  • Thank you for sharing that. The waves never look as big on camera as they really are. What were the waves? I was 30 miles out this past May in 35 Kts sustained with 8 to 10 feet waves with the occasional 15 foot wave coming by. Is that similar to what you had? The feeling with a following sea is quite interesting and if the waves are not breaking too badly it's actually enjoyable at times. Thanks again for your post.

  • I love how he never loses his cup of coffee or rum...lol

  • @ciao614 Alex has his priorities. He would never let his rum spill.

One hand for the rum, one hand for the boat and your butt cheeks to hold on with! : ^ )

  • Nice video. I have started looking around at some new boats. Shannons are on my list as well as Cabo Ricos or a cape dory 36.

  • Sailboats have keels.... that counter-act the heeling..

  • Thats awesome! I dont know much about sailing, but I'm curious, how do you keep the boat from tipping over from the wind?

  • I wonder what the sails where set at was the jib up or just the main? it looked like the main was up at least. I take it the boat was on auto pilot?

  • The boat is a cutter rig but in these condition we just had a high cut Yankee hank on jib and a double reefed main with a preventer. The boat has dual head stays. Autopilot steering while i filmed..

  • nice video but I'm sure its much better in person thanks

  • I like the reference to Herb. All ways listen to Herb and heed his advice.

  • Herb is the MAN. It will be a sad day when he retires.

    Love your vids!

  • good film thanks

  • Shannons are my favorite boats. They are built like tanks.

  • got to love a kick ass auto pilot and crew with good morale. It makes a good trip, nice video, cheers.

  • It's kind of "light" your heavy weather!

  • that is heavy... im sure the camera doesn't do justice, but look at the heel on the starboard side

  • I agree to ZeDoColmeal. The heel on Starboat looks like 20 to 25 knots. Nevertheless, nice sailing trip.

  • I always can't help thinking about the outcome if there isn't a keel.

  • Beautiful boat.

It really is a shame how the camera shrinks the waves.

  • beautiful boat. I can't wait to be at that level of sailing! cruising back after a race . . . sounds great to me. it's good to see a vid like yours amidst all the extreme weather vids. keep it up.

  • Wow. Reef.

  • I LOVE IT!

I wanna be out there right now. I can't get enough of that kind of sailing. Of course I always get a little tired of everyone else getting sick, but I love it!

  • bunch o pussies!

  • How big are those waves? How big can a boat like that handle?

  • hello to all, who is driving

  • The devil by the looks of it!

  • Way to funny. "It's gonna be like this for two days."

    "You're kiddin"? "no"

    Silence.

  • Great video:) Where was this passage to and from?

  • Thanks, We are sailing from Bermuda to Charleston SC - we are approximately 400 miles out, almost halfway to Charleston.

  • That looks like fantastic fun.

  • We are double reefed with the preventer set.

  • This aint heavy weather sailing. This is just good fun :) I'm utterly amazed that nobody is on the helm in these conditions though. It looks as though you don't even have a preventer on the boom! Any malfunction or quick change in direction due to an autohelm problem here could lead to a very nasty jibe.

    Nice video though :)

  • Totally agreed !

  • Why do you care? Are you the safety police?

  • The boat's probably going 7-8 knots at the most. I imagine that Shannon's really come alive at 25 knots true.

Boy what a nice boat - what year is it? Great video!

  • boat must be going 14-18 knots? weird, to see the sails up, the autopilot steering. you guys definitely have this figured out!!!! would be nice to know what model boat this is.

  • it's a Shannon 38 - in the title of the vid.

  • those aren't breaking waves - they're cresting waves and are far less dangerous than a true breaking wave. nice boat and nice video footage.

  • Just noticed your comment-

I witnessed multiple breaking waves over several days we were in this storm. Our course through the water seemed to dampen the following seas at times, other times I got soaked- the camera was out when the weather was fair.

  • Great Shot - Great Boat! Cheers!
