  • Hannan, the poster boy of European Teabagging. btw the Tea Party is working very well in the U.S. with their obstructionanist and extremist agenda:)

  • These idiots have no ideal how a health care system in the developed world works. What a joke.

  • Stossel always liked the stash. Thumps up to you.

  • 2:31 Mr Stosses, I really like you,

...but, GODDAMN, it's the Prime Minister of the UK, not England!

Is Obama the President of Texas?!

  • What is wrong with being a serf?

  • WHAT IS SERFDOM?!?!?!?

  • @iluvpoliticzz slavery

  • @fzqlcs so its slavery of the people to the government? the government is getting bigger and bigger, therefore the people become slaves?

  • @iluvpoliticzz Yes, it is when government no longer works you as designed. Instead, you, in effect, work for the government.

  • @iluvpoliticzz

    Check out irsdotgov

  • Read The Law by Bastiat (free download on the 'net.) then watch The Agenda (Amazon). It is the youth of this nation that will inherit the bills this administration is running up at warp speed. RESTORE AMERICA 2012 RON PAUL

  • To the Americans: Daniel Hannan is the biggest hypocrite in the European Parliament.

  • I would wish Obamanocchio on Britain only if she could but wrestle the lying subhuman statist to the ground in the shame that he deserves.

That individuals like Hannan reveal that the would-be statist emperor filth GTFObama lusts to be autocratic tyrant is a blessing to all United States citizens who yearn to breathe free.

Barry, throw in the towel. You ARE failure. After 2010 not a living soul without oxygen-starved brain cells are under any delusion as to what poison ideology you love.

  • Hey England, we will trade Obama for Hannan straight up!!! Deal?

  • The objective of the Statist, always, is to make as many persons as possible, as dependent as possible, on a government as big as possible.

-- Robert W. Lee, Tracking the Budget Beast, 1996

If slavery is not wrong, then NOTHING is wrong.

    -- Abraham Lincoln

  • either way..let the system fail, so we can construct one WITHOUT THE BANKERS in charge!!!

  • the money to pay poor is NOT TAKEN FROM RICH, its created out of thin air...backed with from promise of future ppl to pay 4 it through taxes, like all entitlements!!!! the rich have tax loopholes, middle and lower classes dont have...

  • I'll say it again, when people argue that Hannan is wrong they rely on stupid insults, inaccuracies, and vagueness. The EU is in a death spiral and we are talking weeks, not years or months. Thanking you.

  • Is a government ran military also considered central planning?

  • WE GOT SLAVERY IN THE PRISON SYSTEMS AND SERFDOM IN THE STREETS. WE NEED REDRESS AND ANOTHER DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE. THESE JEFFERSON DAVIS ASSOCIATES HAVE ENSLAVED US. TIME TO REDRESS THIS TYRANNICAL GOVERNMENT AND DESPOTIC SOCIETY.

  • Whaaaaaaaat??? He's saying Hayek has WON the debate against Keynes, Krugman, Stiglitz, Baker? He's gotta be smoking something good. The reason middle class folks can't afford the weight of the gov't is because the wealthier ones keep getting better and better at capturing ALL the excess GDP while paying out NONE of it. And yet, the tea party still defends these people. I would prefer a progressive tax system, but I'd settle for a flat tax in a heartbeat.

  • THIS IS WHY I CALLED YOU ALL WHITE BOYS CAUSE OUR EXCESSIVE TAXATION BY THE GOVERNMENT HAS BURDEN US WITH MORE MONEY THAN WE MAKE A YEAR. WAIT WELL THE RICH ARE NOT TAXED IN THIS DEMOCRACY SO I GUESS THAT MAKES THEM OWNER OF US IN THIS SERFDOM SOCIETY?

  • Hannan speaks well but he remains a member of the EU-loving Conservative party. If he is serious about the UK leaving the EU, he should leave the Conservatives and join the UK Independence Party, which is the only party that wants to get out of the EU. Until he does that, I will take everything he says with a pinch of salt.

  • Hannan is excellent, but not quite a Nationalist. Currently A little too laissez faire/free market on Trade and Tariff/'Import Tax' issues. Not much focused on restoring Britain's manufacturing base.

And we need to hear more from him on Pro-Family issues.

  • LIBERTARIANMONARCHY . COM

  • I never thought I'd hear a British politician actually making sense.

  • I saw some chick from a progressive group on tv saying "There are riots in london because there isnt enough govt help for the poor. So when there is no help out of work people have no other choice". Now this chick was talking about England which is a euro socialist state. So according to leftist its not socialist enough. That reminds me of Paul Krugman saying we needed "bigger Stimulus" when the first stimulus didnt work.

  • @shaqdaddy11 Actually it's the exact opposite. The riots in london are BECAUSE of the govt auxiliary programmes. She should ask herself (I know she won't, those people are usually clueless): who's rioting? Mostly pakis, blacks, chavs = lazy sods who don't work and suck off money from the govt. And the muslims even want to bring in the sharia law! Well they did in some parts afaik...

  • @plmnw iv talked with many brits who are absolutly sick of the unproductive sucking the life out of the productive citizens. But they cant do much because so many of the population is dependant on the govt.

  • @plmnw We had a welfare system in the 1950s, 60s and 70s and yet no riots.

The reason the riots in London took place is the lack of proper policing and proper punishments for wrongdoers. If they knew a good flogging awaited them, they might not riot in the first place.

  • You smell that? That's the smell of a prime minister who just got BURNED

  • It's easier to sell positive rights to the people than negative rights. That's why free market does not spread, even though we saw what happend in Sovjet.

  • Hannan reminded me of something Reagan said. I am going to put it a little different.

Next time you are debating a liberal about living off the gov't, ask them what the difference is between living off welfare and living in prison.

Liberal: "THAT IS DISGUSTING THAT YOU COMPARE THE TWO!!!"

Me: "Oh, so a person on welfare can take a Caribbean cruise?"

    Liberal: "No, but..."

Me: "Can that welfare recipient live in a seaside Vila?"

Liberal: "Now your just being silly. Good Bye."

  • Stossel should had Nigel Farage on the show. Look him up, he's freakin' great!

  • RESTRICT VOTING RIGHTS TO TAXPAYERS

    RESTRICT VOTING RIGHTS TO TAXPAYERS

Non-taxpaying citizens are the source for most of all socialist policies.

    RESTRICT VOTING RIGHTS TO TAXPAYERS!

  • @EriPages

Unfortunately, that would include government jobs as well.

  • @EriPages "Non-taxpaying citizens are the source for most of all socialist policies."

So when someone looses their job... they also loose their right to vote!? Your idea is naive ~exactly~ the way socialist ideas are naive. In other words, your idea is socialist. Poll taxes were ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

If, employment = pays taxes = citizenship.

    Then, unemployment = pays no taxes = a) A Serf. b) An Indentured Servant. c) A Slave.

    Socialism--->Compulsion--->Atrocity.

  • @DOHC2L I haven't read your convo, so i might be off base. But I always thought the voter as a privilage, not a right, and thus should require at least a 1 term Community college class that would cover policy, foreign and domestic, monetary, and all the other non-pro life pro-choice, so the population can be educated somewhat. Maybe take the online class at acedemic earth on philosphy which covers political theory. At least with one term of classes on the subject, people might vote better.

  • @bluefootedpig "But I always thought the voter as a privilege, not a right"

Your rights do not come from government. Your rights come from God. The essential truth is that your rights are inalienable. It's because you have life, you can't stop your breathing to end your life. The breath of life cannot be denied by us, the same is true of our rights.

"At least with... people might vote better."

You have no right to dictate what other people believe, nor does the government have that right!

  • @DOHC2L True, from a true libertarian viewpoint, which it appears you and I share that viewpoint, I would agree. But that only really works in a society where the majority is libertarian. When you have 50%+ of the population, saying we want free money, the government must steal it from somewhere, and give it to them, which to my understanding, you would not like. But yet you allowed them to legally vote for that. So do you prevent corruption? or allow it?

  • @bluefootedpig "So do you prevent corruption? or allow it?"

It's possible to prevent corruption? It's possible to allow it? No and no.

  • @DOHC2L Sure you can allow it, corruption is very allowable. We allow it now through bribes of elected officials. Can you prevent it? maybe not 100 percent. But lets say we have a law that states, "any elected official that takes money contributions from a person is committing treason". Punishment for treason, being life in prison. So yes there still would be, but at least you would have justice, rather than what we have now, which is retirement.

  • @bluefootedpig "Sure you can allow it, corruption is very allowable."

No, if it was allowed, it wouldn't be corruption. There are laws against actions considered corrupt, and those laws act as a deterrent to those illegal acts. Therefore it's wrong to say those acts are "allowed" as they are illegal. Crime isn't "allowed" but crime exists regardless of it's illegality... Your argument is analogous to that situation. Corruption is neither "allowed" nor "preventable" - it's already illegal!

  • @DOHC2L Well, we know that making something illegal doesn't stop it. As you pointed out, it still happens. We can also see similar things with the war on drugs. The thing is, we know about corruption, we know that not only does it exist, we have investigative reporting that highlights the corruption, yet no one gets prosecuted. It is like jay-walking or riding a bike without a helmet. While illegal, a cop will not stop you. An non enforced law deters no one, and thus is acceptable but illegal.

  • It's not just the government. I'm no expert, but I wish the public would please educate themselves at least to the point where they can think about the implications and significance behind what the politicians are saying not just WHAT they're saying.

  • wow!!!!!! a sane politician!!!!!!!

  • Its our fault. The public wants the government fix everything. We don't want to take responsibility for ouselves and there are too many of us. The constitution was not precise and clear enough in its wording - it is vague enough for politicians and justices to allow themselves to do anything they want with our money.

  • It really depends on where you live in Europe. Taxes in Scandinavia are pretty bad but Switzerland has lower tax rates and more economic freedom than the US. Countries like Germany and the Netherlands have the same marginal tax rates as the US. Innovation in the Netherlands, Sweden, and Germany is among the highest in the world. France and Italy on the other hand are deep in the hole. Hannan is over-simplifying Europe to sell his book. We are highly diverse sovereign nations.

  • @Krifko I think he was talking more about the EU as a whole. Like how nations with more prosperity end up having to pick up the nations that are poorer.

  • @xtremejohnny69 Yes. But you cannot speak of 'the' EU when you are talking about innovation, taxes, economic growth etc. Again, countries like the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden have higher or comparable living standards to the US. 'Coincidently', those same countries have liberalised their economies all through the 90's. I really like Hannan, but this sales pitch is too transparent. Why isn't he directing his book to us Europeans, who supposedly need this advice more than ever?

  • Marx was right about one thing, communism IS a historical inevitability. It will happen. In the same way, if you live a long life and nothing else kills you cancer will.

Why? because like Communism, cancer a natural result of our human make up. However, also like cancer, it can be cut out. The process will be painfull, people WILL suffer for it in the short term, but thier grandchildren will thank them.

  • @Felhaven Actually, no, communism isn't inevitable. Communism is a cancer, yes. The process is painful? Well, if you call ICBMs "painful" yes it's painful.

  • @EltonJThe I disagree. the innate selfishness in mankind will always result in people supporting governemnt programs taht benifit them, at least in the short term. Few people are willing or able to say, "Yes i am hungry. No i don't want your food stamps."

We must cut these programs out of our system. and the only way to do this is the hard and fast way. a process of gradual reduction in socialism would take generations and allow to much time to be reversed.

  • I was watching this thinking this fellow looked familiar. Then I saw the clip and said "I KNEW I saw him somewhere before!"

I remember that clip, that man deserves a medal for saying what he did!

  • Wow. This Hannan guy is a genius. Thanx for posting this LibertyPen.

  • If you believe government has any legitimacy at all, please watch this video:

    watch?v=BNIgztvyU2U

  • "Democratic scrutiny" - that's a good one! Too bad Mr Hannan hasn't figured out yet that democracy is nothing other than tyranny of the majority.

  • @furyofbongos I don't hear anyone in Switzerland complaining about tyranny.

  • "Public policy" - translated: "government initiating the use of force (coercion, violence)"

  • We ARE serfs, and we have been for a long time. If you pay taxes you are being forced at gun point to work for the government to the amount of your taxes. Not to mention that no-one owns their house -- you are forced at gun point by the government to pay them for the privilege of. pseudo-ownership.

  • If you sit home waiting your turn you deserve to have your gun taken from your cold dead hands.

The Founders didn’t wait for the Brits to knock down their doors. They gathered at the green and stood up like men and they killed government employees all the way back to Boston.

What will you do when it’s time to hunt NWO hacks, republicrats and commies(“Liberals” and ‘progressives’)?

Don't understand? Follow my links. Read the quotes page first. Then read my column ‘Prepping for Slavery’

  • We're not serfs? The Hell we're not.

Of course they don't argue from the ideas. They argue from bullshit then implement the ideas. Good grief. How much are they paying you people to varnish over this?????

What are they planning to do to those who refuse to participate in commie care?

Don't understand? Follow my links. Read the quotes page first.

  • Of course they don't argue for the USSR's economics. Mixed economies in europe aren't bad at all

  • @TheEthanwashere

Then move there, or stay there. You're not welcome in the land of the supposed to be free...

  • @waypasthadenough Do you really want freedom though I wonder?

I mean a lot of your ideas seem to revolve around killing other people you don't like. Are you sure it's not just your own version of tyranny you want?

  • Are they wearing the exact same thing?

  • This is such a good interview. To bad the Socialists in the US will just dismiss Daniel Hannan as a person that hates the poor and works for the corporations.

  • I want Stossel to interview Nigel Farage

  • The money is running out because because the tax base is gone. 80,000 manufacturing facilities have been oursourced, and they took their contribution to the economy with them, including the employed americans and their contribution to the economy. It is very evident when the greenlight was turned on, during the Clinton GATT Treaty. Transnationals were give permission to leave the country, and export back to us free of charge. Their stocks went wild, but millions of workers went jobless.

  • They didin't mention that the wealth of the ameican middleclass is now in the coffers of Wall Street vis Transnational Corporations. Not to mention that the media has had a complete blackout on the alternatives to laissez faire free trade. The battle of ideas have not won, because they have never been presented. The founders of our republic established protectionist capitalism as our economic system. That economic system required foreign businesses to pay, for using our mkts. for retail only.

  • For more Daniel Hannan or more on socialism check our playlists

  • Can we import Hannan?

  • Hannan's great. If you liked him, search Nigel Farage harangues EU President Herman van Rompuy.

  • @jimbo525SE Europe needs him. Maybe we can clone him.

  • @jimbo525SE Sorry, we need him :-)

  • @aussiedon8 In Australia?

  • @jimbo525SE We are on the same road as the US and Europe. There are no borders for the corupt banking system, military industrial complex, big agra, big pharma etc. We have a government out of control and out of touch.

In the USA you at least have Ron Paul as a figure head for freedom, liberty and sound money, we have no one speaking out on the real issues.

How about this can we have him when you are finished with him ;-)

  • @aussiedon8 haha Nice. Deal

  • @jimbo525SE There isn't enough Hannans for everyone!

  • @jimbo525SE No he's ours! :)

  • @jimbo525SE No, we want him from more than a year. Oh! And Nigel Farage would be nice to tag along

  • @jimbo525SE Sorry, us Brits need him! :)

  • So what if the population goes down?

  • @richardcadbury Less tax slaves to pay for the inflated debt burden, that's what, increasing the debt burden on those remaining.

  • @richardcadbury panpiper is right. not enough cash cows would be left to milk. that would be bad news for the old folks and other government dependents.

  • @richardcadbury If the population goes down, all you'll have left are a bunch of old retirees and no young workers. No tax base, just a bunch of oldsters on social security.

  • @megagagnon1 Of course. What an excellent argument in favour of total privatisation of pensions. :)

  • an official public board that works with the government by holding the fire to their feet for decisions and actions taken especially when concerning special interest groups/lobbyists. it has influence by the numbers of people, represented by the working class, for the average working European/Canadian/American. the government has to answer to it's concerns. people are elected by the people. too many voices are heard by higher classes, not enough from the working class

  • Hannan is exactly right, im European and people that doesn't work get about the same amount of cash each month than the people who work half or part time on low wage jobs. And remember, the people on welfare get all these benefits that working people provide them with so the system is very much flawed and doomed to fail sooner or later. Dont copy us America!

  • @TheCluelessMan So true man. See it too often here. People are cutting their hours to part time so they fall into a lower tax bracket. Once you make less your able to spend more time with family and at the same time your eligible for state health insurance, food stamps, rental assistance, free cell phone, help with power/gas, much lower phone bill.

It's not worth working 40+ hours a week and seeing more than half of your paycheck go towards insurance, taxes, child care, gas.

  • @TheCluelessMan

    Far too late, my friend.

  • @TheCluelessMan too late. we've been sliding that way for over 80 years now.

  • @TheCluelessMan Just because they earn the same amount of money as you doesnt mean their geared towards success. Money only ensures survival not happiness which you must go look for yourself.

  • @TheCluelessMan

Too late. Parasites here love welfare.

  • HAnnnaaaaah!!
