All this is significant because from a young age i was comfortable with different races, may they be european, russian, black, white, anything.

From then on ive also seen the social distribution in delhi. What you say about delhi is true, but they stare at you because the average delhi citizen thinks foreigners (TBC)

  • It's really interesting what you say. The thing that bugs me about AES is that it is actually typically American! Folks think that having an international food day is promoting multi-culturalism. Sheer numbers are a start, but there is little in the classroom to promote dialogue across difference. The way I left AES strengthen my conviction to create curriculum to promote dialogue and respect among young people because clearly we adults are two-thousand and late!

  • why is he using saying "what the fuck" at one instance, and then says "the f word" the second time. wut the fuck? u already so the word fuck on ur boadcast.

  • Why is that the only thing that YOU got from this video? Or, let me ask you: What do YOU think about commercial Hip-Hop? How have YOU seen the spread of this trend affect young people where YOU are? Come one, please do not get lost in the details- don't forget the vastness of the forest for seeing the wonders of the trees.

  • because i am a citizen critic. i dont like seeing dumb mistakes... and wen i do, i correct it, i wud welcome u to correct me.. but clearly u dont like being corrected.. "so what the fuck"

  • Ok, Thanks.

  • Art will be Art!!

  • @onelovespeak Art will be. And that's got to be one of the most redeeming characteristics of humanity.

  • those Indians obviously belong to the low caste and they are not taught manners.. just ignore them..

    the highclass Indians have manners..

  • You left a comment on another one of my videos claiming that: "Its pathetic that you blacks play the race 24/7.. you guys need to be educated !" Your comments here show EXACTLY why it is imperative that people like me continue to expose why gender, race & class discrimination are STILL huge problems in the modern day. Racism works, interestingly, in exactly the same way that you are using caste here. Racism teaches people that only people of a "highclass" have manners have any value to society.

  • 245. They looked OK to me. Quite polite and friendly. Some high caste Indians can be arrogant.

  • Arrogant? In this city? You must be kidding (smile).

  • lol...in fact in delhi, it IS (mostly) the high class ones that are.

  • LOL. these kids seem to be from a lower-class family(no offence). It seems so, by their English. I'm myself a student, im 13 yrs old and I can assure you that 13yr olds have a good standard of English.

  • Well, if you've watched any of my other videos, you'd come to understand that the point here is not their social class, but the way commercial Hip-Hop is influencing youth. There are so many great rap acts out there that have positive and thought provoking messages. Ever heard of BDP, KRS 1, or Public Enemy? Try and see the film Dave Chappelle's Block Party! It's awesome.

Rap is radical music. Do you ever see India growing to a position where there is less hunger and disease on the streets?

  • Yeah, I do accept the fact that Famous rappers like Akon are influencing the youth with Music which is supposed to be so-called "Parental Guidance required" content. but Unfortunately, children do not realize that and listen to such music. This is mostly present in Big cities like New Delhi.

Now sir, see the point. India is the most diverse country in the world. Here you will find literally everything. Just look at Mumbai,

  • [CONTINUED]You will find Multi-storey Buildings in front of Slums, in India, Anyone can live. No matter who you are, how old you are. Just look at our Railways, The largest Railway system in the WORLD, which comes under a SINGLE Authority, Covering 61,000 kilometres. even, look at the types of classes in Indian Trains: EIGHT types of classes you can board! So, while we're overtaking countries in the list of GDP, there's a bit of poverty too..Already, Slums hv been cleared out in Mumbai!

  • And, India is stated to be a slum--free country withing the next 5 yrs.

you must have seen the movie or atleast heard of Slumdog Millionaire, the child actor and actress are actual Slum-dwellers, and their slums have been removed! Noiw danny boyle set-up a flat for them in Mumbai. He came from London to mumbai just for the flat and to start a new foundation known as the Jai Ho foundation.

I hope u enjoy india while u still can!

  • agian i'm indian too they stair at everyone it does not matter if your black or any thing else. they even stair at me too it weried.

  • Agreed. And the fact is that people here feel very uncomfortable when someone stares at them. People who grow up here have learned to ignore it, but they certainly do not like it any more than I do. I notice this even more when I walk around in public with someone for the first time and they are exposed to the staring that I get; it's unnerving for them as much as me, but they could not have believed it until they experienced it. People really think they understand what gawking means until...

  • the guy in the look -t shirt looks like charlie shein

  • what the fuck, i face this stareing thing everyday.. i am socio phobic and i hate that but i see they r not even aware they r staring.. Its a natural thing, even whn ppl stared at me and said bad things i saw it was their own insecurity about themselves.. they felt i was judging them lowly so thy took the first step and said the bad thing.. come on we r not racesist in that sense,.

  • Indeed, it is their own insecurity and that is the most troubling thing her in India is that there seems to be a lot of social insecurity. People gain a lot of security from their family, but that also means that a lot of fear gets dumped on the public so much so that people are used to crap in public and look at me like Im crazy for even suggesting that there is a better way. There has to be a better way because folks clearly are not happy or satisfied with this level of insecurity.

  • ya,i wear large sun glasses becoz i hv a problem with my eye at times but ppl think i am being a pompous prick and stare at me,sometimes thy even look at me with disgust!i hate my country men,thy r idiots of the 1st grade, that said thr is no greener shores else where, may be materialistically yes,the west is better, but emotionally or mentally humans r miserable animals and thy take tht misery where ever thy r,Its funny how much ever we try to change society tht change adds to a greater chaos!

  • dude a lot black people dont know that indian people are that worrest people in the world i felt bad when i saw that indian dude on oprah show i guess oprah wifferry one day will no that true side of this people you know what am gone make a video about them

  • could u explain how so? Most asians r like indians, we stick with our community and make fun of others.. thats true.. there is a nuance in white racism and indian racism.

  • faggot....

  • Hey mate; did you fuck any of those Asian boys? You are gay, so you must have release the tension while you were there. Can bet you showed them the US dollars and then got there ass and cock.

  • I understand from all the comments left on your channel that you try to get a rise out of people by leaving these comments. I totally doubt your sincerity and wonder if you believe anything you say. It seems that you hate yourself and want to spread hate. You need not. YOU, too, can love yourself, but you gotta start by forgiving yourself for not being able to handle life. One benefit of making these videos is dialogue and dialogue breeds understanding. So try listening for a while, just listen.

  • Just reading your comments again. it's interesting These are children, which is the whole point of the video. If you have fantasies about sexualizing youth then I suggest YOU receive help. It sounds like you have some unresolved issues & you're acting out here in order to force it. Fair enough. But I encourage you to think more about healing. You might need more than what's offered here on YouTube.

  • When in Rome, do as the Romans do. If the kids around the block rock to Smack That and F*** You, you do that unless you want to be treated like crap. Don't go talking to strange people who will never care about you and then expect them to learn. That is not going to happen. Your points are valid, but what does it all boil down to? Why would you even care? Indians give all kinds of reactions to differences, especially homosexuality, why would you wanna bear the brunt?

  • Actually, I am a sociologist, and probably gravitated towards this field because I do care and I do think these things matter. Frankly, someone's got to pay attention.

  • Indians are one of the most racist people in the world. They even discriminate each other.

  • Well, discrimination is everyone, although I will agree that this is a place where racism is well polished.

  • People get away with everything here.

  • Yup, just checking out the news and seeing how poor peoples lives matter less, I would tend to agree with you. On the other hand, Bush stole two elections. (well, I am sure that anyone can agree that he stole the first one and coerced into a second term).

  • yea i as an indian myself have faced that. Im a native of Andhra Pradesh, and just because I have a south indian accent when I speak hindi. It is unfortunate that such racist acts have not only been condoned such that no one even sees it a crime :@

  • Very good analysis Diepiriye. I bonded early on with the words of Bob M, Peter T and others, so I am very aware of this generalized oppressive phenomena in our culture. Yet, though your words are poetic when you write that people there 'see the Blacks the whites bring', I say hold on. When I lived in Egypt, people saw Western women through porn. the point is that though it feeds on the oppressed, it's very much about making $. The core: business men have no problem being proud of what they do.

  • OK! And we are just one of those commodities to be bought and sole, now through the Akons and 50 Cents.

  • hi D, you make a good point. im so glad that someone's bringing up something so important. There is in fact a rapper from london who's trying 2 educate & put out music with depth & informative material in india. He's been at it for 4 years now & many believe it was he who introduced hip hop 2 india. It's a different story that mtv and Vh1 and channel V took 2 more commercial hip hop. His name is Living in Sin.

  • Thanks for sharing and commenting!

  • i dont understand what this video is suppose to be portraying. Yes akon is a commercial rapper thats done concerts far and wide hence is recognized by many- including kids in india. Big whoop.

Hip hop is a culture that, unfortunately, happens to be growing as a trend. Get use to it people.

If you're amazed by this, wait till you get to bombay.

  • I'm disappointed that it's the commercialized Hip-Hop that makes it big here. It's as if people here only get to know the Hip-Hop that white people sell them...they only see the Blacks that whites bring. I have yet to see Hip-Hop in India make any real socially critical statements, whereas this IS the point of Hip-Hop- to be entertained, but to be reflective. Like Akon's lyrics, it's just empty, void of any moral character. That's where I'm coming from.

  • Also have you looked into the Dalits?

  • Thanks for the tips. Indeed, I speak a great deal about social oppression in India.

  • You are welcome. Recently I've seen this video, which really to me is the ultimate in piecing everything together. Will be well worth your while to see: Empire Of The City -Ring Of Power.

  • Have you seen on YOUTUBE: The Big Picture Final 1/9 and Lenon Honor's: What Lies In Plain Sight?

  • Ahhh...yes. Let's spell the virtual death of Indians by quickly adopting the hip-hop culture and music, which has been proven to be so corrosive to America. I wish Indians would get some originality, and if they are going to mimic something from the West, they should mimic real talent, like rock musicians such as the U2 or Cold Play, instead of parroting ignoramus hip-hop artists that cant construct a coherent sentence, can't play an instrument, and whose themes debase women and humanity.

  • I hear your anger, but SEX, DRUGS & ROCK-n-ROLL have been in bed together for ages, so the genre you mentioned is no safer. But you obviously are referring to commercial Hip-Hop, not the genuine, critical thinkers that don;t get the radio play b/c they don't go for the BLING already popular in India. Hip-Hop, for me, is about being socially critical, much more than rock, which was born out of whites literally stealing Black music! Don't give up so easily on this be/c there are those who THINK!

  • Diepiriye, I am aware that there are hip-hop artists who do articulate messages of greater substance, and not all partake in the virtual deification of materialism and misogyny. So what I was referring to was the very commercially accessible hip-hop performers that people from around the world tend to emulate - performers that appeal to the basest in human nature. Granted commercial Rock does suffer from the same ills, but nowhere near to the same degree - U2 and Coldplay being good examples.

  • What's interesting is that I do see some elements of Hip-Hop's counter culture emerging here, both in dance (e.g. Break) and freestyle rap. But sure, most folks get to know Hip-Hop through the boob tube, and it ain't pretty. What's worse is facing those sorts of people in the streets and they expect me to be some sort of representative of that genre. For anyone who will listen, I expose them to some greats!

  • Whatever you like to say just stop it and i know if someone is bad how to deal with him?

  • ok PEACE 4 ALL

  • Peace is a state of mind, but won't be achieved by just wishing it. We gotta work for it. At the very least, that means listening when someone disagrees with us and not having to be RIGHT, at least not before we've really understood someone else's perspective. It's mush easier said than done.

  • than shut the fuck up

  • Peace. Think peace. We all actually can get along if we CHOOSE to.

  • ha ha ha i do know how to speak hindi SALAY KIA HAL HAI TERA?

  • Well, then you are a paki...adeeljano and I figured you hate India...just like I hate Pakistan so you got to talk bullcrap about Indians...first of all they know how to speak English, it's just that they have a accent and I bet if you were living in Pakistan, you would talk like them too so I don't see a reason you are telling them to learn English.

  • its true indians stare at all tourists in thei country becasue its their country and youre probably an outsider to them .... so they hav a right

  • I've spoken with actual tourists, as well as other non South Asians who live here (like me, it's almost insulting that people regard us as tourists, but that's no matter). All agree that this place places so much on appearance, which can be faked. People judge by what you look like & treat you accordingly. This is why you can have young guys walk around like they own the place & shit on everyone else around. It's much deeper than just curiosity my friend. It's power here, & probably everywhere.

  • Well diepiriye, there is no less racism in USA, matter in fact there is even more.

  • Who you tellin'!

  • Not you dude, I'm talking to adeeljano.

And by the way diepiriye I live in Gurgaon, Harayana, did you go there? In DLF city there are 5 shopping malls in every 500 meter stretch. I see lots of black tourists in New Delhi and I don't see people insulting them and even in Jaipur, Rajastan there are awful lot of white tourist and people don't insult them either. (people might stare at you because people don't get to see people like you but they don't give a bad look or anything...)

  • Apparently it's complicated. DOn't take it personally, but I've long since stopped trying to get others to understand what it feels like and how I experience the gawking. Most folks would rather assume that I dress up in drag and go out with a camera hunting for attention. That was an additional lesson. Few other folks understand it unless they directly experience it, so either take it as it is or leave it. As an artists, however, I must respond to this behavior.

  • A Indian guy goes to a shopping mall or any other place with lots of people in America while wearing traditional Indian clothes, wouldn't those people stare at him?! Yes they would and is that racist? Just like that people were staring at you because you are a foreigner so you got to take what you give...

  • My whole point is that none of this is excusable.

  • diepiriye

Anyway...hell with all the crap and this is probably my 2nd last comment for you (I will just reply for your next comment) So i just want to say is that not everybody behaves like that in India and I know that majority of them do, I have seen lot of people out casting the black people in our country and I'm totally against that and millions of people are too so I personally apologize for whatever happened to you in India.

  • No personal apologies, please, though I appreciate the sentiments. Neither you nor I can be held personally responsible for the actions of others, or an entire ideology that in many ways envelopes the earth. You and I, however, are responsible for our little patch of the words and to spread as much peace as we can. In that spirit, I accept your words of kindness. I am critical of what goes on in India, as well as America, because I believe that we're all worth more than behaving like this.

  • yea dude

  • what the fuck is this they r like gays Go and how to speak english.

  • Let people be free to be who they are.

  • Why should they learn how to speak english, are you learning Hindi?

    EXACTLY! FAG

  • dude, you have gone to a country where two thirds of the country is below poverty line. and you are trying to get some attention from them? don't you think thats a little self- important? the kids you were talking to were average middle class kids. Anyway, people there are just busy living their lives and its only a handful that understand popular american culture, so you were lucky there. also, they stand and stare at all tourists not just you.

  • Hmmm, this video is actually more about how cultures confront each other. Often people only see cultural confrontations on TV or through political or economic leaders. I am more interested in everyday experiences- in people's lives, and this is exactly what draws me here and to feel at home ANYWHERE is the world, so I am not a tourists here even though in public I find that many treat me as such as they have no other references for a 'foreigner' in India.

  • Hello Diepirlye,

I was tracking a video that I directed which lead me to New Delhi Hip Hop when I ran across your video. I am very impressed with you logic... not that u need my validation or anyones. I like the voice depth that u bring to the topics that u discussed. Are u familiar with the new social website Living in Black? I only suggest it because I would love your voice heard in that arena... only 3,000 members so far. It's a cool village that I like when I;m not in this one - peace

  • Hey, thanks a lot for the references. Of course I am always on the look out for opps to connect with other like minded sis & bros, so I'll check out this site ASAP.

  • ay bomb video bra...i couldnt agree more, what should be apreciated in music isnt ne more, and its sad that such a powerful tool like music isnt being used for the better of humanity, and it is sickening that such degrading music is becoming so acceptable as well as demanded...i jus came across this vid cuase ill be spending 2 years in delhi soon..oh yea n BIG fan of Marley n Dead Prez..BigUps!

  • Good luck!

  • u got good points, its sad american imperiliasm is exploiting afro american n minority culutures n poping a few up n keeping the majority down

  • Yes, I like what you said and in far fewer words and more concise than what I've said here. Thanks a lot for sharing.

  • The accent isn't it funny how when we talk to foreigners we talk in an ACCENT haha!! But your vids are VERY INTERESTING man!!

  • OMIGOSH! Are you saying that this Kentucky boy talks funny now?

  • no its cool!! im saying we as americans when we speak to foreigners we tend to speak in a accent that try to match theirs haha i just find it funny shit i do it too!! haha i think we all do

  • Ha Ha! I was just thinking abut that Fri night at the club. I usually prefer dancing alone b/c I always try to match the person I'm dancing with. But this usually slows me down until that one person comes along and knows how to work it real hard. This is something I miss about America, in the way that I don't totally connect with popular music here the way that these queens on the dance floor light it up!

  • Yes I can only imagine how they must be doing it over there must be definitely a culture shock!! O my that must be cool! The social sciences are beyond cool man! Only if the everday person can see that!!

  • Aw, thanks....actually, wen I go back to KY folks tell me that I speak differently, though I hadn't noticed. Hmmm, as I watch this video again, I really miss Public Enemy, Tribe Called Quest and a host of others who have so much more to say than this.

  • Yes I know so unfortunate but hey...Execs change with the time!

  • the new colonized mind is the corporate shine, reflection blinding us from truth. i fear for the future. the world will become like those indian boys. the corporate pangea can count on their money and their mind. the rest of the world will be made into a factory like india. all of us looking on, like them to your truth, waiting for someone to turn on the machine and tune us in, never making the first move. until a cricket bat SMACKS THAT! and then we either fight or engage, learn and change.

  • I THINK YOU HAVE A SHORT PLAY/ONE AN SHOW outlined here in these conversations on a park bench halfway around the world. am i the only one who sees the poetry in these interactions? the boy has a shirt that says "LOOK". look at me, look at the world, look at india, look at yourself. a black man in india contemplating generica with much thought and brilliance... YOU GOT A PLAY HERE!

  • Hmmmm, I appreciate the encouragement. I was thinking more about film since that's more readily accessible. Your films inspire me to think in this direction more b/c your production is brilliant. Are you a pro? What do you use for editing?

  • i'm not a pro. just a guy who's spent yrs watching tv and movies. visual language is in me. a friend said MACs are the best computers for making videos so i bought one last fall and use the garage music and imovie programs to record, edit, finish and publish straight to youtube. get a MAC if you don't have one. all the programs are there... i'd love to get your comments on my "OIL --black and liquid in modernity" series. take your time but get back with me about the content... namaste.

  • OK< so we use the same program!

  • PREACH Brother, PREACH!

  • Man, ain't nothing wrong with Akon! Who doesn't like sex? Plus if "Smack That" draws them in, they also get to hear beautiful heartfelt tunes like "Mama Africa" if they cop the album.

Nobody is one thing, and no matter what "revolutionary" you choose, when you find out the details of their personal lives, they ALL got their freak on (word to MLK).

  • Come on, you cannot say that you don;t now folks who really buy into THAT dream of relating to women as objects, and buying everything else on top of that. What kid of life are these rappers promoting? Youth buy this crap, and that's the problem. Besides, Black people have much more to say than just what gets radio play.

  • When you're young, you buy into all types of dumb shit. When you mature, you hopefully grow out of it, if not, you become a joke to your other peers who have moved on with their lives. That's life. I agree radio/TV could provide a better balance, but I wouldn't knock Akon or any artist for talking about what's relevant to them.

It's not an artist's responsibility to save the world.

  • OK, I agree. But only CERTAIN sorts of records get made, and even a more select group gets promoted. Then from all of that, imagine what makes it around the globe. Nokia brought a group of thugs to jump around on stage. These were the first real live Black men that many were seeing. Think about that.

  • I hear you, but I decided a while ago that I was not gonna carry the cross for the whole race. Meaning when I interact with other "races", whatever their pre-conceptions of how Black people are, I carry myself in a manner that will command respect from anyone. Period.

I can't worry about what other people think.. it drains you of all your energy, and life is too short for that. Anyways, good luck in your travels, I'm gonna go listen to some Akon now..

  • Of curse that's true! Any my mother reminds me often to not bear that cross. But alas, I am a writer and despite my best attempts, I see these things everywhere I go and just cannot stop myself from, well, writing or making videos, or.....see, made you think!

  • Check out Erykah Badu's new song, "The Healer". Hip Hip (or just music in my opinion) knows no borders.

  • Thanks. Will do. Any more notes for these folks? I work with young people, too, and they love all the R-O-N-G Hip-Hop.

  • Diepiriye,

This video made me think Kweli's line: "silence is golden, but the violence is platinum."--The Perfect Beat.

  • Diepiriye,

This video made me think Kweli's line: "silence is golden, but the violence is platinum."--The Perfect Beat.

  • OK! Thanks for letting me know. I am around a lot of young people and want to share better beats with them, so thanks for this reference!

  • Glad to. "Eardrum" is a great album and definitely worth owning if you can get it in India. And sorry for the double post; the double post is an ugly thing.

  • Luckily my cousins are all Hip-Hop heads, so they hook me up- and they all have different tastes. Eardrum is dope, and since he taught Kanye, and still blows him out of the water, why is it....ok we all know what sells

  • this was deep. do you think it's easier for people to lose themselves in the fantasy/stereotypes than to do deal with reaity? like maybe some people pull up to the mcdonalds drivethru to numb their pain with food and other people pull up to the mass media drivethru to do the same thing?

and are they aware that they are doing it?

  • The commercial fantasies are well packaged and ubiquitous! You can see this crap everywhere, and Dave Chapelle's Block Party and the types of artists he continually highlights, for example, are not BLING, and you know that BLING is well marketed through a much larger 'machine' from fashion to co-branding, etc. Then, there's the violence in the commercial stuff, and violence is a part f that machine and looks very seductive especially to youth looking for something new.

  • very interesting..

  • OMG wow this is amazing

it shows how far hip hop

    has gone it really does

    cross lines indeed

    just wondering

    can you speak any

    of the language that

    the people of new delhi

    speak.
